That punk friend is going to cost his all star friend a fuckload of money, but I imagine that's the point of having him in the show.

This show makes me want to strangle Reggie. I'm feeling bad for a financial manager arguing over million dollar contracts in Miami.

No, Reggie is perfect. He's exactly the worst person in the world of Marcus to listen to because Reggie is smart enough to talk like he sounds what he knows about but just dumb enough to think they don't have to play by the established rules and are special. Someone already mentioned, securing the $30-40 million is by far the most important thing to do, because all it takes is one bad hit to end your playing career.

I see this season playing out as a semi-victory for Reggie until the second to last episode where Marcus goes down hard and there's no guarantee contract in place. Then The Rock is out 300k and Reggie has hosed over dozens of other people.

Whoever said that Reggie is the most hate-able motherfucker since Joffrey hit it on the head. I think what makes it worse is that Reggie is realistic and a lot of people know hangers-on that would do exactly what he's doing if they were in his position.

For me the big thing is how Reggie always try to paint everything in racial terms. His friend is going to get tens of millions of dollars to play a game and every little disagreement brings Reggie back to the "oh so white people get better treatment in this game?"

It's pretty obvious that Reggie is going to talk Vernon into not paying The Rock back the $300k. That'll probably be when poo poo really goes down.

That was me, and I'm on board now. This episode not only brought in health issues it also had more character development.

And a Ferrari kidnapped and left up on blocks.
I am bigger than my problems.

That guy getting hosed with is easily reaching a point where his character can either be the bigger man and management tells the rest of the team to stop or get hosed, or he snaps and beats the poo poo out of the guys that are provoking him.

It'd be nice for it to go the first way, because it's down to franchise star vs. close to retired superstar on his last chance and it'd be hilarious as gently caress to watch Charlie from West Wing own a couple of arrogant punks.

I really like Charlie from West Wing here, he's really selling his position. Like this show even more (might help that I'm watching it a couple of episodes at a time). Its smart, but subtle about it.

It's amazing, there's this subtle undertone of the massive amount of power he has but it hasn't been outright shown. He is the guy who can walk into a room and tell a multi-million franchise player to pack up his poo poo and leave. So far he's just trying to keep the old school star happy but given the level of hazing it's pretty close to him showing up and outright firing the low performers who've hosed with said star and intimidating the current stars into toeing the line.

The racial undertones are part of what's drawing me to the show. Ricky (black, unemployed) shows up at the white coach's boat, gets treated like a boy, lectured on his life choices by white Czonka and called an rear end in a top hat by great white god Don Shula. The only thing to add in that scene was Dan Marino eating an eggplant sandwich on the bow. With only one arguable Uncle Tom, everyone with power on this show has been white. Reggie is an rear end in a top hat, but I think there's plenty of not-so-subtle racial commentary going on in this show.

There are tons of racial undertones in the show and sports in general, but Reggie is next level with his constant "it's about being black isn't it" whenever someone tells him to be realistic.

Well said. What is his position anyway? Talent scout? Assistant coach?

As far as I can tell he's the GM or the guy running the place while the GM is off on his boat. At the very least he can end some people's careers for causing him trouble.

It's pretty much how the sport is run unfortunately, so I hope someone doesn't decide to jump all over HBO for it. Hell Cam newton had to have a meeting with Richardson before the Panthers drafted him and he gave him a talking to about not getting tattoos and diamond earings and poo poo like that.

It's pretty hosed up but every incoming player should be getting a seminar/meeting about their new financial status and what they need to do short and long term. The 30 for 30 ESPN highlighted how completely unprepared most players are for the realities of hundred of thousands of dollars being immediately available to them and how some of them don't even open bank accounts.

Willing to bet that's going to come back to bite him at some point. Either the mysterious #81 isn't his actual dad, Ricky never called him to begin with, or the dad did reach out at some point and Ricky rejected him out of spite, or Ricky's mom was lying about his dad because his real dad disappeared for some reason (prison, already married and the mom was a mistress, etc.)

I'd like for it to be true. Ricky has been little more then a comical exaggeration at this point, his character desperately needs some emotional depth.

Reggie's getting a bad rap. He's a dick, but he's looking out for the guy he grew up with and has this preconceived notion that the world of sports is racist as hell and his friend is always going to be undervalued and shafted on money deals.

Maybe there's more to it but while Reggie is a huge prick, he's not malicious or vindictive. He doesn't trust all these new guys in their expensive suits to look out for his best friend's career to their fullest. He's arrogant, naive, and completely out of his element but his biggest concern is getting his buddy the fat paycheck Reggie thinks he's worth.

Isn't 10 the HBO standard? They haven't done a 12-22ep season since season 3 of Entourage and that was split into half. LWT doesn't count because its a live news program.

Yeah Entourage got pretty dark in the last season or two. I recall an episode where Vince pretty much gets held hostage by a suicidal guy who ends up shooting himself.

Uh, no, the guy was just being a prick about a movie script, had a breakdown and locked himself in the bathroom while Vince tried to talk him down. The crazy guy pulls a gun from under his sink and shoots himself in the head.

The next episode has Vince trying to pass a drug take using a fake dick and its played up for comedy. It's like it took the writers 8 seasons to finally admit no, Adrian Grenier literally can't act anything other then "I'm a famous chill douce movie star"
