Napleschat: I ate a train station pizza while trying to move my train ticket to allow me to leave Naples earlier and go to one of the nice cities, and it was by far and away the best thing that I found in Naples

A pizza from the loving railway cafe. If I'd been in London, they'd have served me a sprinkling of cheddar over what appears to be a bathroom sponge that's been left in a bag of tomatoes for three weeks, and they'd have charged me £14 for it while staring at me with their beady London eyes

do note that some of my distaste towards Naples may be related to me deciding that I'm someone who on no account is going to book on a group tour with a bunch of americans making outside noises and therefore of course I'm perfectly fine getting to Pompeii by myself, and then into Naples to go and look at the museum where they took all of the phallic art (it turns out that the Romans carved dicks on literally everything, in order to give them powerful dick magic, and this made a lot of old classicists very, very upset), even with my Italian being essentially limited to "lei parlo Inglese?" and "Juve merda"

and of course that was fine, using public transport in a first-world country isn't actually a challenge, and it was only marginally more so in Italy

that said, it turns out that on the continent all of the museums shut on Mondays, which I bet the group tour was completely aware of and scheduled their plans accordingly. so I spent an afternoon wandering aimlessly around Naples making the Sideshow Bob noise and trying to explain why someone who doesn't speak Italian would be browsing an Italian bookstore via doing Italian Hands and trying to find common ground vis-a-vis Juve

What makes that story worse is that I'm now obliged to go back to Naples at an unspecified later date, purely to see a sculpture of a gladiator fighting off his own enormous anthropomorphic erection, and possibly to eat more railway pizza

Which is why the planet is dying

The other day, in another thread, someone posted the full image set that goatse comes from. My reaction was "oh wow, I didn't realise there was a whole set" instead of the correct response of "gently caress, poo poo, omg, close tab!!!". But that's not when I realised the internet had ruined my brain. That happened when I referenced goatse when talking with a friend who I assumed would know what it was. He didn't.

Thinking he would 'get' it, I tried to briefly explain goatse lore. My friend did not find it to be an amusing concept.

I've heard both "meatspin" and "lemon party" used in actual factual television shows with the expectation that the audience would know what they were talking about, so I've just checked the overton window and it turns out that your friend is the real deviant here

can I do what my grandad did, just lie to poils that I don't have an offensive weapon and hide it in a cupboard?

it's legal to own a sword in the UK, there are a couple of dudes on youtube who have houses full of the things - you can get 18th/19th century cavalry swords pretty cheap, since they were mass-produced at the time

it'd be classed as an offensive weapon if you were running around the park with it, but that would also apply for a heavy wrench or a rock you found on the floor that looks like a tortoise but isn't

there's an exception to that for anything with a curved blade over 50cm (a gurkha blade is curved but I think would be smaller), which is essentially because they wanted to ban samurai swords from being sold to people from middlesbrough even though they couldn't in practice define what one is, but that excludes anything that's an antique or traditionally made

absolutely no law which says you can't buy and sell swords, other than the aforementioned 50cm rule for cheap replica weapons

there's a list of stuff which is explicitly banned from sale, which includes crossbows, butterfly knives, knuckle dusters, and then a bunch of absolutely ridiculous "ninja" stuff including shurikens and foot claws which have never harmed a human being in history

the argument would presumably be that teenagers are more likely to go into a novelty shop and start flinging throwing stars at each other than they are to buy a Napoleonic infantry sword and chase each other round the park with it, but the actual reason is that a bunch of parents in the 80s were worried that their children would grow up to be actual ninjas in feudal Japan and that's why we have Super Mutant Hero Turtles
