I've played the poo poo out of this game back in the day, had regular deathmatch duels with my friend over network. You die either after your "total" hp pool is emptied or if both your legs or head are cut off. Damage is calculated by the impact of your swing sort of, the harder you do it the more it will do but it's wonky as hell.
