Raymond Deville Ray pats his own pockets. He finds a few bills and looks at them mournfully. "Well I guess I can spot you one for the time being, but I'm not exactly swimming in cash these days." How much is a drink anyway?"

"Ah, hello, Mr. Hall. Well, I suppose I could take a look at your hand, see what we can do about it." He tries to hide his nervousness. After all, there are a lot of large fellows in New Orleans. He decides that he'll try normal medicine first, before he uses his patented healing salve. He only had so much. The... ingredients were somewhat difficult to obtain at times. Thankfully, his earlier shakiness seems to have worn away, and he is able to make quick work of the job. I am getting mixed signals from Invisible Castle in this adventure. Like, wow. 1 on the skill die, 23 on the wild die. I'm almost dreading when I roll weird science.

...well that certainly is a passing roll. drat. Hand Jive Dr. Beattie acts like the professional he is, and treats Richard's hand. From his examination, judging from the break patterns of the metacarpus, and bruising of the carpus, the injury happened roughly two weeks ago, probably a result of the hand being struck by a dense object, a lead pipe perhaps. While it will still take a while for Mr. Hall to be able to perform again, the recovery will be sooner. Dr. Beattie fixes up the hand (as best as common science can) and learns a bit about the cause of damage. Will post more later today, as the Bucket gets more busy.

The Bar Scene The crowd starts to grow, the booze starts to flow. Let the good times roll, so they say. Richard flexes his hand under his newly-wrapped bandages. "Thanks Doc," he beams like a 7-foot sun, "this feels great! Think I can start playing soon! I'll pay you back, soon as I get a gig, swear." His look quickly quiets as he looks to the doors. "Heads up chums, some of the Ninth Street Rowdies showed up. Heard it's one of their boy's birthdays, so poo poo may get loud later on." Richard quickly regains his smile. "Hey Duke, not to surprise you or anything, but that friend you're talking about? I think she just showed up."

Dr. Beattie relaxes slightly once he ascertains that the injury was not consistent with, for example, someone injuring their hand against the body of the deceased. "Well, someone didn't want you to play anything soon. However, I predict a swift recovery. Keep it immobilized for the next few weeks, and you should be fine. If you have any problems, come to my practice. I'm on Oldfather road, you can't miss it.

"Charmed, I'm sure," Dr. Beattie says politely. He orders a shot of bourbon. "Well, Louis, do you have any other possible avenues to find our oversized suspect?"
|
# ? Nov 1, 2015 04:17 |
|
Duke Coleman "oversized?" Duke questions them. "suspect? You ain't talkin' 'bout Richard?" Duke stares at Dr. Beattie with a confused and irritated look in his eyes. "If you are, surely he ain't no suspect of whatever crimes YOU are lookin' into."

Happy Birthdays Any other questions Duke could have regarding tall suspects gets drowned out as the gang of six Ninth Street Rowdies plunk down in a nearby table, beer and whiskey in hand from the bar. As they drink and smoke and joke, one of them stands up. "Lads, this is the best drat birthday I've ever had! Ever had! I know you boys are supposed to give me a present, but dammit, I love you all like brothers, so tonight, it's my turn to give! My lads, this rounds on-" "AARRGGHHHH!" And that's when one of the boys flips the table and knocks the birthday boy to the ground, punching him as he drops. Some of the gang run off as the one beats down the other, screaming at the top of his lungs. * And things have happened. I'm not going to draw for Initiative until you players tell me what you're doing.

Duke Coleman A beer bottle flies over Duke's head as he is talking to Richard. He gives Ray a pleading look before turning to everyone and asking "do any of you know what the hell is goin' o-" as a second stray bottle flies and knocks him in the head.

The Brute and the (Harrowed) Brute Mister Punchy isn't happy about being pulled off of his job of pounding Birthday Boy into a bloody paste. He snarls at Raymond, looking like he's ready to fight. Wait...something's not right... Before I draw for initiative, Raymond gets a quick attempt for a Notice roll. After the fight starts, anyone can try to roll Notice to see what's up.

Raymond Deville Ray keeps a sharp look on the fellow as he pulls him off, the man looks like he might continue fighting, or worse. Notice 1d6o6; 1d6o6 10, 4 Hopefully I did that right.

Looking at your roll, you Aced your main Notice roll, but forgot your +2 Notice from Cats Eyes. But still, you made your Notice, so Ray gets to spot something. Anyone else who makes a Notice roll during the following combat round can notice the following: What Dead Eyes See What Ray sees is fighter boy's coatsleeve pop a seam. And then another. And he ...grows an inch or so. Something is making him get bigger. And more muscular. And a whole lot madder. * Card Draw for Initiative: Dr. John Beattie: King Clubs The Mad Brute: Queen Spades Raymond Deville: Jack Clubs Duke Coleman: 10 Clubs Louis Broussard: 3 Diamond Harry Allen: 7 Hearts While we wait for the Good Doctor to do his thing, The Mad Brute is going to take a swing at Ray- Fighting Roll = 3 - and whiffs. Still, it would have hurt if he connected. Don't wait for everyone ahead of you to take their turn, make your move! We can always edit things later.

Dr. Beattie blanches at this strange berserker. Still, he's sworn to attempt to help others. And right now, the best way to help is to take the wind out of this punchy fellow's sails. He turned on his debilitating radium ray device to reduce the man's skill in fisticuffs. 6 on the Mad Science roll, lowering the thug's fighting die by one step. Hope that helps a touch.

Strange Science! Dr. Beattie uses his radium ray on the foul fiend! Is it successful? The Brute gets a Spirit roll to oppose the Mad Science attack. Spirit Result = 3, Failed It is! The madman shudders a bit, as his coordination is drained by the powers of Science! Put your trust in it! * The Mad Brute's Fighting is now at d6 Duke! Louis! Harry! Make your moves!

Could you explain to me the dice roller on Orokos? I'm having a bit of difficulty typing out the correct numbers to roll. Edit: Realized I should have posted in OOC thread, sorry about that Unstoppabro fucked around with this message at 23:34 on Nov 19, 2015 |

No problem. For the dice to roll prompt, type in xDyOy. *X is how many dice to roll (for Savage Worlds, most cases you just need one). *Y is what type (4,6,8,etc) *The Oy makes the die roll open, if it rolls the highest result, it'll roll and add to the result. You'll need this because dice can Ace in Savage Worlds. So if you wanted to roll, say Duke's Persuasion, you'd type in 1d8o8. But since you're a Wild Card, you need to roll your Wild Die. You can make a separate roll for it, or you can use a ; to separate rolls. Take this example, I went to Orkros and typed in 1d8o8;1d6o6, and got this result. Go ahead and make some test rolls before you make your Duke post.

Duke Coleman Duke, a man of peace but not one of wits, tries to reason with the brute. Persuasion Result=5 Failed(?) Let's just say the brute wasn't too interested in negotiations.

Unstoppabro, Persuasion really isn't the type of skill to be used against a rampaging brute in the middle of a fight. BUT, since I don't want to waste a player's action, if you want, I can give you a do-over for you turn and suggest you try a Trick. If you pull it off, the Brute will be at -2 to Parry until his next action, and Shaken if you raise.

Clearly, this was no fellow to be trifled with, particularly in a physical combat. Thankfully, what he lacked in brawn he made up for in brains. "Sir," he said, "the police have come! You must flee at once!" 13 on a Smarts trick. I meant to say smarts trick and not taunt in the roll description, as my taunt is only a d6, where my smarts is a d10.

Cheezit! The Fuzz! Mad Brute's Smarts roll: 2 The big bruiser quickly stops his attack on Raymond, and hurriedly looks around for non-existent cops. The big dummy fell for it! He's Shaken and at -2 Parry until his next action! Which will be right after Ray's. Ray has a golden opportunity, can he make the most of it? Raymond Deville Ray slips on his brass knuckles and takes a sucker punch on the mad brute, trying to knock him out without hurting him too bad, while the enraged man was distracted. Fightin 1d8o8; 1d6o6 7, 8 And hopefully I did that right as well. Now for Damage 1d8+1d4 8 nonlethal damage. I think I did that right?
|
# ? Dec 10, 2015 06:44 |

It wouldn't make a difference here, since neither die hit max, but damage can explode too. It should've been 1d8o8+1d4o4. Otherwise you done good. In fact, you might even get another d6 of damage if that was enough to get a raise on his parry (which is now three lower between the lower fighting die and the trick).

# ? Dec 10, 2015 16:48 |

The Brawl Scene Ray coldcocks the meathead right in the chops. That's a good thing. Since the Brute's parry is reduced to 3 (1 for the Reduce Trait, 2 for the Trick), that is indeed a raise. I'll roll the extra d6 for you Extra Damage Die=2, so a total of 10 Damage. Will that be enough to put down the palooka? That hit was so hard his kids should have felt it, but the lug is still standing, and still looking pissed. Good news, you met his Toughness, and in other games, would have Wounded the already Shaken goon. Bad News, Cuddles here has the special ability Hardy, so getting another Shaken result won't wound him. Will post Cuddles' action after work this afternoon.

More Brawling First off, in case anyone didn't hear of it, back in May Clint Black posted a new rule regarding Shaken: quote:At the beginning of their action, a Shaken character makes a Spirit roll to recover. On a failure, he remains Shaken. On a success, the character removes their Shaken condition and may take their action normally. I'll be using that, so anyone, player or NPC, can use that rule. So, let's see how our Brute feels about the new rule: Unshaken with a 4. The big man is pissed off. Pissed at the wiseass who tried to trick him, pissed at the mook who socked him; after whatever happened to him to make him like he is, he's pretty pissed off at everything. Right now, he's going to express his rage by attacking Ray - Fighting: 2 And again barely misses. Perhaps he's too pissed to fight. Still, odds are it's not going to be fun if he connects. * Dicebot hates the Brute. Duke, you're up. Louis and Harry, if you're still around, chime in to play.
