Hacksaw Jim Duggan is like 80s era wrestling, with the million dollar man, Yokozuna, big boss man, jake the snake, sgt slaughter, and other comic book kinda characters before it got all serious or whatever. I guess there's the shockmaster too

poo poo, you just reminded me of WWF WrestleMania: The Arcade Game when you mentioned yokozuna. i guess that was the first time i ever really paid attention to wrestling, and i loved the poo poo out of that game! and yeah, i recognize many of those other names too.

i'm not gonna listen to that theme because i don't wanna be influenced (i can't really remember what the 80s themes were like right now and that's usually beneficial), but ultimate warrior sounds like a real nice addition to my list. consider him added!

Fuckin' Jake the Snake, man. I think I saw him wrestle in Memphis once when I was a kid. My mom thought he was a handsome man and informed me of this once, and while that weirded me out when I was young I find it loving hilarious now that I'm an old fart. Shockmaster was great, though, just because not only did he have the most ridiculous loving costume but his debut was beautiful and full of grace.

There's a lot of guys you could do from old wrestling who had crazy intros. Razor Ramon, Boink the Clown, Hulk Hogan HE NO LONGER EXISTS DO NOT MENTION HIM, Ultimate Warrior.. poo poo, just about any wrestler from the Attitude Era in the mid to late 90's.

Also I had to look up Stardust cause I thought he was Golddust but no he's Golddust's brother? Huh.

It's really impressive how evocative these songs are. Did you spend a lot of time at some point listening to this kind of music from the 80s? Great job making stuff that's funny but also legitimately good to listen to.

Please include the BYOB Chillwave as a hidden track on your next album :byob1:

wow! thanks for that. poo poo, uh, i guess the only things i could add to that pile are A. my real band (http://soundcloud.com/girlswhocare) because this whole thing (all the tv themes and all the other comedy songs I've written) was initially started as a way to hopefully stand out and eventually draw attention to my non-funny band once my full length was done. i'm still going to keep doing the non-funny music too (have shows booked, still need to release that album etc), but sometimes i forget what the hell i'm actually doing.

and B. i never watched any of those tv intros or listened to the theme songs before making them (unless i had already seen them before. in that case, i did not revisit them). it was always pretty random because that made it more fun for me when i fit the footage together with my song at the end. and i'm doing the same thing with the WWE stuff! i just come up with a melody, read the wiki page for some lyric ideas, and then go to work. creates a vibe i wouldn't get otherwise, i think.

thank you for this! and also for that mick foley tweet! you're a very nice person! :) :) :)

hey, buddy! yeah i definitely did. i do love 80s pop, and when i first started composing five years ago, i was listening to all of this modern 80s throwback sort of stuff. i fell in love with synths then (i think it was m83's "kim and jessie" that first caught me), and i realized, using them, it was possible to make music i liked at home without a full band. and thanks about the funny+good comment. that happened a lot with the tv themes when i first started them. i was like "i'm 'wasting' this great melody on a song about 'are you afraid of the dark?' or 'sanford and son'/etc" and i planned to write non-funny songs that used those melodies. but then it suddenly hit me that the cool melody wouldn't exist without the dumb idea that brought it on, so i stopped thinking like that. whatever comes out of my brain gets to stay now. i guess i kinda would like to "legitimize" comedy music in some sense.

i don't actually listen to music right now unless i'm not composing. i had another non song project i had to finish up a couple of months ago, and suddenly i was listening to a bunch of music again and i was really surprised. and then it stopped as soon as i started writing songs again.

and yeah, i can sneak the byob vaporwave onto something! that was fun and i'm glad i did it. was an interesting process.
