You can apply for a super licence at any time. You just need enough points to satisfy it.

tbf i think his relationship with ferrari has been toxic for years and he left for many more reasons than simply thinking he had a better shot at the title with mclaren. and mercedes is going to win anyway so it's irrelevant

quote:

One of the biggest question marks concerns his superlicence, as the FIA has a process that has to be followed. The team has to apply via the driver’s national sporting authority, and Sauber has failed to do that.

Also one of the conditions is that the Contracts Recognition Board is happy with the legal side. It was revealed in court today that Monisha Kaltenborn wrote to the CRB last week to tell them that Van der Garde’s contract had been terminated in February.

Unusually this letter came after the Swiss arbitration court judgement which is at the centre of this week’s proceedings, and which said that the Dutchman should drive. In effect that contract now has to be re-activated at the CRB, and any delay at this critical stage helps Sauber to stop van der Garde driving.

From Adam Cooper. Sauber has to tell the CRB that he has a valid contract first. They didn't do this so any application wouldn't have succeeded and won't until they do. All they had to do was wait out the clock until it was too late for him to be given a license, and that seems to be what they did.

The fact they told the CRB that his had been terminated after the court decision means they're going to prison.

They then tried to tell the courts he couldn't race because he had no super license as a part of their defence, which was entirely their doing but something that could have been resolved up to 48 hours before the start of the event. They simply waited until he couldn't get one and the seat fitting this morning was merely to feign compliance with the court order.

Its not a car, its an elaborate time machine. They tried to use it again today, but the flex capacitor failed to engauge before it hit the wall. They are aiming for 1994 to bring back Senna and you have to admit Alonso's 1995 wasnt bad for the first try.

Can they be entered into the race if they're being towed by the repo trucks?

I wonder if Moesha was trying to trick VDG into racing without a license, and getting him banned for it. Solves her problems.

did anyone else catch magnussen talking to his engineer about the engine having poor power delivery? it sounded like the whole car was shuddering while he was accelerating. that was FP1 though so imagine he was describing a symptom of the problem they found. in testing everyone kept saying the honda was very driveable when it wasn't broken.

The consensus is that when working the engine is a decent engine and doesn't suffer from lumpy power delivery like Renault and Ferrari last year. The main problem is they're unlikely to have it working anytime soon.

that's what i've heard as well so i figured it was an issue and not the normal behavior of the engine. the NBC stream of FP1 had no commentary so you could really clearly hear the way magnussen was explaining the problem. it was awesome.

With the Sauber thing, F1 drivers get their contracts terminated all the time yet lawsuits never happen from them. What makes the VdG situation different from every other contract termination?

They've stolen money from him, then didn't perform their side of the contract. He paid millions for a race seat. They took the millions, then didn't give him a race seat. It's not the same as firing the driver in the normal course of business.

The Clio Cup and Megane RS are pretty drat good, theres always a tonne of clio cups at trackdays here, although they hosed up the current version by giving it a lovely gearbox. The current Megane RS is pretty well liked though.

So what makes this case different than McLaren taking Sergio Perez' Carlos Slim money and then telling him to gently caress off a year later. Specific contract details for VdG and not Perez?
