My favorite reveal in the series might be that Oscar Newman's beard was actually real. I thought for sure that was a David Simon Invention to make it easier to recognize him, but nope - the real dude had that bitchin' facial hair.

"different kind of racist." Oy. I watched the series on HBO now and there's a really great featurette that aired at the end of certain episodes. Simon specifically talks about the diner scene as a way to show the "Scars of segregation" and the generational divide between the nurse and her daughter.
