Starting May fresh I feel like I should confess to feeling some major auto ADD lately.

I find myself googling terms like "997 ownership" and "e9x M3 ownership" and wondering if I can deal with the occasional annoyance/frustration of maintenance of a 5+ year old (and potentially expensive and temperamental) car like those because of the added joy both cars are well known to provide. Or I could just wait for the Focus RS.

I'm kind of thinking a nice personal goal with my next car would be to keep it AT LEAST 4 years (barring major circumstances like catastrophic failure, an accident or theft).

While I have not looked at the operating costs of the 997 it is probably out of my reach. For the last year however I have been planning my life out to get an E90 M3 sedan. The more time I spend looking at them the more I can see that they are perched at being an incredible value for an outstanding car. They also appear pretty robust for being lolGermanEngineering etc, even our resident german auto industry spy DasVolk will always spew positive things about it. Just yesterday I came across this thread while at work and it seems to have some pretty interesting info: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=682601 I skipped through the beginning and started reading about page 28. For some reason people seem to be posting a lot about mileage. It is not a Prius, I don't get why people are shocked it gets crap fuel economy when you are driving the crap out of it.

:siren: Blipshift sale is going on right now. :siren: Bought a couple of tees for myself and the E30 M3 DTM tee for my 3yr old daughter :3:

It's the posts and testimonials like this that get me so excited for when I will get one. It's not an 'if', crap it's not even a 'when'. I won't consider a car an investment, they are definitely an expense, unless you consider it investing in life experience and quality of living. I know gas will be expensive, and tires, and brakes, and oil. Fortunately for me I only am putting like 6000 miles on a car in a year. I will have my old E36 to get me through crap weather too so any of those costs are really nominal on top of the fact I could afford those just fine. I also refuse to finance any car ever, otherwise I would be driving one now, so the occasional lights that go out or expenses are things just planned on when driving a sports sedan originally stickered at $70k+.

Re: house chat we are planning to finish our basement later this summer that will probably cost around $45-50 to finish, the house across the street is a 100% finished custom home and 1000 sqft more and currently for sale about $50k more than what our house can sell for. My wife is wanting to entertain the thought of moving because it would be more space and a nicer house, realistically it would only add ~10-15k more to our principle owed.

I don't want to move.

Turbo on the TDI is dying according to Dad's mechanic. He suggested replacing over rebuilding it. Dad drove it today and had no issues until he started heading home when he encountered the lack of power problem again. God drat it. I want this loving car but I don't want to dump any cash in right now.

I'm pretty sure that a popular upgrade for the TDI is to use the BorgWarner K04 turbo - the exact unit found in your MS6. You obviously need to do a big turbo swap for that so the K04 can find its rightful place in the VW. Now you're not dumping any money in the car.

Anyone have suggestions on cool POI's in the southwestern US? Particularly Nevada, Utah, etc? We're going to be following the old route 66 for a bit, do the extraterrestrial highway, and Zion/Bryce. Points of interest or favorite parks out there would be great to know about.

Oh man, I looked up the 'historic' Route 66 and I don't know how far you're willing to drive up into Utah, but Canyonlands national park, particularly Arches national park and Dead Horse Point have both majorly bitching roads to drive. Dead horse point has an awesome paved super twisty road that is fun even at 25 MPH. The site at the end is some thing you have to experience in person to believe. There are a couple of moderate hikes in arches national park that would be easy and nice to get out and stretch your legs. I'm a salt lake native and have spent many Boy Scout camps down in the greater Moab area. It's a ton of fun if you want to see red rock and canyons.

Doesn't Bruno have that one song where he sounds like someone from the 80's? That song is alright.

I don't know if he does, but if true it is not alright. I know many people claim keyboard warrior status but I would love for nothing more than a personal audience of Bruno Mars so I can have the satisfaction of personally telling him just how awful his "music" truly is.

We weren't feeling like making dinner last night since the kitchen and house were clean so we went to firehouse subs for some sandwiches. After taking my order I saw they had Apple pay and used it. I've only been able to use it a handful of times and I know that this kind of tech has been around for a while but drat if it didn't work so slick and market it in that sexy Apple It Just Works(TM) way.

I'm looking forward to getting a mini van. It'll be a Honda Odyssey when it happens. I have no interest in an SUV. When it comes to moving kids/people mini vans own.

I'd be down for a gang tag. Still bummed I missed out on a veridian dynamics tag of years ago.

The weekend has been good so far. Took Friday off of work for our 6th wedding anniversary. The in-laws stayed at our house to watch the minis. Ate a ton of delicious food, went to a movie (not road fury) we got a room at the only 5 star hotel in Utah. First time staying at a place that nice and all I can say was WOW that was awesome. Came home this morning and my blipshift order was waiting for me. My daughter was so excited to get a 'go-go' shirt like daddy's with a BMW on it. She points and yells 'Roundel Daddy!' at every one we see. I'm parenting right you guys :3:

Why is it so difficult to get an almost one and three year old to sleep? Even if they skip nap time. Basically I would like a Saturday do-over.

Yeah we don't normally skip naps and we were all about 'the schedule'. She chose to skip the nap despite her having the melt down which was our queue for the nap. She was in her room for ~40 minutes and then came out all chipper even though we tried to get her back down. It used to be a solid 8:30 night and wake up at ~7:30 but she's been slipping to 9-930 before getting everything ready and her in bed and her wake up times have been getting between 6:30 and 7:00. The little guy has been awesome though. He just drinks his bottle and 5 minutes of cuddle/rocking chair and he is down for the count. Sometimes he wakes up and wants a bottle at night but he's been sleeping through most nights for a while now.
