Most lady musicians I listen to are heavily into weird kinda music, like Jennifer Charles is maybe my favorite musician. Her old stuff with Elysian Fields is sometimes rock, sometimes gothic, but always good, and with time she blends these together into a real cool sound. Kinda like.. sexy goth lounge, it's real good. Her stuff with Lovage is trip hoppy, which I also appreciate, but I prefer her Elysian Fields stuff.

I really need to get into female rock and punk, so I'm gonna look that stuff up. Kaki King may be the best guitarist I've ever heard. I love female drummers, but the only name that comes to mind is Samantha Maloney. I saw Against Me! in Denver last year and it was an incredible show, real small venue, mosh pit, crowd interaction, just everyone getting into it. Laugh at me for going to an Against Me! show in 2014 if you must, but Grace knows how to rock tfo.

Other female musicians/female headed bands i've been listening to lately:
Metric
Purity Ring
Courtney Barnett

There is a weird trend of "sad girl plays the ukelele" music out there these days, and while it's cool to listen to once in awhile, it gets a little old unless they're very good. Well, that's my rambling, all over the place post about music by women, this is a good thread pb

lots of cool ladies in this thread!

I was really into Purity Ring's first album, and I liked their second one too. I've heard that they aren't good live tho :\ I love and listen to female vocalists waaaaay more than male vocalists. You should check out Young Wonder if you like Purity Ring:

there's so many good female vocalists that sing with men! It's legit annoying. Elysian Fields/Lovage has it, Freezepop has it, Charming Disaster (every song is them taking turns and I prefer Bisker's voice by far), it's just a really common thing and I don't get it. After listening to that video, I am absolutely checking out Young Wonder.
