Actually that's his twin in The Following.

But yeah, him cutting off his ear (wtf?) didn't really feel that realistic, though I guess it makes a bit more sense knowing you can grow them back.

I'm really loving Dutch and Johnny's relationship. The two actors have great platonic chemistry, and it's good to get more of a glimpse into their pre-D'avin dynamic.

Also like the new Doc Pawter, who (a recurring, supporting character) comes into her first episode with more personality and history than the entire cast of Dark Matter combined. She's definitely a little crazy, but in a good way.

And yeah, that was Lisa Ryder as the RAC recruiter. She was one of the non-lovely parts about Andromeda, to my memory. (It's a pity that the lovely parts of the show were that prominent.)

Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.
The friday night scifi block of Defiance, Dark Matter, and Killjoy's is really quite wonderful and I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite. Really happy to see SyFy stepping up their game, hope it continues with The Expanse and whatever else they have planned for next year.

At first I was a little skeptical of how similar this show seems to Dark Matter but they seem to be different enough at this point. Killjoys is less serious and just more Space Cowboys, whereas Dark Matter is going more for that grimdark everything-is-mysterious angle.

Killjoys if anything feels like the more fun show vs Dark Matter and the whole cast seems to feel more natural in their roles.

Yeah, the Expanse, I can see that failing hard due to budget restraints, failing to adequately represent the horror of the protomolecule, especially with the scope and size of the casino asteroid.

Yeah, I wonder if that's why they pushed it back to December. They started filming the same time as Dark Matter and Killjoys, so it could be they need more time for sfx and polish, and/or want less of a crowded schedule for it to get lost in.

Either way, The Expanse is the one I've wanted to work out the most, especially with the latest novel out, so I'm praying they have it properly figured out :ohdear:

But Killjoys is really coming along well in my opinion. Between what already looks like some pretty solid chemistry, and the creator straight-up denouncing stale love triangle stories, I'm loving the relationships as they're already starting out. I like that they're addressing D'avin's PTSD pretty steadily from the beginning and without much melodrama, making the mystery behind his problems a personal subplot rather than just suddenly carting it out mid-season as a gimmicky D'avin Character Development Episode. (That being said, his finding the mysterious doctor Amanda Tapping's doctor role? will definitely be An Episode, but at least it will have decent build-up.)

They're dragging out the Red Box stuff, though. Shows' good enough to give it a pass so far, but Dutch telling Jacob "if I tell you about it we're done" was really lame, especially after just talking about how long they had been partners and how much they trust each other.

She wasn't saying "If I tell you about it we're done," she was saying "If I tell you it's over, does that satisfy you?" She was trying to assure him that everything would go back to normal without actually getting into the stuff from her past. He, having complete faith in her, agreed.

Yeah, this.

And yeah, odds are that the mysterious and somewhat ethically challenged doctor that D'avin is looking for will be none other than Amanda Tapping.

I thought it was kind of ambiguous, at first I thought it was weird that she was just going to lie to him. But the wording was kind of weird and the way it ended with the "no more lies" thing seemed to kind of muddy the meaning behind what she said. I'm interested to see what she really means by that.

She's lying to him.

There's no way that "If I say it's over can we leave it at that?" wasn't the intended meaning of the line. Anything other than that is seriously reaching. Of course, it's not over, and her unresolved problems are sure to pop back up later in the season.

The whole pregnancy fetish cult thing was vaguely disconcerting too.

I still like the show, though. Dutch's interactions with the Qresh (Khresh?) woman were pretty good, nice character develop moments with John/Davin and Davin/Dutch (that last bit where Davin is trying to console/compliment her, haha drat)

I was somewhat confused by the plot. So the last member of one of the 9 families died, prompting a succession crisis revolving around the unborn kid. But either way, doesn't that mean that one of the 9 families is basically just one person? Seems odd.

You need somebody to legally have a claim on the family's shares, I would guess. That kid could probably marry another Qreshi noble (read: a decent sized Company shareholder) to further perpetuate his line. I actually really like the Nine's mixing of corporate politics and feudal airs.

The alternative would be the 8 remaining families coming into conflict over the dead family's holdings, aka a shooting war.

I don't think this episode was as great as the others (Dutch's fight was great, the final firefight not so much). Also there were fewer Dutch and Johnny moments, which are always good.

Still a helluva lot better than Dark Matter.

I like this show too. I'm willing to forgive a lot more when it comes to sci-fi and this show doesn't really have that much to forgive. It's fun, I like at least two thirds of the main characters and the world is sufficiently interesting.

I see it more as adding to a picture of Dutch that's already taking place. We already know that Dutch has a connection with someone both hidden and extremely powerful (she's still in the RAC despite flaunting their rules), that she's far more sophisticated that her partners, able to effortlessly blend into rarefied social settings with ease and that she has training and resources far beyond her apparent station. While it might seem like "Dutch is royal" is a foregone conclusion, it could also be that the instrument was more of an ironic gift based on the way her mentor trained her. Perhaps he meant for her to be able to move among the Nine as one of their own, all the better to murder them.

I saw the preview of the zombie episode of Dark Matter and deleted the series from my DVR. The mediocre acting and ultra budget production values are just too painful to watch. Killjoys on the other hand is a solid scifi show. I'm liking it more than Firefly so far. Hopefully The Expanse is more Killjoys than Dark Matter.

Since they take external commands actually fielding soldiers with them would be an electronic warfare nightmare. While the team didn't have the resources to hack the program imagine being able to instantly cripple an opposing army because you hacked their tiny healing robots. Also it didn't do anything about the pain it looked like so they'd hardly be super soldiers unless you wanted to field an army of crazies like the guard.

I liked 'cargo hold' aka random warehouse down the street complete with Crown lift.

Wasn't thrilled on this episode after Dark Matter had just done the spooky abandoned space ship last week, would have worked better if they were spread apart a bit (I do understand they're different shows but I feel my point stands)... I've decided I like this more than Dark Matter so far but both still have room for growth.
