tsa posted:This almost certainly never happened, detecting bias takes a lot longer than you suggest. Hopefully the OP sticks to pool table stories because anything about casinos is going to be really stupid and wrong. It happened in the 19th century, a quick Google search tells me, though other successful roulette teams have persisted through the early 2000's. There are possibly still successful teams today that just aren't well publicised.

Farking Bastage posted:I saw where you mentioned the subject of bringing your cue. When using house sticks, I always try so hard to find one that doesn't have a hosed up slip on tip, but sometimes that's all that's there. Is the adversion to those a mental thing I just need to get over? If I can't find a cue with its original diameter tip, I'll usually go elsewhere. House sticks are awful especially in dive bars, but after shooting with them so many times in my life I have nice feel for playing with lovely sticks. I can beat most people with a golf club or broom stick I just can't get good english on the ball so it changes my style of play. It's part mental and part skill. For the mental part for me it's all ego I actually think I am better than anyone in the room so the stick means nothing. Since I am also a high level pool player the skill takes over and I can make minor adjustments based on the stick. As far as Roulette goes I never said anything about being this amazing roulette player. I play it for fun and don't ever expect to win sure I am up this year but I know that won't last. Poker and pool is where I make my money. I think what shooting blanks is referring to is that back in the early days of roulette there were such things as biased wheels that teams would exploit. They eventually figured out the problem and replaced the wheels that were biased but it's still going on and if a player can find an edge he will use it. I know many profitable casino players I hang out with a lot of them and sometimes I follow their bets if I am around.

From what I recall they don't just switch roulette wheels but they are made up of a number of modular parts that are randomly sorted between all the tables.
