Some things can't be unseen
Today I went to the zoo with some coworkers for language practice. I got to see an adorable little snow owl, a very angry-looking goshawk, a pigeon hawk (actually a falcon!) and a peregrine falcon! The falcons are a lot smaller than I expected but they were all the cutest things.

It's baby animal season in Northern California, so I keep encountering adorable doofus birds and critters when I go out to film wildlife. Tonight, a juvenile Green Heron flew down to fish right in front of me. It caught a small fish, then dropped it while trying to swallow it.

A river otter mother has been taking her pup to learn how to fish at the marsh where I'm filming a documentary. The pup gets distressed when it can't keep up with its mom, and starts squeaking.

A really young Northern Harrier showed up this month. It sucks at hunting and it keeps getting mobbed by crows and blackbirds.

For I am a cat, you see.
I don't really own makeup so yesterday I went to Sephora looking for advise on where to start as far as foundation and/or concealer. The sales ladies were so nice and helped me match my skin tone and let me sample a couple brands and even let me take home a free sample of an expensive moisturizer. I walked out with some awesome stuff and a great feeling. And I looked great too! :v:

Hello Commandos
My Dad died last year (stay with this for a second) and today while clearing some stuff out of his house I found his diaries, he told me I could read them after he went and they were full of really beautiful messages about how much he enjoyed seeing me and my son.
I read all of last years and there was no bad words in them, just joy - and that makes me happy, I did a good job as a son :)

While I was doing my usual morning birdwatch, I got to spend 30 minutes sitting near the kittens that my landlord's barn cat had, while they romped around in a stupidly idyllic green field :kimchi:

And, also, it's Eid! Getting up and eating breakfast when the sun is up was really nice.

I woke up early up to sit down & eat at a diner in my neighborhood before work, and it was super good and super cheap. It was $7.50 for home fries, 2 slices of buttered toast, 2 scrambled eggs, 2 turkey sausage patties, coffee, & orange juice, and they charge me extra for the turkeyness of my sausage. I think this is going to be my new Friday treat. :keke:

Today I learned about a new dinosaur! Here's a crosspost from PI:

LITERALLY A BIRD posted:

Another new dinosaur was discovered -- I'm sure everybody here already knew that most, if not all, dinosaurs had proto-bird features like pygostyles, pectoral girdles, and/or quill stubs or feathers, but the new discovery is pretty significant. Its name means "Zhenyuan's dragon," and it had short arms with fully developed wings, long tail plumes, and evidence of more dense feathering along other parts of the integument. The feathers are much more complex than had previously been imagined for dinosaurs of its era. It's a new genus and species to add to the already-impressive collection of dinosaurs that have been confirmed as feathered avian ancestors, and also indicates that short- and long-armed raptors coexisted. If I'm not misremembering, prior theories placed the short-armed raptors as having evolved from long-armed ones on their way into becoming modern birds.

Anyway, have a couple articles, and a link to the scientific paper :goshawk:
