Got my Barbarians from the Nickstarter a couple days ago. Book looks neat, really like the Barbarian sprue. New Random Encounter Table requires the following, if you wanted to make all the stuff needed: 4 Barbarian Thugs 2 Barbarian Berserkers (The Barbarian name for every other themed gang calls a "Barbarian", i.e 100gc dude with a Two Handed Weapon) 2 Barbarian Knights 2 Barbarian Templars 2 Barbarian Men-at-Arms 1 Barbarian Treasure Hunter 1 Barbarian Thief 1 Barbarian Infantryman 1 Barbarian Wizard, to represent the Summoner Balkren 1 Figure to represent Kornovik - a Barbarian riding a woolly rhinoceros 2 Chilopendras, demon/human hybrids that are human from the waist up and giant centipede from the waist down. 3 Kaylakids, man-sized demon-squids that float 2 Grakura - "large hog" sized mix of a turtle and a crab, shell with four legs and two claws, head is shrunken inside the shell? 2 Failing Wetches - demon that looks like an old, fat man with long, curving fingernails. 2 Bile Hounds - large dog with rat-like head that drips corrosive saliva. 1 Toravor - big ol' monster with two heads that feature only a round, sharp-toothed maw each. Big ol' arms for burrowing, see Into the Breeding Pits for rules regarding that. And then there's two "demon lords". One seems to look just like a bigger Chilopendra - in fact the Chilo' serve him and the new "pact" rules will allow you to have them as standard soldiers. The other is a two-headed boar-man that sits on a floating palanquin, and a "pact" with him gives you the chance to summon Failing Wetches. Then the rest is just stuff from the regular frostgrave random encounters table, although you'll want an extra "minor demon" as they can show up in pairs now. The Barbarians would only take up 17 of your twenty dudes in the plastic box set, plus a bunch of converting, greenstuff and a 1:72 rhino model for Kornovik, and whatever it would take a dude to look "wizardly" for Balkren. I got the bunch of metal models that represent the "armoured" version of weapon combinations, so I'll have plenty of bits left over to do stuff with. Maybe to convert a Middenheim Warband for the Mordheim campaign that I'll never get around to playing... *sigh* Edit: New warriors are Mystic Warrior (unarmed, but doesn't suffer penalties, and attacks are magical), Monk (armed with bladed staff, which gives a -1 damage modifier to enemy attacks in hand-to-hand), demonic servant that can only be summoned with a new spell and comes with a random ability from a list of twenty (technically 19 as one is ignored and is only used in random encountered demons in the new rules for summoning and demons)Demon Hunter (who comes with two-handed weapon, crossbow, leather armour, a damage bonus vs demons and becomes more expensive to hire if your wizard is a summoner, knows spells to summon demons or has a base with a summoning circle) and an assassin who gets a bonus when supported in combat, wields a poison the debilitates a figure until a healing spell or potion is used or the game ends but cannot be a "supporting" figure themselves. So, you know, sneak attack and debuff! Further more there's a new spell that allows you to add an offensive or defensive buff to a soldier. So, anyway, it's neat. If you find the base game good enough, then this adds neat flavour and options for sigilists and Summoners. LashLightning fucked around with this message at 00:05 on Nov 24, 2016 |

The above image has been released for fan-made house-rule documents to use. Important caveat - you can't use it on anything you're selling, which is pretty reasonable.

Northstar Miniatures are making plastic sets for some project with Osprey and their wargames sub-section. Currently confirmed are dwarfs, goblins and elves. They've sold a dwarf sprue at a convention, but we only have pictures of the goblin three-ups to go on. I thought it was for the upcoming "Kobolds and Cobblestones" skirmish game that's coming out early next year, but apparently they're for a different game.

Irate Tree posted:Which soldiers are those? Bronze-age civilizations have been mentioned to exist in parts of the Archipelago. The warring Drichean are named, and they've had a metal "test piece" made that they've given out with the Nickstarters for Ghost Archipelago and now the recent Snakemen plastics. Apparently they'll be getting a plastic set themselves, as will stone-aged "tribals", at some point.

Blurry side-shot of a three-up of a Frostgrave Soldiers II hench-woman, plus some Oathmark Humans. Personally, I felt that the FG-Soldiers were in enough winter clothing that all you'd need to make them female is add a "womanly" head. Will be interesting to see more detail of the body. If they're still fairly androgynous, but 'slimmer' than the male bodies, then you'd be able to add young male heads and make obviously younger soldiers/apprentices.

Probably! I'll try to throw something together - I know that Brettonian Men At Arms work with the Imperial Guardsmen arms, once you shave/saw/clip the shoulders off the the MaA. I've got some guard pieces and some soldier pieces, I'll see what I can throw together.

Maze of Malcor, but it isn't being Kickstarted.Amazon posted:Part magical university, part museum, part tourist attraction, the great Collegium of Artistry had flourished in Felstad's final days. Under the leadership of the seemingly immortal Malcor the Mad, the vast complex expanded, with new wings being built wherever they would fit, including up and down the rock face, and even buried within the mountain itself. Visitors called it one of the architectural wonders of the world; the students, who often got lost in its endless tunnels, simply called it "The Maze."

Thanks for supplying the thread with content, IrateTree. I've been having trouble sitting down to get some work down on my warbands. Anyway, preview from the author - new experience table! The issue of combat-wizards being inherently better than buffer-wizards is being tackled with that the wizard won't get XP for defeating enemy wizards, apprentices or soldiers: Author's blog.

Not all the torsos have the fur trim, and taking a quick Google of "native artic clothing" shows that furry bits would be a sign of... verisimilitude. Part of the issue is from our perspective clothing material is advanced enough that furry bits on cold-weather clothing is outdated in most cases and largely only hangs around as extravagant decoration - often on woman's winter coats. (Or winter coats often marketed towards women, if you're a dude or non-binary I can't stop you from wearing them, I'm not your mom) I don't know how far off these figures would be from the reality if someone tried to throw a version of brigandine armour and pre-gunpowder-era cold-weather clothing. I don't know if there are any design notes around by the artist of what they used as references or influences for clothing.

Well, poo poo, Irate Tree got perma'd over some nonsense with the Goonhammer boys. (and girls, presumably) I better get off my arse and paint some things to provide something for the thread! Well, the second edition of Frostgrave is still on track to be released in August. aRu-mor is up for the art, after working with Osprey on their various Adventures books, Dracula's America and Ragnarok, Wizards' equipment cost nothing, apprentices get buffs and it's less of a "game over, man!" should your head mage get geeked, warbands are more like Ghost Archipelago crews with a soldier being either "standard" or "specialist" with a maximum of 4 specialists in your 'band, Thugs and Thieves being free so you always have 8 There's two new plastic sets coming up, one being armoured soldiers: I don't know what the second set will be, but there will be one and also metal figures according to this interview with Nick Eyre, the head honcho at North Star Miniatures.

LashLightning posted:Stargrave, releasing this April: Stargrave is very much a mixture of Ghost Archipelago and 2nd Edition Frostgrave in spaaace. Mimicking the GA Heritor/Warden leadership (rather than the FG Wizard/Apprentice) you Captain and First Mate each choose from a selection of 8 shticks that determine abilities and powers - being psychic, being a cyborg, etc. They could have the same shtick or each a different one. Thug/Thief equivalents are free, and it looks like the other standard henchmen in FG are available, too, ('apothacary' being 'medic', etc) with there being a limited-availibility of other types of crew/henchmen including someone armed with a flamethrower from the looks of it - similar to how FG works. Minus the flamethrower, of course. Most crew are armed with either a pistol or a carbine. Any crew member can be declared being a robot/android when you hire them. Presumably there are advantages and disadvantages for being a robot - it was mentioned that the captain can't be a robot, but it looks like the cyborg abilities pretty much give you all you could want in an android leading your force, anyway.

ape!!! posted:I have so many leftover arms and bits from the two sprues I had. Does anyone know where to get just the bodies for minis? I'm having trouble knowing what to search for. Same with my Frostgrave sprues, (and random Mordheim sprues that a friend gave me) I have enough bits for a handful of minis but no bodies. You might want to check out "Blue Stuff", and make some molds of the bodies, would only really work for chunky bodies/shields/etc rather than small things with details. I'm still working on something for an ongoing project, to create a bunch of copies of OOP parts for some Warhammer Fantasy Orc Boyz and Goblin Wolfriders. Yet to try out a mixture of milliput and greenstuff as the "filling". Sci-fi-wise, some places like Anvil Industries sell their torsos and legs separately, which you could stick spare arms and heads on. Both AI and WGA tend to fit GW parts, so should fit each other too. There was one place on Facebook, who've I've forgotten the name of, who was doing a thing of selling silicon molds that made mostly bodies. They've made them in the style of old Warhammer Fantasy High Elves and Empire Milita/Knights. Edit: Ah, found 'em, "Scenery Forge". I thought it sounded cool but I live in a small flat and don't want to touch mixing smelly chemicals with a ten-foot pole, tbh. Cassa posted:Does anyone have any house rules for damage that make it a bit less wildly swingy? The swinginess is a feature, according to the author. There are meant to be times where an Infantryman slays a Knight in one roll. Rogue Stars has a similar issue regarding it's use of the d20, and it's been suggested to reduce the d20 to one of those funny dice between a D12 and a d20 (a d14, maybe) and double the bonuses given by circumstances. That's still "swingy", but not wildly so. The author has mentioned elsewhere that you'd need to rebuild the magic system if you were to change to a 2d10-based system. I've yet to play the game enough to get a feel for the rules and math to make some sort of "Frostgrave: 2d10 edition".

I think second edition Frostgrave includes changes to how experience is earned to encourage getting the loot - you get less/limited experience for killing. This is introduced in one of the supplements for first edition, but put into the game proper with second edition.
