Sensuki has stated he is against any sort of group looting system, yet in his IWD videos on youtube he has got a plethora of mods that eliminate all kinds of busywork bullshit. He has identify all items mods and a mod that allows him to exchange magic items for different ones incase he didn't get the right rolls. None of it makes sense. How can you simultaneously think identifying items is a huge chore but individually looting 10 lizardmen isn't? The guy obviously has a huge huge passion for infinity engine games, but it grates people when you consistently state an opinion as THE TRUTH, so many people do it and its infuriating.

EA and Ubisoft are on my don't buy list until they remove mandatory 3rd party programs (Uplay and Origin) If I buy it on Steam that should be the only step I should need for playing the game no secondary sign in needed. Obsidian are great guys and ok Devs but they really need to step up to the plate and start showing fans they appreciate them more. Because they really aren't - yes their games are often outstanding but you only get free passes for so long before people stop caring about you.

Happened to Peter Molyneux really easily and American Mcgee and countless other devs - the truth is if people like me and the others expressing dismay at treatment didn't care we'd just slink away and stop buying their products. The fact we're here telling Obsidian they're doing it wrong (treatment of backers) shows they still matter to us, and if we matter to them they'll listen.

I re-downloaded Pillars of Eternity in anticipation of the upcoming expansion and I was wondering if it has been clarified how the expansion will work? I am keen to try out "Expert Mode" and "Path of the Damned", having previously completed the game on Normal but I am unsure as to start it yet. Given my lack of skill I expect it will take me forever to do it, so should I start now and play-through the expansion with that game? Or will the expansion be only for new games? If I somehow breeze through and finish, will the expansion pick up and continue?

For the Hard PotD game I made a Amaua Wizard, having totally ditched Aloth in the main game, is there anything I desperately should know about Wizards? I found the Normal play-through to be really difficult up to about 1/2 way through and then it was comically easy, is it a similar situation for higher levels?

How on earth do you get anywhere in "Path of the Damned" mode? I just picked up Durance, Eder, Aloth and two mercenaries (Barbarian and Rogue), my main character is a Cipher with a hunting bow. Just south of where the Magran statue is there are some boars. I must have tried 10 or so times to beat these drat pigs and I got rinsed every single try. I am all for a challenge but this is just over the top, when I completed my first game it was on hard mode and I had no trouble at all in any fight, save for the finale of the Endless Paths.

Heres a question I haven't seen asked before. I am going to start my 2nd playthrough with all the White March expansion enabled and I was wondering if the Developer Commentary is quite intrusive and full of spoilers? I don't know what I am doing wrong, but the difficulty in my Hard playthrough of the game is all over the place. It seems that fights are either a total steamroll or complete party wipe with barely anything in the middle. For example, in the Ondras Gift area the rain blights and adra golems in the shallows are simple, but the shades and phantoms in the lighthouse are completely impossible. I tried enchanting all my weapons with spirit slaying and having fire spell scrolls on Durance and my wizard to no avail. The White March area was challenging to defeat the ogres, but not impossible (i.e what I think the correct difficulty should be) but then in every area past that its a complete party wipe no matter what. Is it just me being bad? On normal difficulty I just beat every fight in the base game first time with no challenge at all.

The lighthouse is a deliberately challenging optional area, so don't feel bad about getting hosed up in there. I suspect you're not using the combat mechanics to their fullest though, TWM expects you to use defensive and offensive buffs intelligently, such as Prayer against _____ vs debuffers and the holy duo of Devotions of the Faithful and Crowns of the Faithful in order to become unstoppable. You've also got to pay closer attention to positioning and target prioritisation (especially in Galvino's workshop and Durgan's Battery). In general, TWM was a direct response to the simplistic tank & spank hallway fights of the base game, so you're going to have to raise your's accordingly.

Thanks for the advice, I was getting frustrated with it so I went for a walk and gave it another go when I got back and made it to the top of the lighthouse. What proved really helpful was Kana's triage ability which healed my wizard enough such that she wasn't killed during the fight (instant end game). Solving the actual Banshee fight peacefully was also a welcome relief after the nightmare that was the lower floors.

Get Bulwark Against Elements potions and find a way to deal with Blind (which for me personally means Bring A Priest).

Again this is great advice, these potions really turned it all around for me, I did not realise the phantoms did cold damage. I actually used these guys previously against Cail the Silent and the drakes at the hot springs so god knows why I didn't remember to break them out here. I had like 10 made up already.

Here is a question though, when picking weapons for your characters do you bother to go with what they are specialised in? For instance, Meneha has "knight proficiency" and I currently have her with a dock off morningstar with corrode enchant on it and wilder slaying. I would like to use a cutlass I found and try to dual wield spec her. Is it worth picking up another talent in the respective proficiency or is the accuracy bonus not worth it in the long run. If it isn't worth it, doesn't that imply the weapon proficiency talents are a trap and not worth investing in?

I have Pagellina trained defensively in my normal game (6 man, Hard) and she is pretty much unkillable. Even those rear end in a top hat fire constructs in Galvino's labratory don't touch her while insta-killing all my other guys. On that note, I think Galvino's basement is one of the crappiest areas in the White March I have explored thus far. Fights with a bunch of self healing, high DR enemies with traps all over the floor doesn't make for a fun experience. It seems to just be a big gently caress you to anyone trying to play without much resting.

Those Soulbound weapons kick all kinds of rear end. My Barbarian is a terror with the Estoc which procs summons/twin stones. Heart of Fury + that = constant proccing. Sagani has also been pretty ridiculous with the bow that procs returning storm. I've been curb stomping the original game since coming back from WM1. In retrospect for a future playthrough I'd probably finish most/all of Endless Paths and finish Chapter 2 before going to WM1. Then do level scaling for it and level scaling on the way back.

It's been kinda fun curb stomping enemies even on POTD though. Once I finish Endless Paths I've got a bone to pick with that Dragon in WM1.

This is my situation right now, except I put the hallowed redeemer on Meneha. Her carnage / heart of fury skills basically obliterated the dwarven golems at the end of part one. Sagani with the stormcaller is similarly insane. I still think that fighting spirits/ghosts is bullshit in this game, but everything else is well thought out and the power progression of your characters is really satisfying. Going back to Longwatch falls after the adventure in Durgans Battery to wreck havok on those not-murlocks was possibly one of the most satisfying moments in gaming I have had in recent years. Going back to the Dyrwood and exploding everything is similarly amazing.

One thing I have noticed above all is that the priest is almost an essential pick for the team. The utility Durance brings along is so great I just can't bench him, not that I ever want to as he is a great character. Another thing that doesn't quite mesh well for me is the way the characters in your party just straight up dismiss Durance or outright mock him. Obviously he is within the context of the world a sexist, racist shitheel and is should be.. well reviled. But Eder and Meneha just take the piss out of him. His character is so extreme I feel like the characters don't react plausibly to him, which really should be outright hatred. I mean the guy talks about skinning Orlans and burning people alive, he's a psychopath. I wouldn't be ripping him for sure.

mitochondritom

I suppose I can see that the other members of the party might get that impression of him, however I (well my characters) interactions with him that are presumably taken away from the party mark him as a dangerous individual. Perhaps some boldness ala Baldurs Gate with stronger conflicts and outright party conflicts where Durance straight up kills Eder for being a filthy Eothosian would put players off too much. I'll never forget when Zar and Montaron just decided to outright kill Jaheira for their difference in philosophy and Korgan outright hated Aeire (Didnt we all?). The characters are all really good in Pillars, but their interactions between each other are almost too twee for my tastes. Its a problem that was present in Baldurs Gate 2 also (Sarevok with acne, ugh!).

If I'm not mistaken the lack of party members arguing like crazy and wanting to kill each other was a deliberate choice by Obsidian because they were tired of the juvenile arguments party members got into in other games. Their choice in this one was basically yeah some of these party members don't like each other a whole lot but they're still going to fall in line and not go too nuts about it.

I guess its only with Durance, he is the odd one out. In all my game time so far none of the other party members have disliked each other. Perhaps they were tired of juvenile arguments, but conflict within the party that requires mediation by the player could have been a way to increase the depth and characterisation of the NPCS. Tricky to do though I imagine. There is still plenty of juvenile banter though (constant mentions of Durance's other staff...) and Biowarian flirting between Meneha and Pagellina.

So I just completed the final Swamp / Bog encounter with Llengrath and her dragons. It was on hard difficulty and I was expecting a bit of a challenge, but with all my maxed out guys and gear it was a bit of a rollover. The only achievements left are the tough ones now, like solo / pacifist and the "Josh Sawyer face" ones. I don't think I have the patience to get any of them really, I contemplated a solo run on easy where I try to pick up some of them but decided to try out Serpent in the Staglands and then Shadowrun Hong Kong. Its been such an amazing few years for CRPGS, Divinity 2 is on the horizon and I still need to get through the first one :stare:.

When I was looking up the achievement player stats I was amazed that only ~3 % of people have actually completed the White March and ~ 1 % part 2. How do developers feel putting all that effort making content for a tiny proportion of people? I mean it is presumably financially worth it (otherwise why do it?). I think you must be a priest of Eothas / Magran etc to get any deity worshipping specific dialogue, reading a text about Eothosian practises is not enough to satisfy the dialogue gods. I think the feeling that nothing is resolved is compounded by the irreverence that the characters seem to treat their own lives with. Very shortly after solving the issues that have plagued Maneha's entire life she is back to making quirky remarks about Pagellina etc like nothing has happened. Then shes offering to kill herself in a huge about face after deciding her life is worth it. Similarly with Eder, you solve his quest and then hes back to cracking wise. There is a sort of flippancy in some NPCs that really doesn't mesh well with the thematically dour nature of most of their stories.

I take all of your points and accept you are all right. But in the Dragon Age games the characters do similar things though (Alastair being the prime example). It is more muted in Pillars and its not as big a deal as I am making out, I really like all the NPCs, even Meneha. That might be because she is a total powerhouse though. My favourite NPC is Pagellina because she is no nonsense and she realistically babbles in some incoherent foreign language when she is pissed off, which is doubly hilarious because my main character was a Valian aristocrat and so she should theoretically understand her.
