She does say no assets are reused, and it's pretty obvious they are reused in the trailer, so maybe she's a really good liar?

Edit: OML, read the comments, everybody ripped the post apart and really hammered on the things we know are true now.

This thing also talks about 360 and PS3 versions being released a year after the 'next gen' version on the old engine too, sure that that makes sense. Totally. Developing them at the same time even!

So has there been any talk by Bethesda about armoring up that dog? Also I want to be able to make it look like a beagle.

Bethesda put up a blog post detailing their plans for post-launch content

Here are the cliffs notes if you don't care to click:
- Free Updates, similar to Skyrim (which added mounted combat and extra visual flair after launch)
- Creation Kit coming early next year, as always.
- DLC starting early next year, with a $30 season pass that'll cover everything. They aren't sure what it'll entail though, since they're still making the actual game.

The line about how these mods are available for Xbone and eventually PS4 give me pause, because modding previous Bethesda games and how it works seems absolutely impossible on a console, and makes me wonder if that ties into the expected retry on paid mods. They didn't mention the mods would be free, just the updates :v:

The Rift is supposedly scheduled for a Q1 2016 release.

No way in hell it gets official support. First person games are going to be among the last games VR will tackle (if at all) because they have to be remade specifically for VR.
Games where you sit in a thing work well, strategy games work well, first person shooters make people sick. Taking a game that works on a TV / monitor and kludging in VR support never works well either.
Then you have textures and model fidelity and engine performance and all sorts of other VR specific stuff. Someone will absolutely make it work with the Oculus and Vive but it's going to be gimmicky.

How do you even play a strategy game on a VR system, and why bother with VR if you can't play the one logical genre that fits it (FPS)

You play strategy games like you are an eye in the sky. Lean in, look around, fly around taking it all in. The stereoscopic part about VR is the 'wow' factor and it works insanely well with an RTS type game. The upshot is your brain is ok with this.
FPS are a problem because it's so convincing that your brain has real trouble with sitting down when it thinks you should be running. That and the way we make fps right now isn't realistic at all. Nobody runs and jumps around like fps characters do, nobody holds a gun on the side of their face and nobody has their head locked to the movements of their hands like characters do in FPSs (Arma being an exception).
You can't just slap VR on a game and have it work well, it's a whole new thing you have to make work.

That's how they've always done it. Skyrim and Oblivion had that one gameplay demo and that was it. I can't even remember what the demo for Fallout 3 and New Vega were.

People were talking about how it makes no sense that Fallout still looks like it's right after the bombs dropped but it's 200 years later, after I heard that Fallout is inspired by Mad Max it all makes sense. As far as we know, it's the same Max in all the movies. He was a cop before the nukes came down, yet just a few years later the entire planet is a desert and all of the buildings have completely vanished. People that should have been kids when he was a cop somehow don't remember anything before the nukes, and even people older than him somehow don't remember it either. I don't think Max remembers any of it either.

In Fallout it's the opposite, it's 200 years later and everybody acts like the bombs just dropped. There actually are people that were around before they dropped, and everything looks more like it was abandoned rather than had nuked dropped on them.

Mad Max's universe is intentionally vague though, they don't mention specifics, and up until Fury Road it wasn't explicitly stated that nukes had anything to do with it. The movies themselves can't all be joined up in any chronological line even because they are all over the place and they are better for it. They also don't mention anything about other nations or countries either, so we don't know what Europe or China or Africa or the Americas are doing in the Mad Max universe.

Fallout by contrast has taken up it's original look in the original games as a part of it's identity. I really don't think it's a conscious choice anyone is making, it's just has to look Fallout, which means sand, dead trees, Nuka-Cola and wowee-zowee ray guns. It's also Bethesda so it's easy to just assume they are incapable of taking the look of Fallout anywhere new.

This wiki thing is real old, and claims that the nuclear apocalypse happened before Road Warrior? Sounds pretty suspect to me.

There is also Miller's words themselves:

George Miller posted:

I like to call it a revisit...If you put a gun to my head, I’d say after Thunderdome, but it’s very loose. I can’t even work out the chronology of the first, second and third, let alone the fourth thirty years later.

The only reason I bothered to say you can't organize them is because George himself says he can't and to not really bother since it's just legend story things.

Azhais posted:

I stand corrected but to be fair it's a cave painting and kids making explosion noises rather than anyone saying 'nuclear'. Also everything after the actual 'thunderdome' sequence in the third movie is god-awful which makes sense since Miller dropped out.

Now we just gotta wait for the modders to come in and fix everything, like how you always will wear glasses or hats because they up your attributes or the half assed inventory system or the lack of weapon chassis or the base building mechanic.
The upshot to the half-assed-ness of Fallout 4 is the hard part for modders is already done. They don't have to add in so much functionality since it's already there, just needs hella refinement.

On that note, it's pretty weird and arbitrary which clothing you can armor up at the bench and which you can't. I assume it's got something to do with armor - like the reason I can't armor my Road Leathers is that you can wear regular armor breastplates over them - but that's inconsistent, the sequin gowns for example allow you to wear normal armor on your arms and can be armored up.

We've got a modding thread already going and the modding community for Fallout 4 is moving at light speed.
