You seemed a bit iffy about the WiiU port of Bayonetta 1 in one of the videos. Is there something wrong with it?

The WiiU port is good, but it's got nothing on the native 360 version. Colours in the port are a little less vibrant, almost the same as the PS3 version, and there are a lot more instances where the framerate will plummet. On the plus side, there's no screen tearing and it's definitely the definitive version of the game. Digital Foundry did a good comparison on all the versions, but they fail to play the game past the first few chapters (and thus declare the Wii U version as the best). The room with the disappearing platforms in the Tower to Truth chapter is slow as molasses, for example.

When playing Bayonetta on Wii U the worst level Route 666. Specifically the fight before and after riding the motorbike. That was easily the most frustrating section to try and Pure Platinum because the slowdown ruined the timing I was used to. I haven't played Bayonetta on either of the other consoles, but it didn't seem to be nearly as bad.

This gets worse with bosses and on infinite climax. It's not bad per se, because enemies in Bayo 1 did it as well, but the frequency with which enemies do it in 2 is just bad (and again is probably lazy design to artificially make fights more difficult). You can mostly get around it by hitting them in the back, and Umbran Spear will *generally* put you behind enemies when it works properly, but some enemies (bosses) will still parry you even if you hit them from behind.
The annoying frequency of blocking/breaking-your-cool-combo in two feels more like they were trying to push Witch Time and Umbran Climax more aggressively on the player. It's also really annoying coming out of WT or UC only to have them instantly block your next attack and counter.

I actually don't remember having slowdown in that part on Wii U (although it was definitely horrible on PS3) but the Wii U version does have slowdown at the first part of the airship chapter and during the Jubileus fight when her hair heads do their big elemental attacks. I haven't played the 360 version so I can't compare, but I'm reasonably sure those bits of slowdown weren't in it.

I haven't watched the latest video but in the first three you made a lot of complaints about the time requirements for pure platinum necessitating a pretty unstylish, "meta" form of fighting.

So...why not just forget the pure platinum runs and go for recording fights that are more interesting?

The way I see it, some people enjoy the challenge and mechanics presented in the original. I find the sequel perfectly fine, but I can understand that people who dove deeper into the first one were disappointed with what were removed. I think it's pretty informative to see that side of the argument, and the fact Yoshesque is showing that she can play the game at a very high skill level while pointing out the adjustments made makes it a much stronger case in my view.

If you never played the game yeah, it's just butt rock; but the way they use the music in-game is that it changes depending on which phase of the bossfight you're in, you start out with just the base instruments, you get a couple more effects when something awesome happens, and the lyrics kick in in the final phases, so it's usually a gently caress YEAH moment.

So RULES OF NATURE is just butt rock, but the first time you actually hear the lyrics kick in is all kinds of amazing, because you're fighting a god drat Metal Gear Ray with a sword and it's still the tutorial level.

This is exactly why people love it.
For instance the Rules of Nature lyrics kick in while you're jumping from missile to missile towards metal gear ray. How can you not love the music for being the perfect choice for all the crazy over the top poo poo that goes on.

Like Dantes said, you don't really hear that much of Rules of Nature, because in game it's mostly just the bass guitar track, it only spins up to the vocals twice, once when you first parry the Ray. And again when you're running across a field of in-flight missiles and then suplexed into a clock tower that you then run down in order to cut the metal gear ray in half like a banana.

It's an incredibly average song but when you first hear RULES OF NATURE! you know something amazing is going to happen.

I would say neither, but she has a few times that the fights are not as stylish as they could be because of the time limit. So unless there is a substantial reward for a full pure platinum run, I would just forgo worrying about the time limit at all in favor of having fun with the fights.

Yeah, Mistral's theme is way good. Definitely better in my opinion than Rules of Nature. Really most of the character themes are better than Rules of Nature (not to say that it's bad at all), and I think it mostly gets all the hype because it has a hell of an impact.

Bringing it around to Bayonetta 2, with the exception of the criminally underused Moon River and Tomorrow is Mine, I think on the whole Bayonetta 2's music is weaker than that of the first game. There aren't really any standouts like the themes from each Jeanne fight in 1, and the various remixes don't improve much on the original song.

Based on what I've heard so far, I'd agree. I'd say the Jeanne themes are the real standouts of the first game. Mind you we haven't really seen a good comparison to Jeanne's fights yet.

I quite like Jeanne 1's theme, it's so relaxed compared to the rest of the fight music.

There was a conscious effort to make Bayonetta's music more "feminine", and Battle For the Umbra Throne's probably the best example of it. Lots of jazzy 60's-esque stuff, and "lighter" segments, compared to DMC's electric guitar lead, more gutteral, butt-rock.

Bayo2 keeps that jazzy feel, but slants it to the more sweeping orchestral side of things - lots more synth-choir, strings, etc.

Glamor

Glamor, as a First Sphere Seraph, rests at the highest rank in the angelic hierarchy. Seraphim are the closest beings to God in existence and cannot be seen by humans in the physical world under any circumstances.

Yet, since the dawn of history, there have been discoveries of statues depicting a six-winged snake traversing the heavens. Most likely these have some connection with The Book of Revelation, written by a Lumen Sage and found in the scriptures of Ithavoll.

Of course, this means there must have been a sage capable of connecting to Paradiso and conversing with Glamor through spiritual means.

Diomedes

One of the four man-eating horses that were owned by the ruler of a fallen kingdom.

With the demise of the kingdom, the horses were murdered and arrived in hell. Of the four, the soul of one inherited the name of the king and was reborn as a demon.

The large blade extending from its forehead is a soul reaper that leaves a trail of mutilated dead in whatever direction it runs.

Though it typically hates being treated like a horse, it tolerates those who have proven themselves worthy.

Taboo

Every civilization in history weaves narratives starring heroes who, cursing the fates who take loved ones from them, travel to the ends of the world and beyond to bring them back. Resurrection is a universal theme of our kind.

I am not even sure if I believe in the existence of the soul to begin with, but the desire to be with the one you love? Now you're speaking my language.

When these feelings are strong enough, they can drive us to challenge our seemingly immutable fate. Yet many a myth ends with gods themselves failing in their quest. No matter how iron your will, or how pious your prayer, life once lost can never be returned. Such a power was never meant to be wielded by man.

That said, if there are any hopeless romantics left in the world who still want to give it a shot, I know the way to hell and I'd be happy to give you an escort. Just send me an email:

They really dropped the ball on giant bosses in this one. None of them measure up to the Auditio fights in the first, and I kinda feel it's because they decided to fit them into the multiplayer mode? Since you couldn't really do, say, Temperantia like that they just decided hey, slap some wings on Bayonetta and cal it a day.

The thing is it sounds amazing on paper but you do nothing in the 'waterspout' section except dodge and mash Kafka. If they gave more chances to actually fight Glamor in that section it might have been better.

With flying battles I always have a problem with closing distance and it drags out the battle but that's probably just me. With reruns I now switch to a certain weapon and it speeds up the whole process.

Undine

Two flamethrowers containing the soul of Undine, who threw herself into the Cocytus river after a failed relationship.

Undine's extreme feelings of jealousy burst into searing flame, reducing her enemies to ash. Her breath of lament freezes all who are hit by it dead in their tracks.

Fidelity

Considered a creature of the sea due to its fish-like body and multiple tentacle-like arms, Fidelity departed from the ocean to impart humanity with their primeval memories.

Those who forget their past and begin to disrupt the serenity of life are often dragged by this angel to the darkest depths of the ocean.

The ocean is a sacred place, the area of Earth that is closest to Paradiso, as the intense water pressure of the depths means it has remained untouched by human hands since the beginning of time. A large celestial veil covers the sea's expanse, and until this day there has never been a human who has witnessed the seas in their entirety.

Masked Lumen

According to the Vigrid Chronicles of Avellaneda, the 500-year struggle between the Umbra and the Lumen ended with the defeat of the last remaining sage at the hands of two Umbra Witches. Yet, as if to mock these records, a masked man appeared before Bayonetta with the power of the heavens and the swiftness of light.

The Lumen had not perished.

Sovereign

People of the ancient world would depend on the word of God for guidance in times of doubt.

Good to know I'm not the only one who likes having someone to back me up and give me a shove in the right direction when I need it.

Perhaps this is a perennial bad habit that, despite our progress, mankind just can't seem to shake.

The folly known as "fortune-telling" is just one of the ways we, as a species, have come up with to imitate the true Sovereign power of God.

Speaking of which, it just so happens I found an intriguing card, with a very mysterious aura about it.

It must have belonged to that little boy I just bumped into; though I can't imagine why he'd be carrying something with these bizarre tarot-like markings.

When I look at it, I feel like the card is trying to tell me where to go. Well, I won't get far with a single card: how else would they sell you the whole set?
