The multicolor one looks bad. The silver one looks most like a real watch and the black one looks like a fitness tracker or something.

Not sure what argument you're trying to make showing another hideous smartwatch. I like the middle screen which has the minute numbers on the dial even though it has them physically built into the non-rotatable bezel. It's better than the Nixon, but that's not saying much.

Which of those are traditional watch companies, again? (Actually, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Samsung makes watches.)

It's not like Michael Kors makes nice traditional watches, so I'm not sure why anyone would expect anything different for their smartwatches.

I'd like something at least as thin and light as my 38mm Apple Watch, but I guess I'll sacrifice NFC if it has decent battery life (and preferably currently supported) There's literally no Android watches that small.

Well, using an old, slow SOC also means it's using an old, power-hungry SOC, which necessitates a bigger battery, and by extension bigger device. The current state of Android Wear is that the smallest devices are the size of large men's watch, which is functionally cutting out half the potential market.

LastInLine posted:I don't think that's it at all. I think they released a mediocre product in response to The Next Big Thing and slapped together the base minimum necessary because neither Samsung (who entered the product space first due to Apple's cunning misdirection) nor Apple (who forgot they made up the idea of the smartwatch just to trick Samsung) was going to license their platform. This, of course, goes back to Qualcomm not bothering to make updated hardware that can actually get decent battery life that would enable companies to make smaller watches that people actually want to wear. I will agree that people do not see smartwatches as a necessity like they do phones, but that was always going to be the case.

Rastor posted:The thing is there are actually a lot of mobile SoC suppliers. Does anybody know the technical reasons smartwatch designers must build around Snapdragon Wear instead of choosing anything else? My guess would simply be that OEMs would rather work with a vendor they already buy parts from rather than going to MediaTek or whoever. I wouldn't be shocked to learn Qualcomm gives, say Huawei a discount on Wear SOCs since they buy lots of phone SOCs.

The Apple Watch Series 4 ECG function is an FDA-approved medical device (in the US, obviously - other countries only have access of their local equivalent approves). It's also not a constant, ongoing thing. You have to actively use it. The regular heart rate monitor is, at least, best in class.
