There used to be a good metro style Google chrome app back in Win8 but they got rid of it I guess. Does anyone know of a good metro style internet browser? Does edge allow for metro style ui?

Okay so Edge isn't bad for touch devices. I'd like to be able to remove certain UI elements like the ever-present Send to OneNote nonsense that's in every single windows app but I'm surprised Microsoft managed to beat chrome at something.

If "Free" works for you, then you can always just download this here ISO: from microsoft and then install and use Windows 10 forever without activating it. I THINK BootCamp doesn't require a USB drive anymore to do this?

Also, don't worry about activating it if you're just gonna play a video game on it here and there-- I've been using Win10 on my MBP for 2 years now and still haven't activated it because I use it roughly once a month. You can change desktop backgrounds by opening a photo and selecting "Set as desktop background" it's the dumbest thing to "limit" users with, since it's not really a limitation at all.

Anyways, here's the guide I always follow to install Win10: http://www.windowscentral.com/you-do-not-need-activate-windows-10

I hate fast startup. No matter what the benefits of fast startup are, I'd like it to die. It messes up my Bluetooth devices, and I don't see much, if any, startup benefits.

Also, this is a fun thing I felt I'd point out to everyone here since adblock chat is going on: Adguard is the poo poo on Windows and you can buy a lifetime license for like $8 by buying it with foreign currency (I just did it with my paypal account). A lifetime license is normally like $80 or something. Also I used a coupon code: adguard4vip to get another 30% off.

Buy it here if you're too lazy: https://m.adguard.com/en/purchase.html?currencyId=1#1/36500/MOBILE

It blocks every goddamn ad including those annoying ones that don't get blocked on porn sites, and it has next to no memory/processor footprint. You can get it for android too (and iOS but not through this page).

Highly recommended

e: for clarification, Adguard is a program you install on your computer that blocks ads everywhere by modifying your hosts files and actively doing whatever-the-gently caress. It's not just a browser extension, so you'll block ads everywhere including, for example, apps that shove ads in your face via the windows store.

Edge, for me, is perfectly fine and better than competitors if you care about battery usage. I use it on all my PCs. It has nice features, like a "set aside" function for tabs that I would use if my internet usage was being monitored at work, or you wanted to hide poo poo from your professor in school. It also lets you sync to your Microsoft account and since I use a surface and a PC, that helps. You can also tell it to clear your poo poo whenever you close the browser which is nice if you, like me, don't want your history tracked for when your friend/wife inevitably goes on your computer.

uBlock works, and is found here: (https://www.microsoft.com/en-nz/store/p/ublock-origin/9nblggh444l4). It's not able to be found through a search on the Store because it's not technically released, it's a beta/preview. You can also download the GitHub version here.

That being said, I'd recommend not using it because some websites (like pornhub for example) don't work with it, it tries to download a .htm file when you navigate to the URL. In my opinion, the Adguard extension is better for adblocking in Edge, though, and you don't get those problems.

Firefox is still better for privacy I think, but supposedly they're going to release a tool to convert chrome apps to edge extensions or something soon enough, so you'll be able to use NoScript etc. if you care about that stuff. And then, finally, Edge is superior to me because it has better scrolling performance and (usually) better media playback than the competitors. Especially Chrome as far as scrolling performance goes.

We allowed you to pin a contact onto your taskbar, so that you can select the contact and then select the method/app to contact them, and then you send a message! We know you hated the tedium of selecting the method/app to contact someone, selecting the contact, then sending them a message. See it's all about improving the workflow. You're welcome.

And if you're one of the .001% of people who use their computer for 3D modeling, you're in luck because our OS's default environment is sort of geared towards that now!

I mean there are many many aspects in running an operating system, but something as low level as a right click menu causing something like this is really indicative about the state of Windows 10 after all this time.

Which is to say, mostly stable and mostly bug-free. How in the world can an ad-supported, paid piece of software made by the most valuable company in the world, staffed by the most capable software developers be MOSTLY stable/bug-free. You're far more likely to mess something up without a clean install. It's very, very easy nowadays. It's arguably easier to do a clean install then to try and remove poo poo on your own.

Generally nothing of value is lost when I do clean installs. Sometimes I’ll forget my emulator/ROMs and lose a bunch of progress in Pokémon or a completed save file in final fantasy, but my photos and work things go ~to the cloud~

I think the general rule of thumb is to assume that huge tech companies that make money off of getting as much data as possible off of you will attempt to get as much data as possible off of you in strangely insidious ways. Syncing your browser history across devices by way of a unified account that also serves as the hub of all the other data they've gotten off you seems like a really weird thing to assume they don't track.

Microsoft knows that you went to https://www.somethingawful.com by way of telemetry purposes. Should we assume they aren't going to attempt to make money off of that data by building it into your profile?
