the internal pressure of the hab is so great compared to the Martian atmosphere that there is no way it would flap in the wind as shown in the movie. It would be solid and straining against his duct tape and plastic sheeting. Although the universe as depicted in the book has unrealistic Martian winds.
He has to trust the strength of the hab canvas and seal strips. Putting potentially sharp rocks or boxes to keep holding pressure would eventually wear holes in the hab canvas due to small vibrations and flexing.
