Humbug Scoolbus posted:Fuller really does not give a gently caress about spoilers. One of the reasons I love the guy. To be fair, it's not like those would have been season-long mysteries or anything. There are plenty of spoilers that he keeps close to his chest, he just understands that not every little story beat has to be kept quiet. Like how last season we knew pretty early on from previews that Jack was going to fight Hannibal, but not why, when, or exactly how it would happen.

I'm actually curious to see how close to Hannibal it'll be, because there are a whole lot of dream and dream-like moments in the book that totally sound like some of Will's visions/dreams. I reread the book a few months ago and couldn't help but picture the kind of disorienting cinematography Fuller uses a lot when reading some of the scenes, especially with how often a character is described as being only partially there, like they're out of focus with reality. Should be pretty interesting, if nothing else.

Netflix/Amazon might actually want to grab Hannibal specifically because it's kind of a niche thing and will bring in people to their service that might not have otherwise signed up. There's also a lot of critical/online buzz for Hannibal, so there's a good chance that a lot of the (small) viewerbase of the show would gladly follow it to an online service. I don't know if they're falling over themselves to pick the show up, but it does make some sense and could do decently well for them if they can get it relatively cheap.

GrandpaPants posted:For a show with no viewers, it sure has a pretty vocal fanbase. Because a thousand people talking about something on the internet can make it look like ten thousand people care about it. See also: like 99% of online petitions/movements/causes that seem like they have a huge following and then miraculously don't end up succeeding or actually doing anything. In this case it's at least helpful for the show since streaming services actually kind of care about a show's online/social media following/support since a lot of those people are more willing to sign up for internet streaming services than your average TV viewer.

A bunch of studies have come out in the last few years and confirmed the feeling that more and more people are switching from traditional TV/cable subscriptions and going to online only streaming services. Ratings are pretty much down across the board, and Netflix keeps getting bigger and bigger. It's partly why we've seen a bunch of networks scramble to put together some kind of online subscription/service in the last couple of years. They know they're bleeding customers and offering them more things online is a more reasonable solution/band-aid then trying to find the next Walking Dead or GoT ratings/viewers monster.

I'm surprised SyFy isn't jumping all over this, it seems like it'd be a relatively cheap way for them to get a critically acclaimed prestige show, and the ratings would do just fine for them.

I think some people are conflating "I'm surprised <channel> hasn't picked it up" with "<Channel> will definitely pick them up and save them they have to it totally makes sense the show's not dead!" I'm just surprised that we haven't heard about interest from some of the more niche channels given the show's critical acclaim and low price tag. That doesn't mean I'm not fully aware that the show is dead in the water and will need an out-of-the-blue miracle to get picked up.

Yeah in case people haven't been paying attention or looking ahead, this week's episode is basically like a mid-season finale before they do the Red Dragon arc, so completely avoid the usual places if you don't want to accidentally get spoiled on how it all "ends" before they do a reset.

Perfect World posted:That was my immediate thought until she took the fork into her lap. Her demeanour, the hidden fork and the table setting suggests to me she's anticipating Hannibal and Will are about to re-enter the room and she's hoping she'll be able to stab her way out of the situation with that fork. Both interpretations are possible but it seems far less likely to me that she removed her own leg with enough medical expertise as to not die soon after and then prepared a gourmet meal with the appropriate table setting all while one legged. As opposed to all the other totally possible and realistic things that have happened on this show?
