Loving this show so far, I particularly like that they actually dealt with my main issue with the premise in episode 2, which is that everyone would have offsite backups which would make any data eradication meaningless.

This show is doing a great job with editing and cinematography. I'm loving the juxtapositions they use with advertisements and signs in the world and the usage of focus and lighting. All-around super high quality for a TV show on USA. This show had better not turn to poo poo, it has too much potential.

Also I have a feeling that drug dealer is coming back for sure.

I just noticed the game Mr. Robot is playing in the Arcade is called "Mallard Murder," presumably to avoid copyright issues, but still uses genuine Duck Hunt sound effects and graphics. Even the font is the same.

I took that to be another one of Eliot's delusions where he replaces the name of something with a more sinister equivalent.

This show has a LOT of similarities to Dexter though. Not that that is a bad thing though. At least 3 of the seasons of Dexter were some of the best TV I have ever seen.

I hope this show keeps up it's momentum, but I don't see any sign of it turning bad yet, this episode was a bit more flat than the last too, but that's definitely not a reason to discard it.

This plus the where is my mind cover blew my mind.

I get it now. Sam Esmail knows he is ripping off these other works, but he doesn't care. He is stitching them together into something new. This show is part American Psycho, part Fight Club, part Dexter, part House of Cards, but the whole is greater than the sum of it's parts. I think this show is going to really turn out to be amazing.

Speaking of weird lines in this episode, what was the deal with the kind of awkward out of place lines about the family that now owned the house that was Eliot and Darlene's childhood home. Something like "That whole family is weird, especially the Dad" and later "Oh poo poo here comes weird Dad."

It just seemed really strange and out of place, was it trying to hint at something or set something up?

I actually hope they don't go this way, since it's very much the "status quo" option. A much bolder course would be to really go through with it, and see the aftermath of F-Society "saving the world."

This is what I am hoping for in a big way. I think that's the boldest direction the show could go in, and would leave the next 4 seasons open for a LOT of interesting dystopian cyberpunk plot lines.

At this point I have enough faith in this show that the ending won't ruin it, but I think it's definitely possible for them to not be as ambitious as they could.

In fact it was renewed before it even started airing. I think USA has a lot of confidence in this show, especially considering what it has managed to get away with already.

My biggest fear for this episode (and now for the next season) was that they would puss out and have Tyrell show up and save the day with the encryption key and reset everything back to zero. I am starting to think though that they actually have no intention of doing something that lame and want to follow this chaos as far as it goes. I love it.

At least on the first watch I felt like White Rose was working against fsociety. Now though, I'm curious because she went to the mansion presenting as a man, and that might suggest that White Rose is hiding aspects of her personality from the Illuminati type guys. Come to think of it were there any powerful women in that scene or were they all serving drinks?

I don't know, I doubt White Rose's motivations are as simple as not being accepted gender wise, this show doesn't handle anything simply.

This show is definitely very gender conscious and I can't get a bead on whether it thinks that high corporate is egalitarian or sexist. On the one hand no one seems to bat an eye at Angela being a conspicuously feminine woman in a room dominated by men, on the other we have a woman being literally murdered at a dinner party, and Terry Colby telling Angela to gargle his balls. The CEO of Evil corp was very open and respectful to Angela, but like you said, there were no women present at the illuminati party other than notably attractive waitstaff.

If they're encrypting but want to provide continued service, they need to see the private key. You need that key to encrypt *and* to provide continued service of post-encrypted materials while it's encrypting so there's no noticeable service interruption at Evil Corp.

edit: Or maybe they just didn't bother. What is the size of the data that catalogs most of the world's debts anyway? How long were they encrypting? Less than 3 days? What's Evil Corp's response time to service downtime?

This is why. If you start batch deleting or overwriting things someone will catch on when stuff stops working and take their systems offline. If you instead crypto the entire drive slowly while keeping the encryption key in memory and passing all file reads to the encrypted sections through your rootkit which silently decrypts it, you will have the time necessary to get EVERYTHING. Then you delete the encryption key, write over it a few times for good measure, and everything goes tits up instantly.

Disks rated at Top Secret or similar clearance are treated differently. They are usually physically destroyed, and the only reason you'd wipe them beforehand is to protect against loss or theft of the disks on their way to the press/furnace.

I suspect a lot of the reason for that isn't that they think that anyone could ever recover the data, but that the cost of a single hard drive compared to the damage that could be done by a leak of top secret data means that they aren't ever going to take that chance.

The scene where Evil Corp dude asked her our to dinner was amazing. Something about how she kept a perfectly profile angle while rejecting a soon-to-be-sulking billionaire in front of his million dollar painting just hit so perfectly.

I find all of the scenes with Angela just so unnerving so they are clearly doing something right.

It's a cool concept but waaaaaay too buggy. I got stuck at the part where Henry Cohen goes off work.

The game gets points though for giving me actual work related PTSD with dealing with some of the incompetent IT people who keep loving up applying the patch to the datacenter .

In life imitates art news, Trump recently remarked to a reporter that he made the decision to bomb Syria over cake:

" I was sitting at the table. We had finished dinner. We're now having dessert. And we had the most beautiful piece of chocolate cake that you've ever seen, and President Xi was enjoying it. And I was given the message from the generals that the ships are locked and loaded, what do you do? And we made a determination to do it, so the missiles were on the way."

Which reminded me a lot of the scene where Terry Colby tells Angela in detail about how they were eating shrimp cocktail when they made the decision to cover up the toxic waste leak.
