Director: Hidetaka Miyazaki / Isamu Okano / Yui Tanimura
Website: US | JP
Release: April 12, 2016 (NA/EU), March 24, 2016 (JP)

Dark Souls III is the final entry in a series of dark fantasy action-RPGs by FROM Software. The series is known for its atmosphere, complex lore, replayability, haunting enemy design, and challenging bosses. The online mechanics of Dark Souls include both passive elements (you can see ghosts where others died, and read messages on the ground from helpful souls) and active PVP/co-op (other players can invade your game world). Dark Souls III introduces Weapon Skills, unique abilities for different weapons that allow melee characters to utilize mana just like sorcerers and clerics.

($80, releases 3 weeks earlier, english NPC dialogue, no english text)
(11AM EST/8AM PST @ March 23, 2016)

1) Make a Japanese PSN account, follow this walkthrough, you will need a real e-mail address that you can check to verify your e-mail
2) Set your Japanese PSN to primary on your PS4 (provided your main account is also primary, this will let you play DS3 on your main account using your main PS+)
3) Order the 5k and 3k yen PSN cards from http://www.play-asia.com/search/PlayStation+Network+Card+japanese - these cards are delivered digitally, use a real e-mail
4) Go to the Japanese PSN store and scroll to the second-to-last option and select that option to enter your PSN cards
5) Find the Dark Souls 3 PSN page and preorder it, I found it under the main splash section, you should not have to search for it (try not to get discouraged when you have to click on different buttons each screen to find the confirmation button)
6) Game will download on 3/20 and unlock on 3/23 in the US http://www.torpeden.se/DKSIII/JP/
*OPTIONAL* Install the Google Translate app on your phone and try to take a good enough picture of item text on your TV for it to spit out a super-high-quality machine translation for you.

Beginner Tips
+ It pays to stop and examine your surroundings, and to listen for signs of enemies.
+ Your starting class only determines your starting equipment and stats. When you level up, you can choose any stat to raise, and you can change equipment at any time.
+ Pyromancies have intelligence AND faith requirements to cast.
+ Both magic-using characters and melee characters may need focus points due to the addition of Weapon Skills, melee attacks that consume FP.
+ Restore HP with an orange estus flask, restore FP with a blue estus flask. Your allotment of orange/blue estus can be configured at the blacksmith in the main hub.
+ Regular attacks for weapons vary based on how you are holding them and your actions immediately prior to attacking. To start, each weapon has a light attack and a heavy attack. The nature of this attack changes based on whether you are one-handing or two-handing the weapon. There are also variations of the light and heavy attacks that you can create by: 1) running then attacking, 2) dodging backwards then attacking, 3) dodging forwards then attacking, and so on. Pressing forward+R2/RB will cause you to do a jump attack. When you get a new weapon, it's a good idea to test out its entire moveset. In addition to regular attacks, you can use Weapon Skills, parry/ripostes, and backstabs with weapons.
+ Activate your Weapon Skill (consumes FP) by pressing L2/LB. If you have a weapon in each hand, pressing the Weapon Skill button will activate the skill for the weapon in your LEFT hand. If you are two-handing a single weapon, the skill will activate for that weapon.
+ Some shields can parry enemies. Read the shield's item description to find out if it can parry. When an enemy is attacking you, press L2/LB to parry them. The enemy will stagger, and you can riposte for high damage. Not all enemies can be parried.
+ You can backstab enemies. Circle behind them and attack their back to initiate a backstab for high damage. Not all enemies can be backstabbed.
+ Try to always have a ranged option available, whether it's a bow, a throwing knife, or magic. You can use ranged attacks to pull enemies away from dangerous or uncertain environments to safer fighting grounds.
+ If you are coming from playing just Bloodborne, be aware that most weapons will not rally/recover your HP if you hit an enemy with them.
+ There may be hidden paths behind illusory walls. Hit walls if you think they don't fit in. If there is a message on the ground that says "illusory wall ahead" or "hidden path ahead", there's definitely an illusory wall there.

http://www.hardcoregamer.com/2015/06/16/e3-2015-worlds-first-dark-souls-iii-details-revealed/154333/
The demo begins looking at a castle. A Sword and Shield are shown, as the game is presented on the Xbox One, and then a quiver of arrows appears. The game takes place inside the big castle from the open. The wind blows cloth and wildlife. This is just the alpha build, but it gives us a glimpse of what we can expect.

Bonfires return as base camps. Our hero walks down stairs and faces some undead skeletons. A few of the skeletons attack, and he blocks and dodges around them, eventually defeating them. Dragon corpses litter the castle. Ash from the dragons’ bodies is blown away by the wind. The player goes into a dark tower, uses a torch. Torches have no limit unlike the previous games. He is ambushed and uses a ladder to go to a lower level. He can offer flame to graves, as Graves can be used as torches or as landmarks. Graves also help unveil the back-story of the game along the way.

The player uses a long sword. Can hold it single-handed or two-handed. Once in ready stance, he can use special heavy moves to deal lots of damage or break shields. The player attacks a shielded enemy guard with ready stance. The guard is thrown off stance, allowing him to kill it. He avoids a large group of enemies by going upstairs, however, a dragon awaits him there. The dragon rains down fire, and the character goes back down the stairs to challenge the undead army instead. Thankfully, the dragon has burned them, clearing the path.

The hero acquires a great sword, which has a feature called Lunge. This allows players to forcefully attack an enemy. He challenges a knight using lunge, but the knight kills him. Knights are tough enemy types. He challenges the knight again. The lunge sends the knight flying into the air, and he dies. The hero goes back inside the tower, and is ambushed again. In a dark area, there are lots of enemies to ambush players, but players can also ambush them. The hero uses fire magic to cause an explosion and kill multiple enemies at once. He rushes to the top of the tower and is now on the roof where a giant black monster attacks, and almost instantly kills him!

The area is known as the Wall of Lodeleth, but all areas are connected, like in Bloodborne. Using a shortcut to go to the boss, he picks up a bow. Controls look very similar to Bloodborne. Being attacked by zombie dogs, the fast controls from Bloodborne allow him to move quickly and kill the fast-moving dogs. Short bows allow the character to move around really fast and fire shots after rolling, but don’t do a lot of damage. Using the dual sword now we see a new feature, Spin. The hero uses it in an open courtyard and it can strike multiple enemies at the same time.

Now, moving towards the Mausoleum, there are two knights, and one of them has a spear. He separates both knights from each other and kills them one at a time. The hero heads into the Mausoleum. A cut-scene starts. The doors close. Drool drips down from the ceiling. A tall man-like beast with flaming swords falls to the floor. The boss fight with the “Dancer of The Frigid Valley” begins. Wearing metal armor, the beast is feminine, with a veil and moves like a dancer. Like in Bloodborne, depending on how much health they have, their moves change. Our hero makes a valiant effort, but sadly, he dies and the demo comes to a close.

Hesitation is defeat.
http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/06/16/e3-2015-dark-souls-3-is-everything-i-want-in-a-dark-souls-sequel
The most mysterious enemy was a seemingly normal hollow among a praying group up on a roof, who without warning transformed into some kind of horrible tar-like creature that devastated all surrounding enemies and eventually the player.

The boss at the end was called Dancer of the Frigid Valley, a huge, spindly, dancer-like creature that moved like smoke from a candle; a graceful but unpredictable rhythm. It reminded me a bit of Voldo from Soul Calibur, but instead of claws it wielded a long, narrow fire sword that set the boss room aflame with every swing. [Pretty sure based on this and the other preview that DotFV is this thing.]

--

The newest combat feature is called the Ready Stance, which allows players to utilize devastating special abilities, like a powerful slash attack or an upward thrust that sends enemies flying into the air. These were special moves beyond the simple strong attacks you could do in other Souls games. It seemed more similar to the charge attacks in Bloodborne.

Besides the Ready Stance, another new feature were small gravestones. When standing near one, you can press the action button to “offer flame,” which illuminates the gravestone in a blue light. After lighting it up, an epitaph on the tomb read: “Grave of nameless retainer. Raised his sword for the Lord of Cinder.”

This isn’t a huge feature of the game, according to Miyazaki, who explained how they can be used as landmarks, torches, or simply a way to learn bits of lore. They’ll be hidden throughout the game for the player to find.

--

[On another of their articles] In a Bandai Namco statement provided to IGN, the Dark Souls publisher said: "Dark Souls III brings certain story elements to a conclusion. With that said, we'll reveal more news about the future of the franchise in the coming months."

- 30fps
- "The story in Dark Souls 3 revolves around the “Lord of Cinder“, his resurrection and the Dark Hero trying to defeat him."
- Lunge has either iframes or hyperarmor (no health bars in the demo so they could not confirm which it was)
- A weapon, Legion Scimitars, can be dual-wielded while only taking up one weapon slot (Blades of Mercy-like)
- No magic shown in the demo

We’ve expanded the character builder and tactical options without sacrificing the feel of the series. We added new action elements that contribute to the sense of role-playing. For instance, we adopted the concept of rapid fire for the short bow, and the animation between rolling and walking has been smoothed out. The speed of the action is slightly increased compared to the previous two games and balanced so you can move intuitively. I don’t think we’re going to employ the idea of agility, otherwise the action would be stressful until you raise your stats. There are slightly less maps than Dark Souls II, but each of the maps are on a much larger scale.

If you know Japanese I bet this has a bunch of vague uninformative answers in it.

e: And some stuff from Digital Spy in actual english http://www.digitalspy.com/gaming/ne...a-miyazaki.html

Humanity and systems around bonfires will see "adjustments" compared to previous games, while bonfire warping will return and be similar to what was seen in Dark Souls 2, which allowed players to jump between any previously accessed bonfire from the start of the game.

Meanwhile, the enemy respawn system will move away from the Dark Souls 2 approach of stopping enemies from appearing in the world after a certain amount of attempts. "The respawn system that you have seen in Dark Souls 2 will not be reproduced in Dark Souls 3," Miyazaki said.

The Giant Lord you see in the trailer signifies the resurrection of the Lords of Kindle who used to link the fire.

The stuff I thought was interesting:

@15:23 - In the presentation Q&A, they said hub-wise the game is like Dark Souls (so Firelink Shrine type hub). Then when he asked Miyazaki 1 on 1 in his interview, he said there would be a "safe place" like Bloodborne.
@19:53 - There is a statue trying to cut off its own head. :black101:
@23:25 - Miyazaki doesn't know what soul memory is. :iamafag: Also there's another aspect to matching besides soul level in DS3 that they mentioned but would not reveal.
@30:31 - Both Miyazaki and the translator called the dragons in the demo "stone dragons".

Should come out today, and I'm sure scans will be on the internet in -15 minutes.

+ Miyazaki was pissed about The Know's leak which is a good voucher for the authenticity of its little details like the rituals and stuff
+ They're aiming to make "boss-sized enemies" more difficult to read - this is connected to the Ready Stance feature
+ Tanimura is helping with map design. No information on the other DkS2 director (Shibuya), he is probably not involved with the project
+ It isn't simply Miyazaki + DS2 team, some Bloodborne people came over with Miyazaki
+ "Personally, the experience of sinking deep into [Bloodborne's] Gothic, cosmic horror made me rediscover the charm of a fantasy setting. I wanted the chance to observe its characteristics from a different perspective. I think that experience could be what makes Dark Souls III feel unique."
+ Demo difficulty was turned down
+ The second sword the boss pulls out is cloaked with a similar dark effect as an earlier enemy that starts out as a normal hollow but becomes a giant dark goo monster which kills both other enemies and the player
+ No new pics

So this isn't any special info, just their E3 impressions. I cataloged other E3 demo impressions for DS3 back when they were coming out here: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=168638347&postcount=1

When Demon’s Souls was in the initial planning stages, and right around the time it was entering the prototype phase, I came on as the director, and at the time, it was a completely different and very difficult project compared to what it ended up becoming.

4Gamer:
Is that so?

Miyazaki:
Yes. One thing I remember was that the camera perspective was completely different.

At the time, the plan was to make it first-person, or more specifically, a game in which you switched between first and third-person perspectives.

4Gamer:
Wow, really?

Miyazaki:
Yeah. At the time, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was a really big deal, and I think SCE wanted a game similar to that.

From my perspective, though, I didn’t think we could compete by taking the same approach as Oblivion, so I wanted to focus more on gameplay elements like battles and exploration, and had to do a lot to convince everyone that a third-person camera was the way to go.
