The "move every ethnic group over one" idea. A Germanic France, Slavic Germany, and a Turko-Persian Poland.

Maximum potential for variance would dictate have as many cultures/entities alive as possible. This option gives Greeks/ERE, slavs, and a little germans, plus all the other stuff we have previously decided.

Ugh, what's with all these Romes, Byzantophiles??? The "Romes" so far are the Caralian Empire, the Holy Roman Empire, and if it makes the vote, the Byzantine Empire. Britain is as much a continuation of the Roman Empire as we are, which is to say not Raserys fucked around with this message at 06:02 on Jun 16, 2015 |

Hey, speaking of Ottomans, Ofaloaf needs to probably remove most scripted adventurer hordes that aren't the Mongols, I think, because things have changed so much. I think he should come up with new ones down the line. Since IMO these adventurers are cool and shake things up a bit.

Rincewind did that in ByzLP and then there were Chinese in Spain. Along the line it led to cool things, but at the time it was a bit surprising to say the least.

The Slavic Takeover The initial Slavic migrations were welcomed by the Eastern Roman Empire, as it desperately needed recruits to try and stop the Sassanid advance on Anatolia, and in return for their service in the army, many Slavs were allowed to settle in the provinces of Thrace and Illyria. Over the decades, Slavs came to dominate the army, as more and more Eastern provinces were lost and the Greek elites were reluctant to enter military service. It was the domination of the empire's army that would secure the Slavic domination of the empire. After a botched coup in the early 500's the Slavic generals, nominally working in the name of the boy-emperor of the time, began rooting out the Greek elites that had plotted to overthrow him. Those nobles would be replaced by former Slavic chiefs, which was the first taste for the Eastern Romans of what was to come in the next centuries. This process culminated in the early 700s, when a Slavic general successfully usurped the crown and styling himself Tiberius and gaining control over the entire empire. In game terms, the ERE stretches up to the Danube and its northern half is firmly Slavic, while the Greeks have been reduced mostly to Attica. The reigning emperor is Slavic, but the cohabitation of Greeks and Slavs in the empire means that they are in the process of developing a new syncretic culture (melting pot events).

Slavs, allies and vassals of the Roman Empire The ERE needed men to fight its enemies, and Slavs (Eastern Slavs in particular) took up the call. Once the ERE had retaken most of Anatolia, the Slavs who had fought for the Romans settled those lands, and eventually, most of Anatolia was majority culturally and linguistically Slavic, so *Russian, *Ilmenian, *Ruthenian etc. (they have different names, obviously) are all found in Anatolia. All the Slavic Kingdoms of Anatolia are vassals of the ERE, and have more autonomy than the rest of the ERE vassals in Greece and the Balkans. Just Like in: all the Western Slavic groups settled east of Gothia. Vote for this if you want a Byzantium that is strong, but still at the mercy of its vassals, militarily. If the Slavs start up some factions... Especially consider voting for this if you have already voted for and want the Eastern Slavs to be in a good position too.
