Halep in serious trouble. Down a break in third set against Cepelova.

E: genie and halep out. Met in semi last year.

So speaking as someone who's never hit a tennis ball in his life, what would be the tactic against the big hitters? Slice the ball low, vary the pace, etc.? I'm not sure I've ever seen Bouchard hit a slice now that I think about it. Watching this match it looked to me like she was trying to force it too much, refusing to back from the baseline, going for unlikely winners too often (and sending them way long or wide), etc. At this point I feel like just pulling back a little and getting into the rallies more could do wonders. If this freefall lasts much longer I might actually start rooting for her again despite myself, just out of pity.

Petra is also someone who likes to go for winners as much as possible, but I feel like she has a lot more variety in her shot selection (and she comes forward a lot more often), and recently she's learned to be patient during the rallies as well.

Meanwhile Halep is a break down in the third. :\

I particularly enjoyed the bits where Clare Balding reminded the viewers that the hashtag is 'Wimbledon 2day with the number 2, not the letters'. Christ.

Trying to apply any logic to Bouchard's game other than "take the ball early" is futile.

Nishikori has withdrawn. Djokovic's side gets even easier.

e: Yesterday was hot but today is humid and horrible. Terrible weather to play tennis in.

I had him facing Isner or Cilic in the quarters; didn't think it was likely he would get to Djoker.

Kyrgios looking a bit out of sorts vs. Juan Monaco. Movement not great, rhythm not great, missing a lot of shots. On serve in the first but he's not on song.

Man every time Monaco tries to lift Kyrgios just smashes it past him.

This is the first service game of his that has gone to deuce. Monaco hasn't seen a break point yet.

Edit; gently caress Monaco had that rally won 5 times... Nope. No break point for you Juan.

Poor Monaco...Nothing is landing when it needs to. Not his day at all. Hasn't even played bad.

Bouchard being exposed as a fraud is the best thing about the fortnight so far.

Edit: A. Krunic is my dark horse of the tournament

Loved her at the US Open last year. She had a great chance of beating Azarenka in 4R last year but the moment got to her, too many short slice backhands.

Her game is really made for grass though.
