Cause I swear to crap, if there is one thing I truly despise in Bethesda games or any kind of open world RPG, its babysitting weak player companions and being unable to make them stronger. I don't want a game long escort quest, I want to outfit my dog with a mind controlled laser turret and 3 inch thick plate steel, and then send him back to my settlement when I'm deep in the belly of a vault to go and store all the amazing stuff we found while I stay and find more. That dog is going to be invincible. If there isn't Doggie Power Armor DLC though I'll be real surprised.

Just surface details and aspects about the culture that we chose to remember. Throw in a cataclysmic, civilization-destroying event then you might lose a lot of the details along with your ~ideas~.

First person games are going to be among the last games VR will tackle (if at all) because they have to be remade specifically for VR. Games where you sit in a thing work well, strategy games work well, first person shooters make people sick. Taking a game that works on a TV / monitor and kludging in VR support never works well either. Then you have textures and model fidelity and engine performance and all sorts of other VR specific stuff. Someone will absolutely make it work with the Oculus and Vive but it's going to be gimmicky.

steinrokkan posted:How do you even play a strategy game on a VR system, and why bother with VR if you can't play the one logical genre that fits it (FPS) You play strategy games like you are an eye in the sky. Lean in, look around, fly around taking it all in. The stereoscopic part about VR is the 'wow' factor and it works insanely well with an RTS type game. The upshot is your brain is ok with this. FPS are a problem because it's so convincing that your brain has real trouble with sitting down when it thinks you should be running. That and the way we make fps right now isn't realistic at all. Nobody runs and jumps around like fps characters do, nobody holds a gun on the side of their face and nobody has their head locked to the movements of their hands like characters do in FPSs (Arma being an exception). You can't just slap VR on a game and have it work well, it's a whole new thing you have to make work.

Bethesda is the same studio that changed the cannon version of the Imperial Capital from a weird hellacious Roman jungle to Fantasy temperate vanilla stereotype in Oblivion. They will never go anywhere in Fallout that isn't sandy dead tree zone. The original Fallout was this thus all Fallouts will be this. They can't help it.

Yaos posted:That's how they've always done it. Skyrim and Oblivion had that one gameplay demo and that was it. I can't even remember what the demo for Fallout 3 and New Vega were. Mad Max's universe is intentionally vague though, they don't mention specifics, and up until Fury Road it wasn't explicitly stated that nukes had anything to do with it. The movies themselves can't all be joined up in any chronological line even because they are all over the place and they are better for it. They also don't mention anything about other nations or countries either, so we don't know what Europe or China or Africa or the Americas are doing in the Mad Max universe. Fallout by contrast has taken up it's original look in the original games as a part of it's identity. I really don't think it's a conscious choice anyone is making, it's just has to look Fallout, which means sand, dead trees, Nuka-Cola and wowee-zowee ray guns. It's also Bethesda so it's easy to just assume they are incapable of taking the look of Fallout anywhere new.

Sounds pretty suspect to me. There is also Miller's words themselves: George Miller posted:I like to call it a revisit...If you put a gun to my head, I’d say after Thunderdome, but it’s very loose. I can’t even work out the chronology of the first, second and third, let alone the fourth thirty years later. The only reason I bothered to say you can't organize them is because George himself says he can't and to not really bother since it's just legend story things. Does having the hunting rifle chambered for .50 make it considered a heavy weapon? I have the perk that ups non-automatic rifle damage and I can't seem to do near the damage I would do if I use it when it's chambered for .308.

The first mod I downloaded was one to strip the level requirements off of perks. The system is much nicer to deal with like this. Now we just gotta wait for the modders to come in and fix everything, like how you always will wear glasses or hats because they up your attributes or the half assed inventory system or the lack of weapon chassis or the base building mechanic. The upshot to the half-assed-ness of Fallout 4 is the hard part for modders is already done. They don't have to add in so much functionality since it's already there, just needs hella refinement.

Turns out if you sneak around the BOS airship and kill non-uniques stealthily you are still allied with them. The moment you kill someone named however you get marked hostile. Also you can get infinite fusion cores if you yank them out of the patrolling power armor dudes. You sneak steal their core, they hop out and then hop right back in and if you check their inventory again they'll suddenly have another core. You can keep doing this.

Bethesda prepares for killable kids in their games, they have death sounds and also gib properly. It's just a flag check. It's also required to kill everyone on the prydwen and being able to loot it. Even without killable children you still can and probably will murder children in the vanilla game. You can't escape it so easily
