I wouldn't be surprised if they released some Disney/Pixar shorts with the emotions. Disgust and Anger taking over during Riley's puberty would probably be fairly amusing. I also saw a little girl in a stroller hugging a Sadness doll today.

I found a preview of the French subtitled version on the Walt Disney Belgium youtube channel, it doesn't look like they tried to keep the pun, he just says "m'envoie quelqu'un à aimer" which is just a direct translation of "send me someone to love". I did find a youtube comment that said it should've been "cramer" instead of "aimer", a verb meaning "to burn". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9S4L-Lj5vt0 I can't find the Quebecois version, dunno if they translated it any differently. I also found a Latino version, but since I don't speak Spanish, I can't say how they changed it, it's "amar a un alma de lava". The best I can Google translate it is he's wishing for a soul made of lava?? If this is a pun, I dunno, then they just sing "I lava you" at the end anyway. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_BYfplNpfg

Lava was underwhelming, but not awful. I think two or three tweaks could've made it so much better. I interpreted it as a creation myth about the Hawaiian islands, myself. As I said in the cartoon thread, I loved Inside Out, particularly because I foresee it being used to teach both kids and adults about their emotions. Emotions are hard to explain even to adults, never mind kids! I laughed like a hyena at the "bear" joke, and had to explain it to my parents later.

Hard to find something to say that wasn't already said, but I really liked the movie. It was a good exploration of emotions and should help some people understand themselves. And even if it doesn't, it was funny and enjoyable. There's lots of Pixar movies that was tangentially funny - that is, they have a very solid movie and structure, but with comedy. Finding Nemo and Toy Story 3 come to mind. I can't say this is a comedy, but there's enough funny to keep it from getting too heavy.

I just feel like the visuals and feel didnt match up to Pixar's previous films. Especially with the concept. In WALL-E you had earth covered in skyscrapers of trash. In Nemo the sea is a vibrant colorful community. In Up you had a lush jungle and was tranported there by a house lifted by a bajillion colorful ballons. In Inside Out you go into the mind. That should be fuckin dope! Oh... it just looks like my company's executive offices... and a nice verson of a warehouse... Balls... Still a good movie. Just not Pixar's best.

I really enjoyed this movie, I liked the arc of the main characters, although I had expectations of this movie dealing a bit more with Riley's life causing her to have emotional issues, like a complicated or genuinely difficult situation to deal with emotionally. But in a way, I kind of admire that. The stakes are relatively low, but to Riley and her inner emotions, they're extremely high. The movie did its job and made me feel emotions, and I like that the lesson was that you can't repress your feelings. I also appreciate that it didn't spell out the lesson too hard or go on longer than it needed to. The cat joke was probably the funniest in the entire movie. Lava wasn't very good but it didn't make me angry like some of y'all. It was just a dumb thing with a repetitive song, I've seen plenty of those.

I watched this last night, and I liked it a lot. One weird super nit-picky thing that sort of took me out of the movie, although I still cried (as did the mostly adult audience I was with since it was a late-night showing) was when Joy was crying in the pit while looking at the memories, and her eyes were just so strangely animated - like the shape of her eyes while sad/tearing were so bizarre-looking since her character design doesn't have strongly defined eyelids and her eyebrows travel for emoting. I'm probably the only one who cared or noticed this, but here's a gif showing a bit of the scene anyway - her eyes closed don't look so bad, but when they are the long tear-drop banana shapes, I was like no: I also was not as angry about the Lava short as others, but I heard ahead of time that it was bad, and also knew that the volcano character designs were likely inspired by IZ and his wife: I also thought that the short was going to have a completely tragic ending of them never being together, and was so relieved that it was a happy ending even if it made for a weaker/lamer story.

All the emotions' skins were somewhat amorphous, with sparkly bits floating off and shifting about, but it was most noticeable on Joy because she glows brighter than the others. There's a soft light with the rest, but Joy seriously illuminates the space around her. I spent a poo poo-ton of the movie wondering how that skin texture worked in modeling.

It kinda reminded me of when you try to get a good look at something in a dream, or when you close your eyes and see those weird spots and try to figure out their exact shape. Not sure that's what they were going for, but it fits what the characters represent.

http://www.npr.org/2015/06/10/413273007/its-all-in-your-head-director-pete-docter-gets-emotional-in-inside-out The director talks about that on Fresh Air quote:Even the way [Joy] looks, if you look at her up close, and this is true of all of the emotions in the film, we wanted them to look not like little people — so they're not made of skin or flesh — they're made out of energy. They have these tiny little particles that sort of roil and move and that we felt was a good way of representing that.
