OATH COMPLETE!! Here's the month's oath. I'm claiming the yellow bonus technical challenge for Monsieur Goldbug. A couple pieces of scatter terrain I've been playing around with casting. The cottage was a cast I had made from a failed mold when I started experimenting with casting buildings. Figured I'd paint the best cast from the bunch before I decided what to do with the mold. Here's a cast hill I've been playing around with. While I like the look of it, the slopes are too steep to be playable. Hill mk 2 is in the works! The models are NOT part of my oath, but this is what my movement trays were for. Putrid Blightkings and some converted chaos hounds. The tray in the back is destined for some Plague Drones

Oath Complete! All the little soldier guys are waiting for the school bus, excited for the first day of war. Backstory: "HEY! Settle down back there! Now listen up! I am Mr. Wilson, your bus driver. THIS is MY bus! I expect you all to behave like proper soldiers as long as you're on MY bus. Don't get any funny ideas, I WILL turn this thing around as soon as I hear the first 'Billy stole my iron ration' or 'Jimmy shot me in the foot'. Then the general will get pissed that a busload of recruits are missing from the battle, and I'll have to explain how you where acting like jerks. Then he'll court-martial you all, and you don't what that now do you? Good. Now... Which one of you is Johnny? You? I'm keeping my eye on you. Now, let's go, we don't want to miss the first day of war." Mr. Wilson turns to the controls and mutters under his breath. "I've been doing this for 42 years, and there's always a loving Johnny." Stuff done this month: The 6-pack!, Backstory and the bus challenge.

Oath complete! The gnomish Mage guy is for the May technical jurnal. I wanted to do a better job with him but tonight was probably going to be the last night I could paint this month so I had to start and finish him up at a tabletop quality. The shields and banners are a little bland because I have some transfers for them I am going to apply at some point. nesbit37 fucked around with this message at 02:49 on May 28, 2015 |

I saw the announcement of the sponsored contest, but forgot about it completely until it got mentioned just now. Could a mention be added to the first few posts somewhere? Maybe near the themes/photos/winners/etc lists? Especially if there are maybe going to be more of these.

Yes - KR is for June, future months for other sponsors that want to take part*. You can use any KR product (apart from their dice) *and that I/we can figure out things for - it'll be hard to do a sponsor month thing for our brush sponsor, Springer-Pinsel, because we won't be able to say for sure that anyone used their brushes

A thought about the paywall thing, would it help if we had some sort of an external page that show cased the oaths and judgements each month? We could then slap sponsor logos on it and potentially use it to raise the profile of the oath thread. Obviously you would still need to be a member to take part and things would carry on here as normal. It could potentially be something as simple as a WordPress blog in a gallery format.

Possibly a FB Group? We already have showcases for each month via Krush's Google Slideshows (which are awesome) so maybe it's a case of posting links somewhere?

I do have the wiki page links (which I do send to all prospective sponsors) in the OP, no idea why I never thought to use WordPress, because I literally manage 4 WP sites. The wiki page is a pain in the rear end to edit but it does have links to the spreadsheet when it gets going, the latest photo album and pics of the Judgements. I'll see how quickly I can transfer that over to a WP site, though. I've also thought about starting a Facebook group (I also manage a few of those), but didn't know what you guys would think about that. It would be a nice 'external' way to brag about your models and share top 3 judgements, and we have had a couple of sponsors ask about sharing stuff to their own FB pages too. Plus, it's a great way for all of us to 'meet' outside of SA, but I also know many goons actually don't like to do that. So I'll leave that up to you guys to discuss/vote on. Zark, I'll add your stuff to the UK/EU grab bag album for season 6, I must have kept forgetting to do that last time! Are you OK to post it from where you're at or do you want to send it to me to post out?

I would not want to link my SA identity with my FB identity, but a FB page still might be a good idea, just to show off what we're doing in a way sponsors can see, without being behind a paywall. A Wordpress site might be even better for that, though, since it doesn't involve FB potentially planting conflicting advertising onto the page.

I'd like to see a Facebook group, but don't want any random freakshow grognards harassing my family with murder-rape threats over my elfgame opinions. Is there a Facebook group setting that's semi-anonymous? Or maybe just avoid the thing entirely and do a Wordpress.

Anonymity is antithetical to Facebook's paradigm, unfortunately. Their whole bag is real people and their real names (which can be more effectively advertised-to. Always remember: you are not Facebook's customer, you are their product.)

I think if you make the group closed on FB that stops it from blasting onto everyone's newsfeed. Or that's how it works for the local warhammer groups I have joined. Now my work colleges and distant relatives don't know I am occasionally arranging nerd battles with my demons. I'm still fine with a wordpress or whatever if that would help our anonymity and still look good to our sponsors. Oh, and I better get an oath in soon. Such a crazy month.

OATH COMPLETE! Claiming this month's Theme, obviously her fashionable slicker and galoshes are quite yellow. Also claiming SPEED PAINTING! Under 2 hours, and that included time to drive to the train station to pick up my wife. OK. Not a brilliant paint job, but the details on this mini were a tad mushy, and I did it entirely with about eight different minitaire paints, and one kind of shagged-out brush, and I'm actually quite happy with how the yellow came out. I went for a orangish shade, and her face came out pretty decent too. I wanted white hair, but I shadowed it with sepia ink, and I think it came out bleached blonde, which is OK. I might try to take some better pictures in the sunlight tomorrow.

To keep the Oathing stuff in a separate post, just wanted to say about the Facebook group (not page), if we started one:
Hopefully that settles any fears (which seem to be mostly about personal privacy, which is understandable). For the record, the only IRL info that's been given to anyone regarding the Oath stuff is so that people can be sent stuff from sponsors, whether they are fellow goons or companies giving us awesome stuff. I'm happy to friend anyone on Facebook (so feel free enri!) because in my day job (and one of my side jobs) I'm fairly 'known' within our little niche industry, but I know this is a rare thing, and even rarer among goons of a certain disposition. OK. So about the site - I think I will transition the wiki page to a WordPress site for sure, although I can't say when that will happen. I've got a full-time job, painting commissions as one of my side jobs and a fiancee' who for some reason wants me to spend time with her, so I'll get to it when I get to it I 'know' WordPress, having run several of my own blogs/sites on there and managing a couple of others (similar to the FB pages). I think that about covers it...? Anything else? I'm not going to do anything right away so we can have a bit more discussion about it, but we are heading into a rainy weekend (surprise, Britain!) so I will likely have some time in the next couple of days. If we come to some consensus and general agreement I'll get started. krushgroove fucked around with this message at 09:18 on May 29, 2015 |

Sponsors will be able to view and link to it on Facebook, that's all. No one but goons can see this thread, so it's just a thing for sponsors to link to, in addition to the web site. Spreading the word via social media helps when there's more than one platform at work, for some (like Prodos) they're much more active on Facebook than their actual WWW site, for other companies they still update a lot via their website. Also, as a closed group you wouldn't be able to share pictures FROM it, but you could share pictures TO it. krushgroove fucked around with this message at 10:32 on May 29, 2015 |
