Dr. Wang posted:I don't know much about these Duggar folks, but I do know that I tend to judge people based on how they look. And Jim Bob looks like a real rear end in a top hat. Like, his facial features automatically tell me he's a shithead that thrives on having power over others. The more I see his face, I keep thinking he looks like that Beetface guy from the old Dollfucker thread but with an inverted mouth.

Lucy Heartfilia posted:Seriously, what sick twisted evil people think that without the threat of punishment by god every normal person would rape and murder all the time. and then they call other people depraved and sinful. Going from the research I did for a class paper, It's from one of the core Fundamentalist beliefs in the concept of Total Depravity which goes back to the Calvinist part of their roots. In short, since the fall from Eden, all humanity is predisposed to evil and resist God's word regardless of being granted Free Will and so only God's Grace can make a difference. So to these people, they are unable to wrap their minds around people able to live perfectly good moral lives without the Fundamentalist interpretation of God and everything that's not acceptable within their isolated culture is tainted evil in some way.

Top City Homo posted:its almost as though they are too stupid to make the logical leap to gnosticism based on this twisted world view Pretty much from their origins in the 1900s, everything in the Fundamentalist worldview is a reaction against modernism and any criticism of Fundamentalist belief is an attack.

Picnic Princess posted:I remember seeing videos of polygamist wives defending their lifestyle as being so awesome and wonderful but in reality they were just never given the option to actually see any other way of living, they were born into it and brainwashed into thinking their way was the best way. Same goes for the the Duggar kids. That's why they have to be home schooled and chaperoned constantly. If they actually experienced the outside world, they'd loving flee as soon as they were old enough. From what I've read around, any of those FLDS women end up needing outside help to not only escape their situation, but especially afterwards to not get dragged back into it because those communities have members in places of power. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a similar scenario with Quiverfull. For all we know the women desperately want to get away but simply can't because of how controlling the culture is.

MAKE NO BABBYS posted:They eat such garbage loving food, too. The earlier episodes/specials showed a lot of what they ate and it was allllll cheap pasta, frozen tater tots and Midwestern-style funeral casseroles. All empty, cheap carbs and cheap processed fats. You didn't mention the infamous ice cream cake they went nuts over. http://www.duggarfamilyblog.com/2010/08/world-famous-duggar-ice-cream-cake.html

Pvt.Scott posted:What the gently caress? Did I miss out on being molested as a child? How the gently caress is this a common occurrence? I guess I wasn't a tempting enough five-year-old. I should have worn tighter shorts and maybe stretched a lot before running around the neighborhood. According to a past co-worker of mine, every woman's been molested/raped as a child. When I told her I hadn't been, she insisted that I was abused but was still too traumatized to recall or admit it. I guess it was part of her coping mechanism to believe the reason it happened to her was that it happened to everyone.
