It was kind of funny how the premier avoided anything that would answer questions from last seasons cliffhanger and then they run a preview that just up and spoils who survived.

Yeah, the end of the novel Hannibal has Clarice kidnapped by Hannibal, who then proceeds to drug her and turn her enough that she joins up with him and they run away together. It's the reason Jodie Foster refused to do the movie but then they changed the ending anyway. As for Silence, they could probably figure out a way to do something with it but last I heard the rights for it and any characters introduced in it are still tangled up with another (dead) production.

The Gideon Ripper stuff is a couple of things, mostly the fact that he's a surgeon and once he was caught Hannibal stopped his Ripper killings. He takes credit for the crimes when Chilton uses "psychic driving" on him to convince him that he was the killer, because Chilton wanted the fame of having figured out who the Ripper was. They don't go into detail what Chilton did but it was probably similar to the stuff that Hannibal later did to Will, just not as effective because you know, Chilton.
