Haven't played this in a long time. If you enforce the union with France as England and inherit, do you become England-France with accepted cultures etc. or more like some kind of super England?

How do i destroy a fort, and do you recommend doing it if it is in the middle of your nation (with only primary religion and culture provinces surrounding it)? Will mothballing half the cost?

Also, any particular reason i should culture shift to Greek as the Ottomans other than as a gimmick?

I don't think the game has really changed much in any non-obvious ways if you are used to playing paradox games, and for the new stuff this thread is very helpful with any questions that come up.

Is there any benefit to having two forts with overlapping zones of control?

Huh, i don't understand why are you loving administrative ideas so much. Can't really see any great bonuses in there? And quantity also seems bad if you already have plenty of manpower, compared to other military ideas that will make you win more battles and lose less men.

If you're the leader of the HRE and remove a heretical state as an elector, can you give the elector title to yourself or does it have to go to someone who's not an emperor? Basically i have to become an elector as Brandenburg so I can form Prussia without leaving the empire.

Emperor can't make himself or vassal an elector, and AI emperor heavily prefers small theocracies when picking who to give electorate, it also hates large kingdoms so much it'll rather stay with insufficient elector number.

Do the religious war shave a hard end date? It's 1656 and my HRE game is still stagnating. The Protestants won't declare it since the Ottomans threw in with the Catholic league, making the balance of great powers too even.

If the Protestants haven't declared the war in 30 years there's a chance Catholicism becomes permanent, it will happen in 1625 at the latest.

Mercenaries count towards your force limit, right? :downs:

Edit: Oh, you're in 1656... Either it has changed, or there's something preventing it like a war, or it's a bug i guess.

You need 100% galleys that you can block the Bosporus with and hope the Ottoman army starts trapped in Asia Minor. Don't think any major powers will ally with you until you get big. Oh, and the Ottoman navy is larger than your forcelimit so keep building until you know you will win a naval battle.

Is it this one?

tag = NED
}

NOT = { has_province_modifier = holland_polders }

For as long as I've played this game, I've never fully understood trade. Do you get any income from trade nodes you do not have a merchant collecting in, or transferring trade to a node you are collecting from?

For example, in Venice games I'm always sending ships to protect trade in weird places, and I've no idea if that actually does anything for me at all.

You don't get any income if no one is collecting, unless it is your capital trade node. You will make money from transferring trade to a node you are collecting from because more trade will go trough there.

I think it's best to protect trade in wealthy trade nodes that you are collecting from.

Does anyone know which year I can expect a province in Japan to convert to Catholic?

Edit: Ottoman republics own, btw. In the mid 1600s the current Padisha's heir lawyered his father into stepping down and turned the Empire into bureaucratic despotism. Switching to a regular republic with elections meant I could keep the Janissary bonus the rest of the game with no problems, until I got too greedy and collapsed into an absolute monarchy, but happily for me that was just in time for the revolution.

Hmm, to prevent the Janissary decadence disaster you need 5 in a skill, but Republican leaders start with just 4. Did you easily manage to prevent the disaster in time for a reelection every time, or am I missing something else?
