Vanderdeath posted:That doesn't particularly make it pardonable though. While the Uncle Buck thing is unrelated to the racial term, "black buck" has had a far reaching effect that's still felt today. Hell, look no further than modern pornography where the term is, A: still used and B: used to treat black men as an Other (something that's still happening across America in a huge way). I'm pretty sure the name recognition of "Uncle Buck" as a movie franchise has more traction among the general populace than the racial term. If they changed the name because they cast a black actor in the role, they wouldn't be trading on the movie's recognition anymore, it would just be "Comedy Vehicle About Sloppy Uncle Played By Comedian of Color" (Fall 2016) which has a bit less cachet. The larger question in my opinion, is who was really clamoring for a tv remake of a 25 year old movie? Must be the same people who really want to see Coach back on the air. ![]()

Vanderdeath posted:Jesus Christ, man. Well, thanks for raising our awareness about the problematic title of the new ABC network sitcom "Uncle Buck." I can assure you that I will not be watching it, and you can take full credit for making that change in the world, if you like.
