We've been fighting here all summer, and at this point we've established a strong position in southern Russia.

At this point the first half of our plan is nearly complete. We have suppressed or destroyed the Soviet forces and opened the supply lines to give us a fighting chance at Stalingrad. Now we will prepare for the fight there. Farther to the south, we're still encountering forces here and there, but we can likely charge our way to the Caucasus while mopping up with reserve and auxiliary troops.

Axis Turn 9: August 4, 1942

August brings to the front a new arrival, and quite a welcome one it is. The Tiger tank has more combat power than anything that either we or the Russians have in the field. It's only drawback is a cripplingly low fuel rate; on a large battlefield like this it's a significant liability, but we can't afford to not have at least a few of these in our core.

Our fight on the east side of Millerovo is going poorly, but more forces are coming from the west to handle it. We have already brought in a Tiger (new unit for the core) to lead the charge at Stalingrad.

Our best chance of success at Voronezh is to take down the KV-1's one at a time. Although this really isn't the best job for the Panzer IV. Luckily, Potatomanjack just got an upgrade (back in Stary Oskol).

The auxiliary units prove their mettle as Millerovo is surrounded and nearly captured.

Allied Turn 9: August 4, 1942

The Soviet tanks focus their attacks as well, and our Stugs aren't strong enough to give defensive support. The 1st Panzers are wiped out.

A brief counterattack from Krasnodar forces our infantry to pull back for the time being.

Our primary target in this region is the airfields, if we can take them. We shift forces to bypass Krasnodar and head directly southeast. We are seeing some success along the coast, which is encouraging.

After the loss of the Panzers at Voronezh, we fight back and knock out one of the Soviet tank units. Now we can probably hold one in place while attacking the weaker units defending the city.

The Tiger mmediately proves its worth on the battlefield.

At this point we've captured everything in the corridor leading to Stalingrad, and our forces will now be marching to take the city.

Allied Turn 10: August 9, 1942

The Russians don't want to just let us pass them by. They make a move on the Rumanians.

Our allies are prepared for fighting, and the attack goes nowhere.

The Tiger continues to crush the opposition.

The Tigers at Stalingrad are completely green troops. In the hands of an experienced crew? Total annihilation.

Our forces are prepared. The frontal assault on the city is happening at just the moment we're arriving to threaten the southern flank.

The battle farther to the south continues to go well.

Allied Turn 11: August 14, 1942

The Soviets aren't lacking for quality tank crews on their side, and they are still as good or better than our regular Panzers.

Tank combat in the towns is fierce, but we've nearly pushed the Russians fully behind the Don.

Voronezh finally surrenders as the foot soldiers join the battle.

Allied Turn 12: August 19, 1942

As our troops close in on Stalingrad, we discover that we are now in range of the Soviet artillery. Some of the auxiliary forces are also surprised by air attacks from the few remaining enemy bombers.

Axis Turn 13: August 24, 1942
Clear(Dry)

We appear to have opened up the entire region leading to the Caucasus Mountains. Aside from a small clump of AT guns at Kropotkin, we have not encountered any resistance.

Our first push across the bridges into the city runs into entrenched enemy positions. It's a good thing we have all our forces here ready to go, because we're going to need them.

Allied Turn 13: August 24, 1942

The Soviets repel the probe and their artillery rains down on our advancing forces. The final battle for Stalingrad is underway.
