I still have no idea how Score Ranking is calculated, but I managed to get my first SR seal out of it because my rank went up enough (and didn't go too far down in the interim) after doing Score Matches, so I guess I did well enough on them or whatever. Promptly spent that seal on a promo SR from the sticker shop, but I've got enough N seals to idolize another SR when I get the G to do so on top of the 20 I just spent on China Dress Maki.
