I'm feeling something new...something...I'm happy??!!
Someone should tweet that video back to MVP when TNA goes under.

Like I said, I suspect he deliberately rode the fence in the way he spoke so if TNA stays afloat (hah) he can point to the dirtsheet talk and say "I was right". If When TNA goes down he can point to his "maybe's" and "if's" and say "I never said TNA was going to stay, I was right." I outright refuse that a man with a Godzilla bust can be that goddamn stupid.

He's in it to make money to build a bar. Someone tell him that bar will be closed quicker than Dixie Carter reciting all the State Capitols she knows off hand. I imagine him in a few years, wearing a suit jacket over a tshirt in the bar, telling customers stories about his feud with Kane like a sad, punch-drunk Rocky Balboa.

Does anyone else find TNA to be more fascinating/insane than WCW ever was? WCW, for all it's flaws, at one time was loving enormous, it had the Wrestling world in the palm of it's hand and just let it slip through. That's incredibly interesting and really sad in a lot of ways.

TNA on the other hand is all the insane, absurd stuff about WCW's final years but just streeeeeeetched for over a decade. There's just SO MUCH to talk about. Every time I think I've seen the most idiotic hing TNA ever did something new pops up and surprises me. I really want a comprehensive documentary/book to go over the insanity.

V------ He's pretty hugely anti-union as I recall as well.

there's a level of excess with WCW's failures that is infinitely fascinating and will never be topped, imo

It really isn't. WCW had everything and lost it all, TNA never really had much and just kind of wasted a lot of money fruitlessly.

Yeah, both have such unique historic failures that it's really unfair or at least difficult to accurately compare which was more damaging

I think, from my perspective, the sheer volume of insane mistakes and stories about TNA sort of makes up for it never having the same level of impact WCW had. I guess I just find the fact that it lasted for as long as it did while never really doing ANYTHING of note fascinating. It should have folded years ago.

That was Bill Watts. Jim Herd was the pizza doofus who wanted Ric Flair to cut his hair and change his name to Spartacus. Also he came up with the idea of the Ding Dongs tag team, so he'd fit in with 2002 TNA.

:agreed:

As much as TNA fucks up, nothing will ever top WCW spending millions of dollars to pay people to do nothing. The Glacier outfit alone could have paid a TNA wrestler's salary for a year. 15 years from now, we will remember TNA as that lovely company that failed hilariously, but we won't revel in the minute details of sheer insanity that we do when thinking of WCW.

Consider "Your fired" vs. "Something left in the hood of my car." It's like comparing fingerpainting to Picasso.

Yeah, WCW's rise and fall (and dead cat bounce) was utterly spectacular to watch in a way that I think it will be hard to ever top. I don't know if the insane combination of conditions that allowed it to happen are likely to ever come together again.

WCW is more fun because all that insanity translated directly to the product, where it was largely just mayhem on the screen. Like the Attitude Era, it was a time of 90s excess that you simply won't ever see again.

This is some spectacular stuff, I'm only just hearing about it now. It's kind of a reverse of the Jay Leno/Conan situation: NBC stuck Leno in front of Conan then blamed Conan for bad ratings when Leno was putting on a crappy show and people weren't going to want to watch a talk show after a talk show, generally, so there wasn't much of a carry over of people watching NBC for around 3+ hours straight. DA is sticking RoH in front of TNA because it's way cheaper and TNA is failing all on its own.

Hopefully RoH just absorbs all of TNA's talent, money (through T.V. deals) and timeslot and keeps getting bigger and better. It would be refreshing to see a well-managed Wrestling company make small, reasonable steps forward, like Sinclair---->DA---->Spike instead of Spike----->DA----->The first radio only wrestling broadcast! I doubt we'll see a true rival to WWE anytime soon, but we could see a smaller scale battle between RoH and Lucha Underground at least, since only the lunatic fringe saw TNA as a real threat to anyone.

Edit: Also the new subforum title rocks.

Part of what makes TNA's mistakes so funny is the internet media & twitter detailing every little thing. If we had twitter, podcasts, all that jazz when WCW was dying it would have been so great.

SomethingAwfulTV becomes the legitimate home of TNA when the radio show and podcast fail and they have to resort to posting elaborate fantasy booking and match summaries on this forum and simulating everything in TEW. It's the only way they can hope to be the #1 fed in the U.S., after all.
