TNG oscillated randomly between entertainingly awkward/corny/outright bad and good but the important thing is it was always entertaining

I think DS9 was probably the better show though

TNG is a pretty chill show

Let's discuss this in the 90s SciFi Conference Room before we make any snap decisions here guys

Best geordi moment is when enterprise designer was visiting ship and found his holo date rape sim starring her.

I also like when you find out Barclay has like ~my waifu~ versions of all of the female cast members in the holodeck in that one episode lol

also he has programmed in a wimpy version of Riker so he can beat up on him in virtual reality and feel superior

he is derelict in his duties on the ship for a while because he's spending so much time in there

Barclay is unquestionably the ultimate goon on the show

I think that drat finale colored a lot of people's opinions of the show more negatively than is fair; it's a pretty good show

but to be fair, it was a really lovely finale

1 and 2 are v questionable unless you enjoy watching bad and awkward scifi

there are sprinklings of it further on but the overall quality really does noticeably improve after S2

What did they do different after S2 in terms of writing/production, anything?

So, they made the mistake of releasing a middling show, then a terrible show, and from what I can tell the last TNG movies were also real bad

Goddamn you star trek we want to love you, you need to clean yourself up and get off the stuff (the stuff here being terrible TV shows and movies)

The original series episodes where they went to some random planet and some dumbass had dropped a book fifty years before causing them to base their whole culture on one drat thing were hilarious.

"Insert Cultural Touchstone Here" Planets were great

I'm pretty sure they threw together some of those episodes based on what costumes/foam fake boulders they had access to the week they were shooting

The obvious stunt double and horrendous choreography of this fight also was pretty lol.

the show was always amusing to me even when it was terrible, because it was either trying to do something that is inherently a bad idea or reaching for something that is a good concept that it just couldn't quite execute properly

it's almost never the "boring" kind of bad

Don't know if I'm prepared to say it's "good" or whatever, but it's a really memorable episode at least.

All of the little self-encapsulated "I had this idea for a sci-fi story while I was high in college" episodes are at the very least interesting.

I'm trying really hard to get into TNG, but it's so bad. Riker and The Captain definitely both give off cool vibes, but the show is just terrible. Everyone says it gets better, but I've watched like 11 hours of it and I've hated every moment. I'm about to write star trek off like dr. who as a show for loving buzz kill spergs that give high-functioning autism a bad name. I also think they're too nice to the ferengis. I would like to see a 5 minute montage of Data and Geordi with axes just chopping up ferengis, woman and children included, with Drowning Pool's "Bodies" playing.

yeah if you aren't a fan of laughing at corny bad scifi then just like watch the good episodes from S1+2 and skip the rest

some people just don't dig it and that's fine, though

the Ferengi were supposed to be the major "villain race" in the show at first but they thought they were too loving goofy to fill that role so they used Romulans N' Cardassians in that role instead in later episodes (like S3 or 4 onwards?)

there are a few episodes where ferengi get owned later as well don't worry
