Can someone put a good thumb on exactly what movie or movies the first song reminded you of? It's like if John Williams, Danny Elfman, and Philip Glass had a three-way. There's a bit of Star Wars and Home Alone in there but I still feel like it very specifically sounds like 1 movie and I cannot freaking figure it out.

Do you mean the music when Elliot dons the mask? Cuz that's Neptune, the Mystic from Gustav Holst's The Planets. When the title card pops up, it transitions to Mars, the Bringer of War:black101:

I think it's more likely than not that Elliot is voluntarily admitted to some sort of halfway house or something, but I'd love it if it turns out he really is living with his mom and all the clues are just red herrings he's playing up for the audience because he's still pissed that they figured out Mr Robot's secret and didn't tell Elliot, so now he's just trying to gently caress with everyone.

Question: The scene during the "Previously on ..." lead in where White Rose is reading over the documents and speaking in the Mandarin everyone had a problem with. Where was s/he? Either White Rose is the worst kept secret in China and all those guys are cool with the a key member of government being the leader of a terrorist hacker group or she only messes around with genders when she's in the States? It was such a weird uneasy scene.

I'm 99% certain it was the same room she takes Dom to in this episode.

Now for some crazy speculation that's almost certainly not the case: Tyrell may be alive, but the gifts and phone calls Joanna keeps getting are actually from Scott Knowles or someone else from Evil Corp hoping she'll say something incriminating over the phone and/or just to mess with her for revenge.

They already think Tyrell did it though. Wouldn't finding Elliot in that car actually help Tyrell's defence. i.e. Elliot framed Tyrell for everything and held him hostage somewhere.

Keeping the attendant quiet can only really help Elliot. Also what is the deal with the Tyrell's manservant? He can't just be a paid goon.

She probably figures Elliot knows where Tyrell is, and if the feds learn he was hanging around in Tyrell's car around the time of the hack, they'll bring him in to learn where Tyrell is. Tyrell was instrumental in keeping the infected server up and un-honeypotted and already a suspected murderer, so if anything Elliot would throw him under the bus, not the other way around.

Of course, then you have to wonder why Joanna doesn't have driver goon grab Elliot himself and get Tyrell's location/status from him. Maybe another point for institution theory, Elliot being out of reach?

All of the episode, probably the rest of the season too.

The rest of the season is a sequel to ALF's cliffhanger ending, as Elliot hacks the Air Force to free ALF while Mr Robot glowers in a corner and rants about fast food and debt slavery.

The first season was forever ago....why is it a secret that Darlene's ex knew Angela? Wasn't the malware that Angela installed because of Cisco's blackmail the entire basis for Elliot finding about F_Society?

Elliot found out about fSociety in episode 1, Cisco doesn't show up until episode 2. The disc he gives Ollie and Angela are how the Dark Army found out about Gideon's honeypot.

I'm not sure the staredown with Cisco and Angela is supposed to be about keeping it a big secret (though Darlene doesn't seem to realize it was Cisco who blackmailed Angela in the first place), but more about Angela putting aside her emotions like Price suggested a few episodes ago and working with him despite the fact his actions got her into this mess to begin with.

Um, I don't think anyone in F Society except Elliot knows that the Dark Army blackmailed Angela. But now Angela might start to piece things together. She's doing this thing to help Elliot and suddenly it turns out that it involves the guy who blackmailed her.

Darlene should know, she holds it over Angela to get her to help with the hack.

I'm pretty sure the dude who leads the rape gang is also the dude who talks about beating an Indian shopkeeper in Elliot's church group. I guess God actually wasn't standing by him after all.

I feel bad for Cisco. First he stands up for his fsociety buds and gets a needle under the nail, then when he keeps watch over Darlene for the DA he gets Mickey Mantle'd. Guy just can't catch a break.

What was that entire "test" scene with the girl and Angela about? And the dying fish and poster? I did not see the reason for it at all.

Unless it was like a Voit kampff test?

It's like a Voight-Kampff test designed by the replicants. All the questions are supposed to be answered with honest logic and an absence of emotion, and at the end a defenseless animal dies.

I guess I'm missing something about the Wellik-phone reveal. When Elliot traces it and the goon says to ignore anything coming from that address, doesn't the next scene take place at the house of the attendant he murdered? Pretty clear editing there so why all the confusion over the address? Although it seems clear that someone else was paying that guy to do it, the address itself is meaningless info since he is already dead. It fits perfectly with Scott Knowles paying to harass Joanna, and she ironically kills the man who could have traced it back to Scott.

It was the Feds and Dom breaking into Cisco's apartment, not the attendant's.

You're right, after the rewatch I saw Cisco's face on the badge (real name Francis Shaw, Shayla's actress' name).

In that case what was up with the editing? Those two events had nothing in common but were clearly being juxtaposed, and Elliot would have recognized Cisco's address. The only other person+location we've seen that the bodyguard would dismissively sigh about is the guy he murdered so that still seems plausible.

It's something the whole episode does, intercutting two or three plots which may or may not have anything to do with one another, in order to increase the pacing and make it feel like everything is happening at once to better reflect the net closing in around Elliot, Angela, and Darlene. Most episodes seem to stick with long scenes that stick with one plot before moving to the next, but because that one was building up to the Lupe's shooting, it kept bouncing around to raise tension and give the overall plot more of a runaway train feel. Cisco's apartment had nothing directly to do with the phone. It just showed that while Elliot is doing this, Dom is getting closer and closer to his sister, and intercutting them drives this home better than otherwise.

Also, I'm thinking the location might instead be Scott Knowles's place. The driver has been there, so he'd recognize the address, and it would explain his confusion.

Elliot is basically hacker Jesus, and his prison stint was his 40 days (or 87, but who's counting) in the desert.

Yeah, the idea is maybe Knowles is either loving with Joanna as revenge and/or trying to get something incriminating or hinting at Tyrell's possible whereabouts from her.
