All our experiments and development have been great fun.

Those 4 Pyrodex pellets in our 585 HE gets a 440 gr Minie Bullet
over 2500 fps, Great big bang and big cloud of smoke.

Those are 54cal pellets with total weight for the 4 of 180gr.
And all that smoke goes great with some of the old style
guns we put the cartridge in. Like this rebarreled Greener GP
which had a 12ga barrel, but we put on a 585 one with
slow twist, to use Minie Bullets, And of course it works
with smokeless powders too. And the thumbhole stock handles
recoil fine. Makes a ne gun. Ed

There are the two videos of Swans testing the first 585HE in AUS,

at the URL I posted in thread above.

On y-tube the guy in TX has video of his 585 shooting, Type in 'Hubel Express'

On y-tube the 12ga FH atomizing big pail of water.

Type in 'Grandpa's Cannon' and 'Grandpa's First Shot'

I don't have a store , just email us gunowner at journey.com and we

have stuff(barrels, etc) on hand for you or a smith make you a 585HE

with your action, or maybe we have an action or help find one.

Plus we have cases and loading dies. And we have list other places where

you can get all these also.Ed

PS- The regular lead Minies of about 9 hardness don't lead the 1 to 48" slow twist

barrels, For our regular 1 to 20" twist barrels, if they are cast from hard alloy

about 18-22 hardness they work ok. ..Ed

Well a case that big with the speed it gets, is louder than most

so people can be startled by it.Sounds like an 88 if your next to it.

About lead bullets, for hunting and regular target fun I like them best, because of price

and they do any job if cast with hard enough alloy and can be as hard as a solid

if heat treated, We got some 650gr treated that are about 30 hardness.

So hard don't even need gas checks. As hard as the jacketed in picture.Ed.

The OU is short range sighting for now with sights set for the top 585 barrel,

and 12ga shotgun bottom barrel is close to that, I was going to do both

in 585 but first one was all the work and time I could stand.

A double 12ga or 10ga over a 585HE single would be great also,

but that is beyond my expertise. Much easier to put 585 in bolt

and singleshots one at a time, like this single we made by mono-blocking

in a 585 barrel into a 12ga barrel stub section. It is a strong built Pedretti

break action, made in Italy, and made like the same style Berettas. Ed

Our little group of big bore nuts just want to get more guys into
really big bores and we feel our 585HE is the best way that
is affordable, and most versatile. That is why we post
anywhere we can, And as a bonus, if it makes us famous
hooray, I like to be half as famous as Elmer Keith.

And the sales of stuff at cost will just pay the 35 grand debt
to get it all made, if some sales occur by getting the word out.

We can use heavy jacketed bullets , long pointed ones for long range,
light Minie bullets for deer, hogs, economical target fun.

TCs will handle moderate 30- 35,000 psi loads like the NEF and other break
actions we have done. But the TC barrels are not big enough breech to thread
as a mono block like we do with NEF and others with barrel breechs .200" bigger.
You'd have to have guys with the right welders, etc, weld on the TC pivot blocks
directly on the 585 barrels.

The back thrust is what an action must hold and a 12ga with twice the base
area and half the pressure, has same thrust as a 585 with half the base area
and twice the pressure. And 585 with 30-35,000 psi load, with right powder
can have 7-8,000 ft lbs. Ed

Gritty's gonna cut you.

Just wondering if in your experience that the vibe you got from the ATF is that a round that could be chambered in a semi automatic weapon, automatic grounds for not getting an exemption(or is it more if you say it vs if it's possible)? I'm just wondering if the semi was say some massively built up version of a Remington Model 8 or other "fudd hunting semi" that's not an AR, FAL, etc with no evil features, if they'd let it fly.

A semi auto elephant/Soviet Anti Tank gun would be pretty amazing.

Hell a way to make it work with as AR upper would be cool...I mean yes there is .458 socom...but this is better...granted ATF would pitch a fit most likely.

We were told by a couple folks experienced in DD doings

that don't mention pumps or autos, which was enough for

us to go on, as we just didn't want the hassle..

It's more the practice of don't mention.

I think once it is out for a dozen years and there are couple thousand or more

guns and 200,000 rounds out, as a sporting case, then it will be treated

about like the 50bmg and the crats won't care what it is in. . Ed

Yep and every time we fire the 585HE we get a big grin and a thrill.

When the 585 goes off the sound is like standing behind a tank gun.

And when we open a barrel of cases it is a great deal, amazing that a

cartridge developed by a bunch poor peons, is now being manufactured.

We don't have to make them anymore. And the guys doing cases can do

them when needed from the brass cups and the first 6-7 draws and annealings

that is used when they make Cheytac cases and just keep a huge supply of

drawn cups, as they are making them all the time. Then for our case use a

header for 585 belted case , for cheytac and gibbs use different header.

Kind of automates the process...Ed

Our 585 has lots of versatile things to do with it' We made a couple
of smooth bore test guns and with hollow base Minie bullets fairly
accurate at 50 yds. And we also did some shot loads. The 24ga
cards and wads work as 24ga is same bore.

Another use a guy come up with is subsonic whisper cartridge,
a 1200 gr bullet at 1050 fps is 3000 ft lbs,
a 1600 gr same speed 4000 ft lbs.Makes the most
powerful whisper round ever.

And if course can use lighter bullets, and do them in same guns by
seating longer bullets down in the case. The case is
parallel for 3/4 of its length down inside. Below are
some dummy rounds. They can be seated down in case
and still have the room needed for the amount
of powder needed to get them to 1050 fps.And to
eliminate airspace use 24ga wads.Ed
