I think even here you should post some sort of identifying mark. I generally consider SA a pretty safe place to post WIP stuff but at the end of the day this is the internet and anyone could see it. it’s not like a watermark is even that protective, but it at least identifies the origins of it.

personally Im at the point where I always just stick my comic’s logo somewhere on the page but Im not really using socials atm. I just post stuff here sometimes when Im bummed that I’m doing all this work and no one is seeing it yet other than like 3 of my irl friends. i always feel corny doing it, but I think overall it’s a good idea for just about anyone posting stuff here. Last thing you want is something getting floated around with no credit or even a title to go off of.

I guess personally I can't imagine anyone caring about my works enough to want to pawn them off as their own, let alone me getting to see them pawning it off.

1. You’d be surprised
2. Don’t talk your work down!

It's just, you know, I've been posting my art in various social places for like 17 years now or whatever and I've never seen it happen once.

It doesn't necessarily need to be about deterring impostors or art thieves. There have been several times I've seen a comic page or a piece of art I liked & thought was cool, and then looked up the artist because I wanted to see more cool images. Statistically I can't be the only person who quietly does this. For this reason I've always been pro "put your name/username/legible identifying labels on your work"*. The internet is already too big for its own good, don't make it any harder for the people who want to find you to find you!

*artists with squiggle type signatures or incomprehensible logos drive me crazy. They only work if I know who you are in the first place, how am I supposed to google for this! and reverse image search has gotten astronomically worse.

That, too, is predicated on the idea that someone will share it outside of the places I already post it in myself, and I've simply never seen evidence for it. Like, sure, if you want to cover your bases with a bit of extra work, go for it, there's no harm in doing it, that much is certain.

But it's also fine to just not do it? I don't like doing it and all the reasons for doing it just aren't very compelling given my level of work.

If you are just doing something for fun it’s certainly up to you. I mentioned it to that other person because it seemed like they were in a spot where they are still trying to figure out what to do with it.

Got about 40 pages of my book done now. That first chapter/issue or whatever you want to call it was a doozy and in retrospect not how I would have started my first attempt at a comic lol. Yeah lemme just cover the last 200 years in 30 pages that should be easy. I don’t regret it though. Took six drat months (not full time obvs) to finish one issue and Im still going over it fixing poo poo. I finished it, and while the people who read it seemed really positive on it, I felt like I was giving off this vibe like I was on some “difficult” art poo poo which is really not what the comic is.

I was just trying to set up a bunch of world building so it’d be easier to write the hyper violent looney tunes stuff I had planned all along but I realized it was a really bad marketing tool because it’s basically the first 15 minutes of a movie than pans out to be something else. Just trying to finish my second issue now and then I want to see if I can get publisher interest or failing that, crowd funding support.

On the flipside, the second issue is 100% Looney Tunes poo poo and so far it’s just been so much more fun and so much faster to make. I can finally just let it be dumb instead feeling like every page needs X amount of information for the story makes sense and I feel like I’ve really kind of figured out the look of it and stuff.

Here’s the first 7 pages from the second chapter without context lol. I think Im pretty happy with where it’s going even if it’s stupid. Still need to fix a few things. Couple of continuity errors, but whatever.

Cool stuff, how are you handling the backgrounds and vehicles? Using CG reference, or photos, or actual models?

veni veni veni

For backgrounds, if it’s an easy perspective I’ll try to wing it, but for more advanced ones Ill usually rough it out in a 3D sketch program called Feather and then improv the details. I use the distort tool a lot to fudge perspective poo poo as well.

The vehicles are a mix of kitbashed real models and stuff I also made in Feather. I can’t believe I’m posting this one cause it’s frankly embarrassing but it’s also hilarious and whatever. Spoilered the reference for dumb, but it’s very homoerotic. I like how the final version came out though.

Cool. The line widths and stuff are very interesting, is it vector lines or just very specific drawing style? It looks sort of like the toon shader outlines in a 3d program but tweaked very specifically for the angle.

it’s just how I draw. It’s pretty much how I work on paper too. I start out simple and then add weight to the lines once I decide on a light source. Then once it all works I go in and do a very simple shading/coloring job that is mostly just there to further highlight lines I want to direct the eye to and hide ones I don’t want people to look at. Then I’ll hit it with some highlights and doodle on it to make it look less bland.

I completed another self-reflective work. Took me about two months from script draft to finish, 60 pages in all.

You can read it as one thing on my website: https://studio.tymoon.eu/view/3096

Wow, that's really great! A very frank expression. I like the plain honesty of your linework.

Thanks! I primarily chose the style for production efficiency reasons since otherwise the risk of me trashing the project before being done is non-negligible, but I think it does work out quite well for the sorts of stories I tend to write, too. Gives it a tenderness and softness that is really fitting.

I bundled the above story (Leaps and Bounds) as well as the three other related stories into a physical omnibus release!

And it's now available for purchase on ko-fi: https://ko-fi.com/s/7cf7e9433d
I ordered a batch of 25, but hopefully I can manage to sell them all.
