Rinne got the shutout record sometime in the first period. Good that he didn't play like this when facing the Hawks.

Canada/Belarus is the first confirmed quarterfinal matchup. The rest of the matchups will be decided by the results of USA/Slovakia and Finland/Russia later today. But regardless, the quarterfinalists are CAN, SWE, CZE, SUI, USA, RUS, FIN and BLR.

https://instagram.com/p/2ls3t9HMnS/ France beats Latvia in a shootout to avoid relegation. Good for them. They had a couple of close losses to Canada and Sweden, so it's good that they found a win to have something more tangible to show for their play. e: Also Belarus with the positive goal differential, which might be a first for them.

And with that, USA/Switzerland quarterfinal is locked. The middle pairings are to be determined by Finland and Russia, who'll play in an hour. The winner of that game will move from Ostrava to Prague and play Czech Republic first and the winner of Canada/Belarus in the semis. The loser will remain in Ostrava and play Sweden in the QF and USA or Switzerland in the semis. I'm not too sure if either team really wants to win here.

For those who missed it, this is a kneeing: Komarov got 5+20 min game misconduct for that. Thank god they at least reversed the automatic suspension for the next game, because that is some hilarious stuff.

That's barely even a body check... the IIHF refs would find some way to penalize a firm handshake.
