The american accents for the principle characters is because we tried to keep the original cast whenever possible, and the localization people made a choice back on W1 for all the main characters to have american accents. I can't speak to the reasons for it, but I suspect it was more marketing than creative (at the time there wasn't a lot of energy spent on the english loc because it was assumed no english speakers would ever play). But you can also rationalize it in-universe that the American accent that the witchers use is just a Kaer Morhen accent, (Geralt's Rivian accent is supposedly *very* unconvincing) and that Triss is speaking with a Maribor accent (I like to imagine that Maribor is fantasy Malibu). Dandelion is just a dandy, so he speaks however the hell he speaks.

The Nilfgaardians are intentionally all over the place, because the Empire is huuuuuuuuuuuge, but those from the capital all have dutch accents.

Technically, Mandarin is a spoken dialect. Written modern Chinese is split into Traditional and Simplified and no matter how you pronounce the hanzi it's still written the same way within the system you're using. The only reason the various dialects of Chinese are considered variants of one language rather than a language family is because they all have perfect textual inter-intelligibility.

Incidentally, this is why Chinese films sometimes have Chinese subtitles. It's not just in case there might be hearing-impaired people in the audience.

A bit of *my career* trivia, when I was working at Obsidian, Atari sent us free copies of The Witcher 1. But because :atari: they shipped us the copies intended for one of their taiwanese studios and vice versa. So my original Witcher 1 stuff is all in chinese.

The Crows Perch one and then Novigrad are the only actual problem areas. Anything else is pretty drat nearby to markers, and most of the furthest reaching quests have markers associated with them. Should just have one by the Baron's house that you unlock when you meet him, and a couple more in Novigrad, near Hattori and near Dijkstra.

The problem with Crow's Perch is that at some point in the Baron's questline, there are events and scenes we really want the player to experience and see from a distance. If we put it closer, you'd miss it. Of course, the solution is to just put the FT point closer and then when the player travels there during that spot in the quest, we intercept that and spawn the player outside instead. It might be momentarily disorienting, but I think worth the cost for the playability. But that's the kind of insight it's easy to have after it's released, but very hard to see when neck deep in bugs and literally nothing works. Like I said, next game, or maybe if there is a rerelease or something.

This makes no sense. If that were the case, why have any DLC at all? Might gently caress with people's saves (lol what?) Never mind the new haircuts and beard styles, multiple new witcher contract DLCs, gwent cards, HORSE ARMOR, etc. All of that was in Velen and it worked fine. If people had already beaten the game then why not just put the Wolf school stuff in Velen/Skellige like everything else? That way anyone staring over in NG or NG+ doesn't have to wait until 2/3 of the game is over to get the armor they want. It's a stupid decision and it forces people to re-use the Griffin/Bear/Cat stuff until near end game.

I'm a wolf school witcher. Not a bear or a cat, so what the hell? And then the Viper school gear is a slicker looking version of the Kaher Morhen starting armor you start with at the beginning of the game.

CDPR is pretty lazy and is rushing this DLC out so they can dust their hands off and say 'yep we promised 2 DLCs and we delivered ok get hyped about CYBERPUNK.'

I know right? Pointing out stupid stuff in video games is such an overreaction.

Alright so I'm on my second playthrough and Witcher 3 is amazing. The one thing I can't get my mind around is the crisis for the magic users in Novigrad. First of all , Witcher 2 left me with the distinct impression that the most powerful of them are megalomaniacs that nearly destroyed the world. So I'm not feeling bad when they get hunted down. But what about the presumably innocent B-league wizards? Why do they need Geralt or anyone's help getting out of the city and avoiding pogroms? They can use goddamn magic, such as, portals! Or invisibility, or shapeshifting! Well maybe some of them are just alchemists etc. How about they just stop wearing wizard robes, dress like a peasant and walk out the goddamn gate? The city isn't locked down to people leaving afaik. Last point: maybe you folks should have left for Kovir when the first witch hunters started showing up and not when they cover the entire city. The fact that some literal Miracle Workers can't afford the boat fare for a trip to Kovir blows my mind, how are magic users not all rich? :psyduck:

I don't think that most of them are actually that powerful, you may have a skewed perspective since all the magic users in W2 were basically demigods. But the kind of people that the witch hunters are going after by the time of W3 are more like the herbalist in white orchard than Triss or Yennifer. As for why people don't abandon their homes immediately when things start getting bad... people don't like to leave their homes and they keep telling themselves that it will get better soon, it happens a lot.

I appreciate the replies, it still sounds like what i'm looking for. I almost wish there was a way to just start Witcher 3 on NG+ if you are importing a character from W2 since thematically it makes sense based on Geralt's power level, but I've already beaten W3 so it's a moot point.

This may no longer be true, so sorry if it doesn't work, but I *think* that NG+ will be unlocked for you if you start a standalone HoS campaign. So load up a new HoS game, then exit and start a NG+. Again, sorry if it doesn't work, but it was a pet feature of the director, so I'd be surprised if it didn't ship.

Was the "free the tree horse before you visit the crones and you get the better ending for both the children and the wife" thing on purpose?

I don't know, but in my own personal experience I typically design one or two different paths; we keep to a very strict design philosophy that the world needs to be logically consistent. If there's no good reason to put a lock on a door, we try not to do it. If it doesn't make sense for a character to just despawn until certain arbitrary conditions are met, we don't despawn them. And what's cool is that we're getting better at it, though it's very labour intensive.

A question for you guys, have there been any good games in the last 2-3 years that do quests like us? I've missed a ton of games in recent years and I'm wondering if there's stuff I didn't see. Doesn't need to be narratively deep or in the same style, I just mean, really complex scripted stuff.
