I don't know anything about Ark, I have been ignoring it for years by dismissing it as dinosaur Rust, but it's free now so... Is it possible to have a good experience with this game by just playing it as a 2-3 person PvE coop survival in a private game? Or is this truly like Rust in that the game is "really" all about PvP and bumping into idiot assholes on a big server?
