Meanwhile, the central Gallian army pushed the initiative after recapturing Vasel. At the same time, the militia targeted the headquarters of the Imperial's southern advance. No poo poo. There's like already a billion ways to get sent to the firing squad. I don't need to tell HQ we lost not-pope as well. Why aren't we being punished? That's because Major General Isler's looking out for you. HQ wants the southern Kloden bases back from the Imperial army. We don't exactly have the manpower for that kind of operation. That's why the militia's on that. The rest of the southern army will advance towards Yuell. Your job is to get the red carpet ready for them. I take it we're supposed to infiltrate, then? As civilians. Should be easy, right? But posing as civilians is banned by the war treaty. Exactly. ...The Nameless way, I see. *Later that day* Are we really going to dress up as civilians? But that's violating the international war treaties! Is this true? A soldier must be dressed in their military uniform, carry identification, and armed to carry out their commander's orders. In other words, if you're not wearing the uniforms, you're not recognized as part of the military. What would happen if they didn't wear them? No different than an armed bandit. The treaty gives protection to civilians from both sides of the conflict. Violating and abusing this rule would endanger everyone. I see. That's why it's forbidden. Think about the consequences of breaking it. Mass-execution would easily spread because of fear around civilians hiding as soldiers. That's the Nameless way. We're already a bunch of criminals, so they see no difference in adding one more crime on our resume. Regardless, we can't refuse the order. Even for a group with no records, this is too much. And if we were found out, we'd be treated lower than prisoners. They would shoot us immediately without a trial! Then why do this?! This is absurd. Even planning it would be punishable, but to actually do it...?! How shameful...being in the Nameless instead of the army! Aside from all the upgraded weaponry and vehicle bodies, we finally get access to the Worker APC. Not as powerful as it was in VC2, as it has far less AP and 4 less capacity space. Also can't carry people so...I have no idea what it's for. Maybe for that one map that involves ladders and boulders...? Strong-Willed: Reduce interception fire by half. High Class Lady: Increase defense when walking on stone terrain. Lost: Decrease accuracy/evasion if alone. Panicky: Decrease anti-infantry under interception fire. Margit is a great addition to the team. Despite her low HP, she might actually be the most durable when running up to interception attacks. Her accuracy is sky-high, even higher than Gloria.

You know, I was really afraid that the game wouldn't make life in the Nameless seem all that bad. Like it would have a pretty grim concept but would fail utterly at showing how hosed up it was. After that war crime update it's like, yuuup nah, they're going all out. I kind of like how things have continued to get progressively worse so far. Hope it keeps getting worse, this mood is serving the game really well. Think this is one of the few times a game benefits from being a prequel because we know from VC1 that they're not going to earn some magical redemption and end the war themselves--that's all Welkin. If not for this being a prequel I'd assume that they eventually would prove everyone wrong about them and that they'd win the war or something. This setup works pretty well because when things go wrong for them I'm like "Huh, the game can't go for the cheap solution here due to canon." So I'm excited to see where this goes.

Canyon in daylight. Ace weapon is some lovely mortar canon. Next. It seems the Gallian generals give a good fight. Mmhmm, any good news, Dahau? Ah, First Lieutenant Agthe. Where is Zig? Hey! What did I say about calling me that? It's just "Lydia" around here. My apologies, a force of habit. *A boy runs up to them* I'm sorry for running late, Dahau! Punctuality is a military requirement. Remember that for the future. Yes, sir! Lydia, Zig. I want you two to lead a team to the south. And where exactly are we going, specifically? The harbors? Isn't that incredibly far from the frontlines?! These orders came directly from General Gregor. Is there a problem? Of course not. It's not like I'm going to face any real resistance from the Gallians along the way. Although, I was hoping to make a grand entrance with my special project...oh well. Yes, sir! These orders came from General Jaeger himself. He's leading his forces to the same area. It should be fairly easy to conquer, but he wants reinforcements just in case. Then leave it to me! And what about you, Dahau? Staying home and having a party? Actually, I have a summons by His Royal Highness that I must attend to. Oooh, are we looking at a promotion here? Quite the opposite. *Time passes* Enter. *Dahau enters, salutes* Captain Dahau, leader of special forces Calamity Raven, at your command. Spare the formalities. My apologies, I am still just merely a captain of a small squadron. I am honored that Your Highness has summoned me. I didn't call you up just to shower me with fluff. You are here to re-affirm your loyalty to me. You should know why, yes? ...I do not understand, Your Highness. Just declare your loyalty to me right now. What did you say? Soldiers such as I can only show true loyalty with victory on the battlefield. This wolf shall be hunting instead. You are mistaken. Not a wolf, but a dog. Ah, then I shall be a loyal dog of the Empire? Hmm...why the Empire and not under my direct command? It is because...I believe Your Highness will one day rule the Empire himself. Halt! You're still in the presence of His Highness! It is fine, Selvaria. He is free to leave. .... *leaves* Your Highness! How could you tolerate such barbarism? Because eliminating his rude manner is an easy task if I choose to. However, his ability would be an incredible waste if not eventually under my command. Were he not a Darcsen, he would already be among my council of Generals. Yes, sir.... A second free mission pops up after that scene, except this one actively affects the next main mission. It's a cool gimmick, because doing the side mission stops the constant shell zones. The mission itself is a base capture on the mountain area. Made mostly easier because I can finally buy the Heating Lamp which helps things out a bit. I'm a tiny bit overleveled from doing all the fragment missions, I think. I'm not sure if story missions actually scale or not. Huh, where are we going to buy those? There's a grocery store across the street. *Runs toward store* Hey, hold on a sec! *chases* Relaxing is how I ended up here in the first place. This is my punishment for losing that battle. Even if you say that, you need to calm down a bit. It's just shopping.... Do not underestimate shopping bargains. A moment's hesitation will cost you, dearly! If I can't maximize my shopping, how can I lead us to victory? I'm not sure the enemy cares if we got cheaper salt.... *Time passes* Did we really have to travel 10 different places to just buy salt and sugar...? Now then. Next on the list are baking soda and some wire. 56 wanted the wire for arts and crafts, right? And Amy wants the baking soda to wash the clothes. That's right. It's also useful for removing the acerbic taste of vegetables, and makes beans and meat more tender. I already got bought some, earlier. Riela, did you get something yourself? Hmm... *thinks* Oh! Shoot, I hope I can get it before we leave here.... *More time passes* Let's see...wait, a whip?! 23 says it's for horse riding. Or so she says. Hmm...maybe there's one at a pet shop? I see...I know exactly where one is! *runs off* There he goes again.... *More, more time passes* It was more expensive than I thought. Fortunately, we still managed to keep our shopping budget. Whew! It certainly wasn't easy. I hope they appreciate our work. Hold on. There's one more thing.] What? There's more?! Of course. You still haven't bought anything for yourself, have you? Oh...Me? There's still a bit of money left over. Call it a gift from me. No, really! I'm fine. Captain's orders. Okay, okay. Then...I just want... *A moment later* Yep! No one else knows, but I love collecting good-luck charms! Usually cheap ones because I'm broke.... Hoping to change my luck with them. I hope you know that there's no proof that luck increases from trinkets. Oh, but you're wrong! I have absolute proof! Eh? Tae fucked around with this message at 19:38 on Jul 5, 2015 |

This mission.... Is the exact same one from like chapter 2. And yet it took forever.... Because it took loving forever to find this idiot hiding in the grass. All for a goddamn Fencer weapon I can't even use yet. Anyways, I can buy flamethrowers now but they aren't the amazing weapons they were back in previous VC games. You have to buy a specific machine gun that has the flamethrower attached, it can only be used by Trooper Elites, and the sub-machine gun itself is by far the weakest. So for once, you actually have to think on who is the designated flame guy (It's currently only Kurt) with the important job of one-shotting bunkers and towers. Maybe we can ask the people around there about Yuell? That sounds reasonable. Let's check it out. *Nameless arrive at the civilian camp* So, this is where all the civilians retreated to. There's certainly less people than I thought. Isn't Yuell supposed to be a populated city? Thank you, Cosette, but please take a break soon. Don't worry, I will! But there's other people I have to help first. Let's see, who's next.... Uh, yes we are. Do you need something? Really?! That's great! We've been waiting for your arrival all this time! Hmm....I didn't expect such a rousing cheer for us coming. My name is Cosette, and I've been treating the wounds throughout this camp. Hey, Kurt. Maybe we should ask her about the city. Right. Cosette, can you please tell us what's the situation on Yuell? The situation? Well.... *A moment passed* Yes, the Imperials took over the city and made it their stronghold, barring the citizens from entering. So many families were separated during the war, but they won't even let us look for them. Civilians always have it the worst. *Back at the Nameless camp* Then let's stop this disguise plan! I don't want to give the civilians any more trouble. We still can't violate orders. Maybe try explaining the situation to change it. I'll try...but if it works, prepare for a fight. *A moment later* My name is 7 now. Oh, this cursed memory of mine. That's right. So why are you here? I'm here to update the situation about our operation.... *After Kurt explains* So you're saying that since there's no citizens, a disguise isn't needed? I am merely suggesting we take an alternate plan now. I don't really care how you do it. Just get the doors to Yuell open for us, whatever it takes. Understood. That's why we're back at the refugee camp to find any clues. Ah, Mr. Soldier! You must be working hard if you're back already. Cosette? Why are you still up? Don't tell me you've been working all night as well? Well yes. There's just too many injured and not enough helpers so... But if you keep working like this, you won't be able to stand at this rate. That's okay, because otherwise I feel like I'm letting people down... Cosette.... We need to get inside if we want to liberate it Hmm...there's a shallow sewer near my house. If I remember right, it links to an area right outside the market. Will that work? Yes, that's exactly it. Can you show us the way? Sure. You'll have to follow close, though. If you take a wrong turn, you could end up in front of the Imperials! Got it. We'll make sure to protect you the whole way through. Right! *Meanwhile in Yuell* And who are you supposed to be, kid? I am Second Lieutenant Zig of the special guerilla forces, on behalf of General Jaeger's orders. Really now? Did you not hear about them? They said we were getting reinforcements, but I didn't think it'd be a bunch of Darcsens. Our race doesn't matter! Watch your words! Especially from someone who can't even keep track of their patrol squad. You can't tell me what to do, you Darcsen whelp! Just be quiet and obey your superiors like good little kid. Hmph. You'll regret those words. *Meanwhile, in a different area* Good. Everyone, prepare for combat in the city! So there's another branching mission somehow for the battle of the city's liberation. Yuell doesn't exactly have a robust map selection, so it's mostly where you want to start deployment and the slightly different enemy selections. I picked A path because why not. Cosette is a guest unit, but she's just filler since she's going to be retreated at the first second of battle. Also, how did they sneak a tank into the sewer system..... Also side-note, apparently you can only get the Lucky Keys item (+20 Evasion) if you take the B path, but I don't want to reset and also evasion is meh compared to other stats. Positive: Increase defense under interception fire. Maternal: Increase evasion when near allies. Father's Dream: Increase ragnite healing and range by 50% Klutz: Decrease firing accuracy Yeah, so Cosette is a better shooter than half the Nameless. Guess that's why the academy accepted her. Cosette, are you sure you want to fight? Yes! I want to save my city as well! Don't worry, I received military training at school! All right, just keep in mind the dangers of the battlefield. Yes, thank you! I'll be careful. So much for the big talk of the army! We'll have to take care of this ourselves. You other soldires can just go back and hide in your warm, little houses.... Now let's see what this invading force is made out of. So this mission is to destroy 3 supply crates all bunched up in the Yuell armory building. They only take two shots from a Lancer to destroy, so they're not the steroid-muscle builder that we've encountered in the past. Zig is a Fencer that occasionally uses the order Forced Charge. Not really that special honestly compared to other boss units. In fact, despite being near the spawn point, he didn't auto-turnaround when Annika appeared and went behind him. Otherwise, it's a pretty easy mission with Giulio sniping all 3 supply crates with ease. What in the hell I've failed my mission. If only I was...Wait, are they the squad that Captain Dahau spoke of? Then next time, I'll definitely beat you! Calamity Raven, retreat! *The morning rises* You have my sincere thanks, Mr. Soldier. We finally have a home to return to, even though the houses have been.... Mmm..... Finally...I can get a tombstone made for mother and father. Finally, they can.... So apparently this is the battle that killed Cosette's parents. I mean it could be worse, we could've had a situation where the original plan sparked off the reason for the Imperials to start killing Yuell citizens. Yeesh. Cosette.... Let's go, Riela. But Kurt, we can help out a little more.... The city's in the army's hands now. Our mission's complete. Ah...okay. *Back at the Nameless camp* Yes, sir! In the end, things went a lot smoother than expected. We should hurry and leave before something else happens. *Noise heard in the background* You're the military, right? Please listen to me! Hmm? What's wrong? Stop! Don't let him through! *Avan runs toward Kurt* Let me see the captain! Please, or it might be too late! A kid? I am the captain here. What is it? Right now, an enormous tank is approaching my town! A what? What do you mean? You have to go immediately! I beg of you! Understood. Please give us time to prepare. It's an emergency request, and we're the nearest military forces to the situation. Should we help them? We can't go anywhere while Yuell's defenses are being set up, but you Nameless can go. I'll inform Command. After all, your speciality is being mobile, right? Understood. *Back at the Nameless camp* The attack was approved. We're moving out to Mellvere now. Thank you! Please hurry, my friends are fighting right now! Okay! Squad, move out!
