So the replacement trunk lid that came with my Midget seems to have its mounting holes threaded just slightly smaller than the other one... smaller than what Moss Motors thinks it should have, too. The bolts I ordered from Moss go in about half a turn before binding up. A trip through the hardware aisle at the OSH didn't turn up anything that would work either.

Now, since it's just slightly too small, would I be able to take a tap and re-thread it to work, or will I just totally gently caress it up?

But yeah, everything I've read seems to indicate that it shouldn't be whitworth. If it comes down to it I guess I could simply tap it out to something significantly bigger.

Well now I feel dumb, I tried again with those screws for the boot lid and, after hitting the hole with some PB Blaster, it went in. They were still extremely stiff to put in, but judging by the lack of metal shavings they went in properly rather than loving up the threads.

The new boot lid is cockeyed just like the old one was, though, so I guess I need to gently caress around with the hinges a bit.

Dude, it's really hard to watch you do this poo poo to yourself over and over and over. You're living paycheck to paycheck on a pizza delivery job and trying to get off the booze before it kills you, but you drove 70 miles to a concert, got drunk, just had to have that $40 t-shirt, just had to have that last shot, tried to drive home drunk, hosed up your car to the tune of at least a couple hundred bucks by hitting a loving concrete barrier while drunk driving and then driving around on the donut's rim. Not only that, but now you're going to miss out on a day's pay which you can ill afford when you have to buy a new tire.

drat the Crown Vic likes to break its rear end loose in the rain. I had an rear end in a top hat-puckering moment leaving the grocery store when I did my usual "gun it as you swing out the driveway" routine.

Pham Nuwen

Lunchtime, realized all the crown vic's interior lights were on.

I figure it's a door switch acting up again, go poke at all of them. No dice

Drive home to try and troubleshoot, guess I'll have to take a half day at work and fix this.

Disconnect the battery and start dicking around.

Realize the door chime isn't chiming, so it can't be the door switch.

Remember that you can twist the headlight control/dimmer knob all the way to the left to turn on the interior lights

Oops. It was raining last night so I had my lights on, must have twisted it when I shut them back off and didn't notice. I guess I should be glad it didn't cost anything to fix... since everything was working as designed.

Mbps chat, my internet connection is currently alternating between the 20/5 I pay for and something worse than dialup. It spends most of its time in the "worse than dialup" phase, of course. Sonic is sending me a new modem, we'll see if that fixes it.

I have definitely considered pulling out my modem and dialing one of Sonic's dial-in numbers which apparently they still have.

Assuming, of course, it's not predictable (i.e. goes to poo poo between 4-10pm, then works fine once people start going to bed).

:stare: I haven't seen one of those since 1996 or so. One of the best modems Supra ever made though.

Next thing I know someone is going to pull out a ZyXEL 16.8k (goddamn I paid through the nose for that thing... in 1993)

DSL. We'll see what happens when the new modem gets here. If it still sucks I'll raise hell. It's a shame too because I love Sonic so far. I've never had to wait for tech support, they're knowledgeable, and the prices are pretty reasonable.

Edit:

Regarding modemchat and other retro bullshit, if anyone wants to play around with setting up UUCP dial-up links, with the aim of eventually distributing newsgroups over the telephone lines, send me a PM. You'd need a Unix box and a serial modem.

(UUCP over TCP is also possible, so if you don't have a modem that's ok)

Well I figured out the fuel pump at least. There's a quick-disconnect point under the right-hand side of the dash, just before all the rear-end wires get bundled up and routed to the back. While re-installing the windshield, I must have disconnected that wire. Fucker fired right up once I got that sorted.

When I get home tonight I'll have to poke around and see if there's another disconnected wire under there for the headlights.
