Sliders always seemed rather mean spirited when they got rid of people. Oh, Sabrina Lloyd wants a real career? Well now her character is lobotomized in a rape camp. They don't get to bury Arturo and I believe Jerry O'Connell got some bizarre erased from existence end to his character.

Another thread reminded me of how Dollhouse got renewed even though it was a garbage show, which caused Fox to cancel Terminator: SCC. Supposedly Fox pitted both shows against each other because they wanted to cut one (due to both having low ratings) and Dollhouse won because Whedon cut the budget.

Pretty much every show that goes beyond five seasons. TV shows should only be allowed 5 seasons, total. 100 episodes. It would force some shows to stop with all the filler.

Plus, honestly, is there any show out there that got objectively better past its 5th season? I'm sure there are one or two, but those would be serious outliers.

Always Sunny has had some really strong episodes past season 5.

I think both of those shows had legitimately really good first seasons, but after that they had a massive decline.

Earth Final Conflict was weird because it seems like they were constantly completely retooling it everything every season.

I stopped watching CI after a while but it seemed like his character (D'Onofrio) was slowly going through a meltdown and the actor himself seemed to physically support such a storyline. What was the deal with that? Did the actor also have some serious poo poo going on? That or he takes method acting to a whole new level.

He had health problems which was why they did the split character thing in the first place. Then he gained a bunch of weight for a movie part that ended up not happening. BUT D'Onofrio is also known for his extreme method acting, for example in Men in Black he wore braces on his legs in order to make walking more awkward.

They really hosed the show up when they decided that nobody could ever change the status quo. So you have stuff like Eric and Donna not going to college or get married, instead everybody just keeps doing the same thing.

Why did Fez stick around anyway? Wasn't he supposed to be an exchange student?

He was supposed to go back to his home country after they graduated but wanted to stay so he married Eric's sister, which caused Red to have a heart attack, which is why Eric didn't go to college.

Yeah they really tried to make that story work. Then the actor was like "this poo poo has run its course" and left anyway.

I think they had him join the peace corp and move to Africa.

Then they had him break up with Donna like two episodes after he left through a letter. Also for some reason despite Eric being gone and Hyde moving out everyone still hung out at the Foreman house.

The big problem with the Futurama movies is that CC said they were each going to be split up into four episodes. So instead of actually producing movies they just made four episodes that were loosely related.

Or the How I Met Your Mother method, which is have the actress seated at a table at all times.

Sometimes it can really backfire, like when Katy Sagal got pregnant and they wrote it into Married With Children. She then had a fairly late miscarriage and they were stuck trying to figure out what to do. (They decided to write the pregnancy out of the show as a dream sequence.)

The Cleveland show.

The Cleveland Show was in an odd position because Fox wanted a Family Guy spin off and despite the fact that nobody actually liked him Cleveland was the only option.

Prison Break was/is a never-dying zombie show. They break out of prison in the 21st episode. It continues to air for another 3 seasons for 81 episodes total. Don't worry though, the name still works because characters keep getting locked in prison and need to be broken out. And now, despite the fact that nobody wants it, it's going to get rebooted! Even after they killed one of the main characters in the series finale (spoilers!). Luckily, the show brought so many dead characters back to life during its original run, it would be more surprising if the guy was actually dead.

Prison Break had a goofy moment partway through the first season where they had gotten to where they had already finished filming and would originally be the season finale. Except they got good ratings and Fox ordered more episodes, so even though they were actually escaping they had to stop and go back to prison. The weather had also completely changed so outside shots no longer matched up.

House became kind of pointless as a show when they wanted to have their cake and eat it too by constantly shaking up the status quo but then quickly returning to it.
