MFL has a setting where you play all the other teams every week, is that it? Like if you'd have beaten 7 other teams that's 7 VP or whatever?

kinda but no, the one I have been a proponent of is 1 VP awarded for the top 6 teams each week where if you are a top half score and get matched against another top half score 5 times you don't just get pounded in the rear end and end up being 3-10 like two years ago where i was like #5 in PF through week like 10 and was 3-7 or whatever

but i guess that's a similar (if more complicated) way to accomplish it

Without a doubt I would have had a better record last year if we did VP, but to me part of the draw of fantasy is mirroring the real NFL as much as possible. You play your schedule, sometimes it's a cupcake schedule, sometimes you hit a hot team at the wrong time. It's kind of bullshit but also kind of the allure.

That's just my opinion and if you ask me about some other similar part of fantasy I may have a hypocritical opinion.

Only thing I would actually change about our rules/structure is replacing DE with EDGE so that OLBs like Shaq Barrett and Von Miller are lumped with DEs. It makes way more sense if they're in the conversation of who to start against DEs than MLBs. Last I checked though MFL doesn't actually have an EDGE designation so its moot for now.

Yeah MFL has no conception of a position like that. We could possibly cobble one together if we were willing to compile our own list of players who qualify, since you can manually update player positions, but that's a hellish maintenance problem and I'm sure not volunteering to do it.

I find different fantasy formats to be fun, I'm not like married to one in particular. I could totally play dynasty best ball, or dynasty play-everyone, or dynasty VPs or whatever. To me the problem with those formats would just be that owners in this league haven't built their teams for them, so a transition is sure to favor some rosters and disfavor other rosters. I don't have a good sense of how much that would factor, specifically for VPs.

I dont know what it does, but it exists.

best ball sure, but there's no building your team any differently for VP, it's just insurance against getting ratfucked by your schedule.

I agree with that google doc in there. Von Miller, TJ Watt, Bud Dupree, Bradley Chubb, Shaq Barrett... those are all 100% DE's in my opinion that are listed as LB's.

But this is a next year thing anyway. Not changing during the year.

Leperflesh
May 17, 2007

Interesting list. It's longer than I expected. And I'd probably want it to add, rather than replace, those positions (so a guy listed as LB that they say is a DE should be LB + DE, not just DE). And I'd want to know who is making those position decisions and on what criteria.

But I'm open to it for a future season.

Lol at giving some random website my login credentials for MFL for them to store in some unknown undocumented way, though. I'd rather do it manually.

Spermy Smurf
Jul 2, 2004
I wouldn't want them to be dual threats. Increases their value for no reason. I cant remember the last time TJ Watt lined up as a linebacker with his hands on his knees. Always in a 3 point stance. Same for Von Miller and the others I listed.

They are DE's everywhere but MFL (prob on depth charts?) and I dont know why.

Its the reason some guys have contract disputes with their teams about their positions.

Leperflesh
May 17, 2007

Is that true of everyone on that list, or just the handful you know about?

This is what MFL does to get player positions:

quote:

Player Positions & Position Changes
We strongly recommend against using the site’s player positions for your league’s official positions. However, if you still prefer to use the site for your league’s official positions, you should be aware of the following:

For a complete, current listing of all players and their official position in the system, see our Player Database Listing.

Although we strive to have the correct position for all players, it’s not uncommon for players to change positions from season to season or even during the season. We use the Depth Charts at FantasySharks.com as our official source for determining player positions on MyFantasyLeague.com. We compare our data with their depth charts in late August or early September and update our master player listings to match the information at Rotoworld.com. Any changes made to player positions at this time will be recorded in our Commissioner News section of the web site. We generally do not make player position changes during the season. For example, there is a lot of movement of players from week to week between the Cornerback and Safety position, and between Defensive End and Defensive Tackle, so we don’t make those types of minor changes to our master player list during the season.

Superman Don't Need No Seat Belt
On the IDP side, MFL turns on one guy @idpsharks to designate positions, and he’s absolutely horrible at it. Bases quite a few decisions on how many shares of that player he has in his big money leagues.

See Clowney being designated as DE even though he plays for the same coach and same scheme he did in Houston and was designated as LB.

And technically, these are COVID related since that is what cancelled pre-season and caused everyone to go from 0-100 :)

Leperflesh
May 17, 2007

Right yeah as things stand right now, it's 3 regular IR slots (as we had last season) and then the 4th and 5th IR slots available are for players who opted out of the season due to covid (they're categorized as (H)oldouts on MFL), and players who are out due to covid per the league policy (they're categorized as (C)ovid on MFL).

If you look at rosters you can see my Concord Concordes have Damien Williams on IR as a Holdout, and Lego Maniacs have Ryquell Armstead on IR as a Covid, so those two players aren't counting towards the normal 3 IR slot limit. The only other one I see in the league is CJ Mosely on the Whalers IR.

This weekend's carnage is going to fill a lot of IR slots in the league so we should all be on the same page for the rule. I didn't add anything to our league rules since it's temporary but that was probably a mistake, I can add a new "2020 special rules" section or something.

In this case Alfalfa you were in the clear because you had an empty roster slot, $3 of cap space, and two of the dudes you put on IR had $1 salaries, so there's no issue of unfair advantage or anything. Same deal as Tyler's fifty cent cap bust last week, a little shuffling solves it, no need for a penalty.
