I am in better physical shape than when I was active duty because I actually have time to exercise but it's harder.

I spent the peak physical years of my life - the years in which I had the best ability to build muscle, the best healing time - sleep deprived and staring into the darkness so an aging rustbucket didn't hit Arab fishermen too stupid to get out of the way while I sweated my balls off for some assholes who couldn't even defend their primary means of income.

This was many moons ago but my freshman orientation was when you tested out of things like remedial arithmetic and also registered for classes so you had to go if you didn't want to show up the first day in randomly chosen retard classes.

Our XO spent 2 weeks arguing with the planners who ordered this via email before they realized what they had asked for.

Then they asked for 5 helicopters and 6 crews, and changed the route to something almost as stupid, but at least possible. We were on the boat for about 6 weeks before they told us to go back home because our airframe wasn't needed

I knew every single thing that was happening up to the moment because the girlfriends and wives of the unit were calling one another reading the emails to one another and their SOs, who would then bitch about it in the shop.

The idea is that these units are made up of the only competent people in the military.
Kind of like how Audis are made of the only good parts from VW plants.
