quiz up and draw something both have had pilots. i'm withholding judgement on this becaue part of me really wants to see how they pull it off.

stranger ideas are out there in the world: the belgians made a game show based on tetris and that one's been running over there since 1994.

Oh gosh, I am SO ready to revisit Double Dare. Although it was Double Dare 2000 when I was watching it.

Trip report; just watched the Double Dare reunion....and it was honestly rather disappointing. It's really clear that the people involved had a lot of passion for the project; in addition to Marc Summers, they brought back Harvey the Announcer, Robin Russo, and a bunch of the cast of All That were the contestants. But it also felt like they were funding it off pocket lint and couch money. The obstacle course was only 4 obstacles, there was no slime, most of the run time was talking heads (and not even talking about the history of the show; just making bad jokes about "man can you believe its been 30 years?")...it just felt like 5 minutes of nostalgia stretched into a 30 minute special.

Truthiness!
AV Club posted an oral history of Double Dare for the special, and I suspect that the article is much better than the television program. Apparently they shoot each episode for less than $10k, and the whole show just gets that much more ridiculous when you're forced to think of it on a logistic level.

"You'll never know if you can fly unless you take the risk of falling."
I've been watching a ton of game show clips over this Holiday season.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFcfLHZoNlM
The first one was a teaser of a then-not known and also cancelled before air, "Deal or No Deal" on ABC. Featuring a $2,500,000 top prize.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iklQUYFizKA
And of course, the previews for "The Wall" have been coming out, which from what I'm gathering is Lebron James' Million Dollar Plinko... but because they have been recorded in 2015, either the contestants won really big and they can't afford the payout, the contestants won nothing, and it makes for low viewership, or it's just an over-dramatic game show that is incredibly slow with fake-out and commercial break teasers.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnsvxKgGcvI
And finally, a preview for GSN's take on the UK game show "Divided" remember Divided? It got cancelled after like, two seasons, somehow GSN decided it was a great idea to pick it up and do their own low budget take on it.

And finally, a show that doesn't really deserve to have it's own page - "SAVE TO WIN AT FAMILY DOLLAR"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJAlvcXooQs

A game show, that might as well just be a 30 minute infomercial for Family Dollar, and it's Family Dollar Brand Root Beer Barrels.

I found it funny that "The Wall" premiered on the same day Trump's presidency became official.

So far on "The Wall" -

Deserving Family earns $1,300,010.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxTWyVL4xB8

The Episodes are Available on Hulu

Oh and To Tell The Truth is back... if you want to get a really bad headache of a game show.

Million Dollar Plinko loving sucks.

But not nearly as much as the new To Tell The Truth does.

i still haven't watched the wall, but apparently there is a not-insignificant amount of people who think it's rigged based on that team of marines going triple-up on the last question and busting out.

a tactful response would be that those people are hasty and incorrect.

the honest response would be that those people are thicker than pig poo poo.

i have experienced first-hand the metaphorical, flaming, electrified, landmine-studded obstacle course that production companies jump through on a regular basis to prove they are honest, because nobody wants to risk a federal prison sentence just to get an extra decimal point on their share. With as many safety checks, standards and practice/compliance people, forms, and notification rules involved, there are way too many safeguards in place and releases to sign that if any type of tinkering were to go down, it would fall at first hurdle and fall pretty damned hard.

it literally isn't worth it*. game shows can't generate enough cash to be managed like world soccer tournaments or the sales of sub-prime mortgage derivatives -- producers wouldn't benefit because most networks, like how they do for a lot of their productions, will only front somewhere around 80% of production costs for a prime time show**, and no game show is going to set a prize budget without figuring out how much they can afford to give away over the course of a season, and either adjusting the difficulty or the payout for winning from there to make winning "gently caress off" money possible, but not probable.

also:

the bad news is that celebrity name game was cancelled.

the good news is that he's bringing back the puppets:

quote:

As Deadline reported, NBC has picked up the special Top Puppet, a competition-style program that will find the next great puppet act. Not intended to be a series just yet, the show is conceived as a stand-alone, one-time special. Although Ferguson might seem like a perfect choice to introduce the contestants and chat with them between performances, Deadline reports he’s staying behind the scenes as an executive producer.

Top Puppet comes with a significant credential, as The Jim Henson Company has also been tapped to produce the show along with Talpa Media, which is behind singing competition show The Voice. As for what constitutes a puppet, Deadline reports it can be anything from a sock puppet to a full stage costume. Casting is currently underway, but diversity is encouraged, from marionettes to giant walkers to ventriloquists.

Hey, Tonight was the premiere of "Big Fan" on ABC.

A weird game where the questions are all about a celebrity and fans have to figure out who knows the most about them.

It was alright, but because it only has 4 episodes (2 yesterday, 2 next week) i am not gonna put it up as an entry, because it feels rushed.

Tonight is an all new "The Wall" and tomorrow is an all new "Match Game"

and Divided and Idiotest debut on January 19th

"Most plans are critically flawed by their own logic. A failure at any step will ruin everything after it. That's just basic cause and effect. It's easy for a good plan to fall apart. Therefore, a plan that has no attachment to logic cannot be stopped."
Hey, I've been trying to remember an old game show for literal years, and it's driving me crazy, so I was hoping someone here might be able to help. I've already Googled every possible term, and I didn't find it on the wiki linked in the OP, so I'm kind of at the end of my rope. It was a kids' game show that was very short-lived (like, maybe months, possibly weeks) in the mid to late nineties, airing in the United States, I don't remember if it was Nickelodeon or Disney Channel or what, but I remember it took place in a brownish, basement-like atmosphere, I think the set was pretty cluttered. There were two hosts, a guy and a girl, both apparently teenagers and dressed casually. Most of the show is a haze, but I remember the final round was some sort of VR race involving these bipedal ostrich-looking things (they were made of simple, textureless 3D shapes because it was the nineties). It was either American or Canadian, given the lack of British/Australian accents. Every search I've tried turns up Nick Arcade, Video Power, Remote Control, Video & Arcade Top 10, or Knightmare, if it turns up anything at all, and most of those shows weren't even on during the correct years, and those that were weren't airing in the US, not that any of them fit the description.

It wasn't even a good show, it's just stuck in my head, gnawing at me.

Today's game show news comes from the sad side. Chuck Barris, creator of The newlywed Game, The Dating Game, and The Gong Show has passed away. He was 87.

snoop dogg is hosting a revival of the joker's wild.

you know what? i won't be that guy -- i'm looking forward to it because i want to see what they do with it, because the show p. much ran as far as it could with its basic format in its original run, and any innovation in game show formats can and should be encouraged.

(other people's jokes: "the jizzoker's wild? sounds like the censors will have questions, but okay")
