I forgot to write some more about watching indie lucha online. Maybe I'll write something up this weekend and turn it into a post on my site.

In the mean time, here's 7 matches I liked: 3 from CMLL so far in January and then 4 from indies in December.

Keyra vs Lacey Lane – The Crash – 12/03/2017 – FUN
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_p6dp7l5C0
I watched this one after the Ludark match below, and I think it was a bit better. Lacey and Keyra had been wrestling each other in team matches for the entire November tour with The Crash and this was finally their singles meeting. They worked well together. The sequence on the outside was interesting, both had some nice spots, and the crowd was into it.

Keyra vs Ludark Shaitan – Generación XXI – 12/18/2017 – FUN
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ukas3IH4ddk
Nothing out of this world, but a nice example of what you get from Keyra when you let her go 10 minutes instead of 6. Keyra tries to wrestle, but Ludark only wants to punish. Couple of your standard Keyra match spots where she or her opponent take what looks like a way-too-hard kick or knee. Special surprise at the end as well.

Demus vs Wotan (beard vs hair) – Generación XXI – 12/18/2017 – FUN
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GM4ffJZJI3Q
Wild, nasty brawl. The Demus Special. Wotan bleeds an incredible amount. The booking is weird, but the violence outweighs it. And when was the last time you saw someone bet their beard on a match?

Daga vs Caifán – Lucha Memes – 12/25/2017 – GOOD
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmYIMkJW6Wo
Between the time this happened and the time this got posted (one week), Caifán announced his retirement on Facebook (on Dia de los Inocentes of all days) and apparently actually retired. Just on the strenght of this Daga match and the Mr. Niebla one that got posted last week, I’m glad that we got to see his work in the ring, not to mention all the other ones through his 26 years. In this match, Daga knows he’ll have to go hard to hang with the veteran, and some of the kicks he delivers are almost too hard. You get the excellent trademark of Coliseo Coacalco: the battle spilling into the fans’ laps. When Caifán gets the upper hand, you can see he’s reveling in it.

Negro Casas vs Sam Adonis (hair vs hair) – CMLL – 01/01/2018 – EPIC
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcnzEeCEZc0&t=1h55m21s
Sam Adonis goes after a second CMLL legend’s hair and turns in his top performance yet. As was the case in the Mexico vs Trump match-up with Blue Panther, the crowd is nuclear and rightfully so. Negro is an all-timer and he gets the best possible out of Sam. Must see. Special mention to Sam’s trunks, Sam’s “seconds,” and Sam’s 450. And every big move that Negro Casas takes. By the way, Negro’s rib was broken the entire third fall.

Fiero, Flyer, Magia Blanca vs El Coyote, Templario, Yago – CMLL – 01/06/2018 – GREAT
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hx5NRXIRd04#t=108s
The other 51 weeks out of the year it’s almost always safe to skip the first and usually second matches on a CMLL Friday show. 1/6 was a special Saturday show for Three Kings’ Day and I guess they told the prelim guys they could do whatever they wanted. So they went wild, and it turned out great. Match is only about 10 minutes long and it’s worth your time. Plus you get to see Yago’s entrance. Afterwards they do a ceremony to present Fiero with the legacy gimmick of “El Audaz” and promise more opportunities for young wrestlers in 2018. I look forward to the Audaz/Templario rivalry continuing for the foreseeable future.

Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Hechicero – CMLL – 01/15/2018 – GREAT
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkENj941cWM&t=01h15m31s
A completely entertaining wrestling match with a ten minute time limit. You see the personalities of the guys and you get some really cool moves. Being free of the three fall structure helps the match. The main drawback of this kind of excellent performance in the middle of the usually lackluster Monday show is that you know that CMLL has the kind of roster that can put something this good on every show and yet this will just end up being “one of the only really good Puebla matches of the year.”

Fantasticamania - Nagoya
NJPW/CMLL - 2018-01-12
File's on RealHero Archive, approximate timestamps for matches included below.

1) Drone vs Disturbio - 0:03 - OK
2) Fuego & Star Jr. vs Okumura & Puma - 0:14 - OK
3) Ángel de Oro, Jushin Liger, Ryusuke Taguchi, Tiger Mask vs Cuatrero, Rocky Romero, SHO, YOH - 0:30 - OK
4) Niebla Roja, Soberano Jr., Volador Jr. vs Bárbaro Cavernario, Gran Guerrero, Sansón - 0:49 - FUN
5) Dragón Lee, Hirai Kawato, Kushida, Satoshi Kojima vs Bushi, Hiromu Takahashi, Rush, Tetsuya Naito - 1:07 - FUN
6) Atlantis, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Mistico vs Gedo, Kazuchika Okada, Último Guerrero - 1:31 - FUN

Best match was the fourth, though the Ingobernables match had a good atmosphere. No particular matches really worth going out of your way to see, this was the first show of the tour. Main event wasn't that good of a match, though Mistico and Ultimo Guerrero were very good. Tanahashi has no reason on Earth to be wrestling any matches on this tour.

Notables:
- I laughed out loud repeatedly at Okada being unable to correctly raise the roof.
- Puma does an appeal to the crowd and then the Casita but it gets no reaction. Probably because nobody in Nagoya at a New Japan show gets his connection to Negro Casas.
- They do very weird entrance orders that cause the Mexican announce to start to call match 3 as a trios match after all the New Japan guys are in the ring before the ref tells him to wait because Cuatrero and Angel de Oro are getting their own separate ring entrances.
- There's like two minutes of Dragon Lee/Kamaitachi that is as beautiful and perfect as it always is.
- Soberano Jr. continues to be one of the best in the world (and he's still only 24 years old).

Fantasticamania 2018 - Korakuen Hall Night One
NJPW/CMLL - 2018-01-19
NJPW World

1) Fuego vs Okumura - 0:10 - BAD
2) Dragón Lee, Hirai Kawato, Satoshi Kojima, Star Jr. vs Bushi, Hiromu Takahashi, Rush, Tetsuya Naito - 0:21 - FUN
3) Atlantis, Drone, Mistico, Volador Jr. vs Bárbaro Cavernario, Disturbio, Puma, Último Guerrero - 0:48 - FUN
4) Ángel de Oro © vs Cuatrero [CMLL MIDDLE] - 1:25 - GOOD
5) Soberano Jr. © vs Sansón [MEX WELTER] - 1:42 - GREAT
6) Niebla Roja © vs Gran Guerrero [CMLL LH] - 2:00 - GREAT

I liked match 5 slightly more than 6, but they were both really good. Soberano is one of my favorite wrestlers and Sansón's charisma is undeniable. Both Dinamitas did a good job in singles competition. The last three matches are definitely worth your time.

Notables:
- I have no loving time in 2018 for a "valet kiss" moment, much less one that ends with Okumura slapping Mima. Give me a break.
- Rush's wife and son are seen at the end as he walks out after the match, his son has on a "Muñoz Family Hybrid Mask" incorporating Pierroth, Rush, Mistico, and Dragon Lee.
- Atlantis can barely go since he just got off a long injury layoff and he's so old. Glad they took this into account when booking the card.
- Crowd was good. Really bummed that they have to mute all the music because it means they mute all the intros by the Mexican announcer.

Fantasticamania 2018 - Korakuen Hall Night Two
NJPW/CMLL - 2018-01-21
NJPW World

1) Drone & Star Jr. vs Disturbio & Puma - 0:14 - SKIPPABLE
2) Fuego, Ryusuke Taguchi, Soberano Jr. vs Okumura, SHO, YOH - 0:29 - FUN
3) Atlantis, Hirai Kawato, Kushida, Satoshi Kojima vs Bushi, Hiromu Takahashi, Rush, Tetsuya Naito - 0:48 - FUN
4) Ángel de Oro & Niebla Roja vs Gran Guerrero & Último Guerrero [CMLL Hermanos, semifinal] - 1:21 - GOOD
5) Dragón Lee & Mistico vs Cuatrero & Sansón [CMLL Hermanos, semifinal] - 1:43 - OK
6) Volador Jr. © vs Bárbaro Cavernario [NWA WELTER] - 1:59 - EXCELLENT

Main event was outstanding, with both guys getting their moves in and the crowd and commentary heightening the drama.

Notables:
- Drone and Disturbio had a real bad night here, and this is not the type of show you want to have a bad night.
- Taguchi was on fire here. Wasn't a fan of the "face in Mima's rear end" spot but it's more forgivable in a comedy bit.
- Soberano continues to shine.
- Thanking the heavens that Atlantis has been talked out of doing a dive.
- Cuatrero and Sansón did not have it as a team tonight. Mistico wasn't great either, Dragón Lee was the glue in that match. Disappointing first night to the Brothers Tournament.
- The single track generic music overdub is worse than silence.

6) Satoshi Kojima vs Rush - 1:30 - GREAT
7) Gran Guerrero & Último Guerrero vs Dragón Lee & Mistico [CMLL Hermanos, final] - 1:48 - GREAT

I probably over-rated the Rush match due to my bias towards Rush matches and the fact that they let him do one in Korakuen Hall, but I stand by my rating for that one.

Notables:
- Fuego and Taguchi need to be a permanent team. The crowd shots made it appear as if they have made a lot of money selling paper mummy tomb masks emblazoned with a 69. Good for Ryusuke.
- Cuatrero and Sansón had a better night tonight. My hypothesis is that they wore underwear tights last night and the underwear tights are cursed.
- Good luck to Kawato in Mexico. I hope he gets to wrestle Police Man and Kraneo.
- Maybe they will let Soberano stay in Japan. But Rush should be in the G1 and he should win it.
- Rush's young son got in the ring with his uncles Mistico and Dragon Lee at the end. I made a gif of it below.

AAA had a press conference today to announce:

- All their shows will be streamed live on Twitch in 2018 (so all TVs starting with tomorrow night and next week, and including Triplemania)
- They're running 31 shows this year (up from 28 last year)
- At some point the Twitch stream will start showing old videos when a live event is not on
- Triplemania's two big matches are Lady Shani vs. Faby Apache mask vs. hair and "Poker de Ases" a four-way apuestas cage match with Psycho Clown, the winner of the Fantasma/Texano match at Rey de Reyes, and two people to be named later. ChampJulius immediately (and probably correctly) joked that all the hype and hubbub and the end result will be that Rey Escorpion gets shaved

CMLL Friday has block A of the annual Parejas Increibles tournament where all the teams are a tecnico and a rudo.
https://twitter.com/Arena_MX/status/957298573867036674
That's a one-night elimination tournament, so 7 matches way to short to realistically be good in addition to 3 other regular matches that will also be rushed. Also has the debut of Hirai Kawato from New Japan. Marco tweeted he's not actually on the show.
Next Friday is block B, and the finals with the winners of the two blocks will be on 2/16 in the main event.

Last year's finals was chosen as the 2017 lucha match of the year in the 2017 luchablog tapatia awards, which just got posted today:
2017: 02-27 Barbaro Cavernario & Volador Jr. vs Ultimo Guerrero & El Valiente

CMLL Tuesday 2/6 has a really solid card too:

Lady Shani © vs Faby Apache [Reina De Reinas] – AAA – 12/16/2017 – GOOD
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRRMqGMOI-k
One of the last matches AAA taped in 2017 becomes one of the first aired in 2018, and it’s a stiff war. They really just beat the crap out of each other. The finish does what it should to make the Guerra de Titanes booking make sense. It will be even better if they can do this again on that show, but a little longer.

Monsther Clown & Murder Clown © vs Dark Cuervo & Dark Scoria vs Histeria & Psicosis [AAA TAG] – AAA – 12/16/2017 – FUN
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qbwUmEPF_4
Two AAA recommendations, in the same post, from the same show. The pace on this one is good, and the triangle format buffs the strengths and hides the weaknesses of the teams. The booking is the booking, fine, it’s AAA. I enjoyed the match and I enjoy the big boy Murder Clown going up top.

Rey Fénix vs Hijo de LA Park – Generación XXI – 01/06/2018 – GOOD
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BR-UaRg7gk
Fénix is Fénix here, one of the best in the world. LA Park’s son inherited one of the best gimmicks ever in wrestling, but so far he hasn’t really risen above the level of “indie junior luchador.” Still, this is one of his best matches to date and some of the moves are really brutal. Plus there’s a bicycle. Fair warning if you watch that full match link, turn your volume down low because the commentary is very, very bad. After the match, there’s some extracurricular brawling that leads me to believe this feud must continue. I wouldn’t mind that.

Hechicero vs Kráneo – CMLL – 01/19/2018 – GREAT
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3fJZUCkG8s&t=01h14m05s
I thought the best possible wrestling match was agile wrestlers doing flips and slams. This match proved that it’s actually a wizard battling an extremely large wrestler and an extremely small wrestler at the same time.

Diamante Azul, Stuka Jr., Titán vs Hechicero, Johnny Idol, Sam Adonis – CMLL – 01/22/2018 – GOOD
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4ruebFHJN0&t=1h31m36s
This is the top tier of trios matches you’re going to get in Arena Puebla. Sam and Johnny are doing their thing and Hechicero is forced to put up with it to some interesting results. Sam’s bits work better on stream in the more intimate Puebla venue. Above average amount of team-up moves on both sides, and then the satisfying ending you expect from the post-bald Sam Adonis match.

Mephisto © vs Titán [CMLL WELTER] – CMLL – 01/23/2018 – EPIC
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDpiSiCfpdY&t=5895s
A title match in Arena Mexico on a Tuesday that was good enough to rival Volador/Cavernario’s battle in Japan. Agility versus punishment is the story here. Titán is giving it his all and the crowd is into it. They have a very long third fall, which is the key to the best title matches in CMLL. I bought into the near falls at the end, and the actual finish was cool.

Ludark Shaitan vs Felina Metálica – FILLM – 01/20/2018 – GOOD
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hu3ls8HCsEQ
I don’t know if Felina insulted Ludark or crossed her in some way or what, but Ludark dishes out traditional Ludark punishment big time. This video is fascinating because there are two Go Pros on the turnbuckles along with 1-2 floor cams and the footage seems to be professionally edited. There’s one spot leading to a double clothesline that is so great. This is super libre, bordering on deathmatch, which I don’t watch too much of, but I liked it for the wrestling, the arena, and the production.

Lady Shani © vs Faby Apache [Reina De Reinas] – AAA – 01/26/2018 – GOOD
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/222760866?t=00h44m20s
The build up’s no-decision leads to an even more brutal and decisive meeting at the first big show of the year. Shani is still a little sloppy and Faby isn’t all the way rudo yet, but the finishing sequence delivers on violence.

Averno, Chessman, Súper Fly © vs Aerostar, Drago, Raptor vs Angelikal, Bengala, Máscara de Bronce vs Carta Brava Jr., Mocho Cota Jr., Tito Santana [AAA TRIOS] – AAA – 01/26/2018 – GREAT
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/222760866?t=01h25m48s
A match in one of the most classic lucha formats: put a ton of guys out there so they can do all their coolest moves. And wow do they ever. The “story” actually breaks down into the tecnicos teams doing the wildest flips possible while the rudo teams do the most mask ripping possible. Aerostar doesn’t climb the lighting rig in this one but don’t let that stop you from seeing the insane thing he does do.

Psycho Clown vs Rey Escorpión [bull terrier] – AAA – 01/26/2018 – GREAT
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/222760866?t=01h53m04s
This ended up being my favorite match on Guerra de Titanes. A top quality brawl with added humor constructed around how stupid bull terrier/chain/strap matches are with their “touch the corners” rules. The part where Rey Escorpión finally gets the chain on made me laugh harder than anything in wrestling in a long time. And then they bleed a lot all over the place. The finish is a AAA finish, but what can you do.

Angelikal, Máscara de Bronce, Hijo Del Vikingo, Lanzelot vs Australian Suicide, Averno, Chessman, Súper Fly – AAA – 02/02/2018 – GOOD
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/225147227?t=01h12m52s
Argenis came out first to tell the crowd he was injured. Part of this injury announcement was him holding off the four rudos by swinging a large sword around. AAA is good. Máscara de Bronce (age 19, born in 1998) took his spot on the team and showed why he is a future superstar of lucha libre. All of the tecnicos were extremely good in this match. The rudos were extremely rowdy. The crowd came alive and everything in the match made sense. I hope that every time I spend my whole evening watching a AAA TV taping on Twitch, I get a match at least this good.

La Nueva Generación Dinamita (Cuatrero, Forastero, Sansón) © vs Los Kamikazes del Aire (Alas de Acero, Aramis, Iron Kid) [MEX TRIOS] – Lucha Memes – 02/05/2018 – GOOD
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHPjyo-vk0c
The Dinamitas get to be the big boys in a match for once and it’s against the underdog-est flipping team in the Mexican indies. The Kamikazes have some really inventive spots, they get Arena Naucalpan really hot, and they provide an admirable challenge for NGD’s belts.

Ricky Marvin vs Keyra – Lucha Memes – 01/07/2018 – GOOD
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRxTVBHFopc
Well-constructed match in one of the best arenas for wrestling, Coliseo Coacalco. Ricky tries to set up as many environmental traps as he can, to questionable success. He did take two shots to the head that I wish he didn't. Keyra held her own against the 20-year veteran. Some really cool spots in this one.

Centvrión vs Metaleón – Mexa Wrestling – 01/27/2018 – GREAT
Full Match (hard cam) - https://www.facebook.com/CarxyusRing/videos/1832438736780182/
Highlight (handheld, better angles of floor action) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAcoVW1sHBg
I watched an extended highlight for this one, then spent a while looking high and low for the full match. thecubsfan had me covered, so I went back and watched the full match. Overall the full version didn't quite live up to the promise of the highlight, but the match was still very good. The first half is slow and the amount of unprotected head shots started to make me uncomfortable, but this is a heated, violent brawl.

Australian Suicide © vs Hijo Del Vikingo [AAA CRUISER] – AAA – 02/09/2018 – GREAT
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/227469518?t=00h31m55s
Australian Suicide attempts the first defense of his title against one of the hottest young talents in AAA, Hijo Del Vikingo. Vikingo pulls out all the stops while Suicide is an excellent heel cruiserweight. This is a shining example of a Mexican junior wrestling match.

Carta Brava Jr., Mocho Cota Jr., Tito Santana vs Averno, Chessman, Súper Fly – AAA – 02/09/2018 – GOOD
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/227469518?t=01h21m18s
On the other end of the spectrum from the high flying match earlier in the night, you have two rudo trios battling in the platonic ideal of a lucha libre trios brawl. They literally go all over the building, there are TWO beer buckets, there is a beer seller trying to get his beer bucket back from the wrestlers who stole it, and a solidly-booked finish. When was the last time you saw the crowd throw money in (and rightfully so) for a match that was in the actual ring for like 20% at most?

Ludark Shaitan vs Lunatik Extreme – Zona 23 – 02/11/2018 – FUN
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=goUYqgPmt3A
The match itself is hard-hitting and has some cool weapon spots. It takes place in Arena Independiente in Tultitlán which is another one of those amazing "tour around Mexico independent wrestling" venues. It basically looks like a lot behind a building with a tarp hanging over it, complete with a scrap pile. Said scrap pile is full of car windshields and they are used to great effect in this match.

Niebla Roja vs Soberano Jr. – CMLL – 02/23/2018 – EPIC
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnczGJl5WU8&t=1h20m31s
Niebla Roja continues his post-mask renaissance by demonstrating with Soberano Jr. the very top of how good it's possible to make a match with a ten minute time limit. Both guys bring their biggest moves. The finish is very cool.

Último Guerrero & Volador Jr. vs Rush & Terrible [natl pi, final] – CMLL – 02/23/2018 – EXCELLENT
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnczGJl5WU8&t=1h38m43s
The "incredible pairs" tournament each year seems to be a place where you are guaranteed an impeccably worked final with a match-up that you don't see regularly. This year's final wasn't as good in the ring as last year's (which won the Luchablog Tapatia Match of the Year) but the story it told kept it on the same high level that you expect. Volador is sporting a face mask from a nose injury suffered against Último Guerrero earlier in the week, and now they have to team up to battle two guys who seem to have the chemistry that you wouldn't expect from a pareja increíble of enemies. The match builds and the brawling is great and the storytelling is great and the result is great. Don't skip on the few minutes post-match either, it's important to the story. Any wrestling fan should go out of their way to see this match.

The wrestler currently known as "Rey Horus" was the second Hijo de Rey Misterio. He works the US a lot and is upper mid-card in The Crash as well as working at least a few times on Lucha Underground. He's a very good wrestler. He doesn't actually seem to be related to Rey Misterio Jr. at all.

The one that's Rey's cousin still uses that gimmick and the Luchablog database does show him working sparsely in 2017. He seems to be using the name "El Heredero Rey Misterio" which means something like "Inheritor." http://www.thecubsfan.com/cmll/wcards/elhijodereymisterio.php

This is from the same card as the previously-reviewed Centvrión vs Metaleón match. It’s billed as “triangular de alto impacto” and I think it is a nice representation of the Mexican indie version of Strong Style. The guys come up with some interesting three-way spots, the story of “Toxin and Aramis need to team to outwork the veteran Marvin” is good, and everyone gets some good moves in.

The in-ring work in this one isn’t anything special. The reason I recommend this match is that Bombero Infernal’s heel work continues to be tremendous. Watch it for that. It’s not often that between-falls stuff is this key to how good a match is.

Marcela & Zeuxis vs Keyra & Lady Maravilla – ANCLA – 02/03/2018 – GOOD
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crCw10sExe4
The big main event of ANCLA’s Maniacomania show is two big CMLL star veterans Marcela and Zeuxis taking on the up-and-coming “Las Conmadres” team of Keyra and Lady Maravilla. Zeuxis and Keyra have been feuding lately in Mexican indies, and the “experience vs. youth” set-up you get a heated match with a loud crowd. The venue, Salón Citlalli, has a very cool look that makes the fans a part of the action. And the action here is very good. Lots of brutal knee drops from Marcela, kicks to the face that seem like they probably hurt a lot, and a finish that continues the feud. This one’s well worth your time.

Sádico & Yoruba vs Audaz & Titán – Pura Raza – 03/03/2018 – GOOD
https://www.facebook.com/jc.caritajc/videos/vb.100008300207000/2122980164655303/
This match is from the debut show of a new promotion that is bringing in good CMLL wrestlers and setting up fun match-ups. This is exactly the type of situation that Audaz and Titán deserve to show off their skills outside of the CMLL undercard. Titán is great in the role of “high profile vet too good to be slumming with these indie guys.” Everyone puts in a solid performance, young Audaz displays his limitless potential, and the dives are fantastic. The main knock on this one is that I am not that into strike exchanges and there were quite a few in here, even if they were good.

Máscara de Bronce vs Bengala vs Dark Scoria vs Argenis [Rey de Reyes, semifinal] – AAA – 03/04/2018 – GREAT
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/235323493?t=00h55m20s
I’m aware that I am probably grading on a curve and adhering to my “AAA Is Good In 2018” gimmick when I rate a 7 minute match that is all spots as “great,” but sometimes I am just in the mood to watch people do cool flips with no story and it struck me just right watching this. So yeah this one’s probably close to the border with “good” and you have been warned. Just enjoy the flips.

Averno, Chessman, Súper Fly vs Carta Brava Jr., Mocho Cota Jr., Tito Santana [TLC] – AAA – 03/04/2018 – GOOD
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/235323493?t=01h50m26s
The OGT vs Poder del Norte blow-off match is the other good match on the Rey de Reyes show with a similar value: limited storytelling, more about stout guys exploding pieces of plywood. And yes, this is a TLC title match where the rules are pinfall or submission. The belts are not hanging above the ring. Bloody and violent with interesting spots.

There are many different ways you will end up watching Mexican indie matches when you look for them. This one is a shaky handheld camera from the apron recording a stiff brawl. A heavenly pairing. When you can feel the strikes and slams through your monitor, you are living the match.

Lilith Dark vs Sky Man – WMC – 02/11/2018 – FUN
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cz67c8dSk5A
Quick and stiff Strong Style match. Bonus points for the unique venue, Salón Balumcanan, that looks like it will be shutting down the wrestling event at any moment so they can set up for a bar mitzvah later in the evening. The stuff outside the ring is creative and there is some good work in here. I wish Lilith Dark got more offense in the match but that’s a minor complaint.

Penta 0M vs The King (Rey Fenix) – 1927 – 02/18/2018 – GREAT
https://www.facebook.com/lanetadelascuerdas/videos/2055815741299707/
The match is good enough that you can forgive the quality of the recording. The two brothers go to battle and the story is their familiarity. Most of the sequences have an additional two levels of avoiding and countering before someone lands a move. They are on equal footing and it seems like either could win. In this specific video, you get an angle on a tope con giro where Fenix blasts Penta through the front row that is excellent.

Dragón Lee & Mistico vs Forastero & Sansón [CMLL TAG, 8f] – CMLL – 03/02/2018 – GOOD
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZE57iA3apRc&t=01h09m25s
The present and future of CMLL put on a blistering display in the category of “you get up to one good match in a CMLL tournament outside of the final.” The actually open the tournament up with the longest match of the night and they do all the biggest moves. So you can enjoy this, then turn the show off and feel good about your decision.

Princesa Sugehit vs Zeuxis – Pura Raza – 03/03/2018 – FUN
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUob8_gmHsU
They’ve wrestled a million times in CMLL so they decide to freshen the battle up here with crowd brawling. Beers are thrown, the crowd is hot, and for some reason they are both antagonizing Edgar. A nice time.

Johnny Idol, Sam Adonis, Titán vs Hechicero, Kráneo, Stuka Jr. – CMLL – 03/05/2018 – GOOD
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OhbIsK8_nVs&t=01h07m40s
This is another ideal Arena Puebla trios match. Because of the time limits and booking constraints, you don’t tune into these matches to see technical classics. This match shines because it’s all about the wrestlers doing bits. Sam Adonis in the intimate setting of Arena Puebla is one of the very best things currently going in wrestling. The Relevos Increíbles structure allows Kráneo to be a face, which he basically is anyway, but it also allows Titán to try out being a rudo. And he is awesome at it. I have hyped myself up so much writing up this match that I have upgraded the rating from FUN to GOOD. Watch this one.

Dinastía, Dragón Solar, Pardux vs Bronco González Jr., Fetiche, Mini Histeria – AAA – 03/17/2018 – GOOD
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/239943325?t=00h05m56s
Sometimes the gospel of AAA Is Good In 2018 contains the message “you get one good match on a show” and I hope you don’t notice that the main event was the worst match of the year. In this case, it was the opener showcasing four Llave a Gloria 2017 finalists along with two established mini stars. To me, they can’t push the young talent fast enough. Pardux had a particularly good showing in this match, and Dinastía is one of the best workers in AAA. Cool teamwork, creative dives, and a neat finish in an 8 minute package.

NOTE: I will recommend Audaz, Flyer, Star Jr. vs Disturbio, Templario, Virus and Ángel de Oro vs El Cuatrero from CMLL’s 3/16 Homanaje a Dos Leyendas show in an upcoming post, they both make the cut but I don’t want to write them up without links to the matches.

A rare all-CMLL recs post, because I'm behind on everything else in my RSS queue.

Audaz, Flyer, Star Jr. vs Disturbio, Templario, Virus – CMLL – 03/16/2018 – GREAT
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SW9v5kZ443Y
Another premium example of big show CMLL letting the lower card guys go all out in the opener. They've got something to prove and the tecnicos especially show off some fantastic stuff. Audaz is going to break into the upper card sooner than you'd think in CMLL because he is making the best of every opportunity they give him.

Ángel de Oro vs El Cuatrero [mask] – CMLL – 03/16/2018 – EPIC
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KLSmFSWrjw
Mask match good enough to deserve to headline the second biggest CMLL show of the year. Cuatrero showed that he belongs at this level. Ángel de Oro, maybe not, but his performance here was at the top of what he's capable of delivering. I may have enjoyed the first fall most in this match, which is not something you ever really say about a three-fall CMLL match. This is a dramatic match with a hot crowd that you should definitely watch.

Kráneo vs Euforia – CMLL – 03/19/2018 – GOOD
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNpEvnwlusY&t=01h04m06s
Rare one fall, no time limit match in CMLL, and a true clash of the titans. Kráneo is a tremendously likeable big man that is seemingly on his way from leaving the rudos to be a good guy since the crowd already loves him. Big Euf is here to punish him for it. They take good advantage of the Arena Puebla venue and set a good pace for their size. In the end it feels like both has given it their all in the ring.

Carístico, Último Guerrero, Gran Guerrero vs Mistico, Volador Jr., Valiente – CMLL – 03/26/2018 – GOOD
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ju9N6ipo5iY&t=1h47m47s
Entertaining story-based match where the Puebla crowd is nuclear to the point that Sky Team end up being the heels. I don't know that CMLL will ever actually pull the trigger on the Carístico/Mistico feud, but any time we can even get teases like this it is so sweet.

Soberano Jr. vs Bárbaro Cavernario – CMLL – 03/27/2018 – EXCELLENT
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rZRU6xV13I&t=1h25m52s
I had last October's Puebla meeting between these two as my favorite CMLL match of 2017. This meeting has a completely different feel in Arena México. This is is rudo Cavernario, barbarian Cavernario. Not just everyone's favorite fun caveman. By the end of the second fall you feel like it doesn't matter who actually wins the match, Soberano lost it due to the punishment he endured. Throw in an unconventional fall structure, a crowd that they reel in as the match goes on, and the fact that they turn in such a good performance with nothing on the line on a Tuesday night and you get a match that I highly recommend.

Late recs but at least I watched some indie stuff this time.

LA Park vs Rey Wagner vs Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. – Grand Lucha – 03/02/2018 – FUN
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9NZS0_quj4 (some clipping)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NjqZUEVIaU (+Lucha highlight, better angles)
Park/Wagner have met a million times and these days if you watch them too close together you can get worn out on the feud because they don’t break new ground much any more. This one goes to that next level because Wagner has been feuding with his son and that brings something else into the dynamic. This is the definition of a fun match. You’re not watching for a technical classic, you’re here for The Bits. Probably a couple minutes have been clipped out, but you still get to see 15 solid minutes that tell the whole story.

Blue Panther vs Hechicero – Pura Raza – 03/03/2018 – FUN
Part One: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzTRxp-WdkA
Part Two: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ml5OLwC5lMQ
Easy-to-watch meeting between a veteran and a master. In most of Hechicero’s matches he’s the one with more experience, so it’s nice to see him explore being at a disadvantage in lucha mat work. The build is smooth and it’s a Panther match so it doesn’t just end with a normal fall. Make sure you watch both files.

Dr. Cerebro vs Ricky Marvin – IWRG – 03/2018
03/04 – One Fall: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pBx3qhnvdsGOOD
03/11 – One Fall, Super Libre (No DQ): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXnJs-ROgKcFUN
03/18 – IWRG Intercontinental Middleweight Championship: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-u5l2JKpdk8GOOD
03/25 – Hair vs Hair: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26bhrLDgGccGREAT
Ricky Marvin came to IWRG and wrestled Dr. Cerebro every Sunday in March, with escalating stakes. Marvin’s having an incredible 2018 so far since leaving AAA for the Mexican indies. I found all the matches to be enjoyable but the final encounter was especially great. World veteran vs. local veteran is a solid premise for a feud and they did excellent technical wrestling and brawling in this series.

Mistico, Valiente, Volador Jr. © vs Carístico, Gran Guerrero, Último Guerrero [CMLL TRIOS] – CMLL – 04/02/2018 – GREAT
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5VNhdGbKiQ&t=5468s
CMLL gave time to a Puebla main event and it’s a title match, so you get just about the best possible trios match. The building is full and hot, and the Carístico/Mistico feud is the key element. Smart structure, smooth work, and a notable finish. Go out of your way to check this one out.

Shorter than usual write-ups because I’d like to make a post and encourage myself to not be so far behind in watching and posting. Guaranteed to have less accurate ratings and shoddier reasoning for recommendation, because I bookmarked these after watching them instead of immediately writing down why I liked the match and I have a bad memory.

Laredo Kid vs Rey Horus – MDA – 02/18/2018 – GOOD
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2U9mlGawc0
Technically good match, but hurt by both guys being técnicos and Horus not stepping up into the rudo role as the non-local. Some very cool moves.

Concord & Raptor vs Fetiche & Villano III Jr. – AAA – 03/16/2018 – FUN
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZklrRUGhYc
From the work this is a basic above average tag match. It’s worth a look because Villano III Jr. shows tremendous charisma and I can see him becoming a big star. I see the same kind of thing here that I see in Sansón, where you get expressive body language that makes up for not being able to see his face.

Soberano Jr. vs Negro Casas – CMLL – 04/13/2018 – GOOD
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KsgmLRbCdd4&t=3788s
Expertly worked lightning match. Both guys are still great in 2018.

Blue Panther Jr., Pegasso, The Panther vs Templario, Puma, Tiger – CMLL – 04/20/2018 – GOOD
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEquXrAy388&t=1235s
Templario is really good. Puma and Tiger integrate him into their teamwork to the point that they do a triple fusion pose. Panther Jr. is on. The match is good.

The Panther vs Fuego – CMLL – 04/24/2018 – FUN
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbiaHeExT-4&t=2880s
I guess I saved this one because I liked it. I enjoy The Panther. Of all the matches on this list I watched this the most recently and I don’t remember a thing about it. But it’s a lightning match and you’ve got 10 minutes.

LuchaDB has him under Hijo de LA Park since 2010. That also means he's been wrestling for 8 years and he still hasn't figured out that he shouldn't be "generic indie guy" and instead be "literally doing his dad's gimmick from early AAA." Then again Wagner's son has the same problem and is a worse worker.

I'll also note that the cruiserweight #1 contenders 4-man that starts around 35:30 I'd also put at almost HM level, and the tag title match starting at like 50:20 is good too. All around this is a very solid episode of wrestling television.

So wait what was the deal with Park/Rush not having blood - is that a CMLL rule or an Arena Mexico rule?

If so - does that mean no blood for the Mask vs. Hair match at the same venue?
CMLL owns Arena Mexico, and traditionally doesn't allow blood.

Doesn't mean a firm no, especially on the biggest show of the year(/ever) but many people thought if they were going to do it they would have let them do it Friday. And Rush had been promising it but wasn't able to convince The CMLL Booking Hat.

My theory is that Rush is going to shave Volador Jr. (Park's nephew) at this year's Anniversario and they will use that as the basis to spend and entire year building to Park vs. Rush at next year's Anniversario.

My guess as to why is a combination of Park drawing even bigger than they imagined and that Park has gotten a renaissance of bookings in the US and he didn't want to lose his mask yet.
