I own the Steam version, but that doesn't play on Mac, so I downloaded the version on Archive.org to play in Boxer. I definitely don't mean to be insensitive to any cultures, but I stand by my reading. I don't think there's anything "severely hosed up" about calling attention to it. VocalizePlayerDeath is acting like we personally tainted the symbol. If we were talking about an Asian developed game, I would read it differently. Looking into it further, there are quotes from the developers that confirm it was a reference to Wolfenstein. That's still a really thick-skulled move. Even the biggest id fan in the world is going to see a swastika before they see Wolfenstein goofs, because one is more loaded and fraught than the other. I was just about to post about that. The tournament is running up until we release episode 100. To give details about the seeding, I took every game we've covered and ordered them by release date. I figured that was more fair than either hand designing something (and thus introducing bias) or going completely random (and possibly having matchups that make even less sense than the ones we have now). Just have faith that the best tunes will win. (Interesting fact-bit: Taking all of the release dates of games we've covered for the show, I've determined that the mean, median, and mode are all 1998. That's the WOFF! power year.) In addition to that, Episode 98 just game out today. It's about Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon. Listen to us talk about how amazing the game is, and slam on Rafaello. http://duckfeed.tv/woff/98 Up next is Amnesia: The Dark Descent. We're still working on the announcement for Episode 100, but we're ready to announce the game that comes after it: Katamari Damacy.

I'm as willing as anyone to point out when someone is "glorious Nippon"-ing, but this didn't trip any wires for me. It seemed reasonable, even if it's a little on the convenient side. I'm never 100% certain, but all of the points that arose during the episode felt workable.

Hey everyone, we've done 100 episodes of Watch Out for Fireballs! This special episode is all about Super Metroid, and I hope you enjoy it. http://duckfeed.tv/woff/100 Up next is Katamari Damacy, followed by a split EP episode about Harvest Moon and Sim City (SNES). After that, we've got Demon's Crest. Some fun facts about WOFF!, while we're in the celebratin' mood: * In 100 episodes we've covered 89 games. * We've only ever missed a single week, and that was due to a car accident. * We've released 254 hours, 40 minutes, and 34 seconds of content, which is over 10 days if you listen to them back to back. * We've covered more platformer games than any other genre.

I try to keep the Abject Suffering list groomed. I remove games we've already played, I remove duplicate entries (while still keeping track of who suggested what). Right now the list stands at 614 games, which is enough to do the show for 12 years if the faucet turned off right now. As we keep saying, though, games are chosen at random... but suggesting a game multiple times doesn't make it more likely to pop up.

I'd rather keep it private for a couple of reasons: 1. It stops being useful if people see it as a way of publicly trolling or communicating. 2. I don't want someone to see that a game they want to suggest is already on the list, and then not suggest it. If they have some good comments to add, those will come along with multiple suggestions. The Suggest a Game stuff is weird. The Abject Suffering form is pretty legit and chill. People don't gently caress around. But the WOFF! form occasionally gets people suggesting we play "my dick". And right now, someone is filling it with titles of the grossest erotic visual novels that Japan has to offer (like "Ultimate Boob Wars" and "Harem Party"). It's funny, but annoying because I have to spend real time administering that list.

Jordan7hm posted:The newest Level was good (as always). The shirt bit early on got weird. You backed off the point Kole, but I'm with you. Clothes like that are tacky. It's not about what's on the shirt either - if it were a sports team logo or something, it would be just as tacky. I'm feeling contrite about overstating my case on that one. My personal taste doesn't apply to everyone, and I made it sound like I thought it ought to. Being that I sell shirts with my show logos on them, it's clear that I don't think "Shirt of a Thing" is a bad thing. I took my feelings about the gross way places like ThinkGeek commoditize nostalgia and projected it onto the people who have genuine good will towards the things they buy merch for.

That's why I feel bad. Listening to it later, and talking with people afterward, I realized that how I spoke about it on the show isn't exactly how I feel.

The new Watch Out for Fireballs! about Harvest Moon and SimCity just dropped. http://duckfeed.tv/woff/102 Up next is Demon's Crest, followed by L.A. Noire, then Spider-Man 2 (the PS2/GameCube/Xbox one). And after that, we're doing something different: Summer Reading! We opened up a poll to Patreon backers to help us determine which visual novel we're going to play: 999: Nine Hours Nine Persons Nine Doors, Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective, Hotel Dusk: Room 215, or Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. (It's been brought to our attention that these aren't visual novels in the purest sense, but it's a functional definition that we're using... and it's how these games are described in the west, so...)

My problem with well-known / regarded visual novels is that I don't know how to easily get ahold of legal, translated copies of them that will run conveniently on modern hardware (much less portable hardware). Looking at Fate/Stay, it feels like there are so many alternate/derivative titles that I wouldn't know which to go for. I really want to play Ever17, but the sole English PC version costs a hojillion dollars and I'm not sure it would run on any computer I own. I also want to play Steins;Gate, but the North American Vita version doesn't even have a release date. I like the four poll games (and their sequels, where applicable) because you can just buy solid versions of them at retail and play them on portable systems. Same goes for the Danganronpa games.
