I really hope the first line of dialogue in the movie is "I'm pretty much hosed."

Timby posted:As for Blade Runner 2, Scott's producing it. Denis Villeneuve is directing. Holy poo poo. I loved Enemy. I'm pumped for this even more than I was just from hearing the phrase "Blade Runner sequel".

evobatman posted:I read The Martian and Ready Player One back to back, so when a nerd writes a book, I've seen how it can go reasonably OK, and how it can fail horribly and make you feel like you need a shower after reading it. At least The Martian doesn't serve the conveniently talented nerdy Mary Sue character his perfect manic pixie dream girl as a literal reward for accomplishing his goal. Anything involving romance in RP1 was just painful to read.

I think the really important question is, does Sean Bean die?

Sith Happens posted:Why do you guys hate fun? How did your little souls get so broken that pirate-ninjas™ are a source of such angst? For me when reading the book, I found that less funny and charming, and more "Geocities page in 2002 original content do not steal". It just felt weirdly dated for something that's supposed to be the future.

gohmak posted:I wish they wouldn't have left out the power drill killing Pathfinder, the rover flipping and the dust storm he had to traverse on his way to Ares IV MAV. That's disappointing to hear. Obviously the loss of contact is dependent on the tension in the dust storm because they can't warn him, so that takes a good amount of tension out of the plot, and the rover flip is one of the few points in the book where I was like WTF MUST READ NEXT CHAPTER NOW.
