I get that he has a huge media presence, I think the club sold it wrong when they mentioned that stuff about the leadership group thinking that "well its the finals so it's okay" and I get there should be disappointment, but all this talk about "well they should have dropped him!" is just total bullshit. I actually get the logic about not wanting to punish the whole team in a final. It's about the wording of the public response from the club and some of he media. The thing that bugs me is all of the apologist/defensive language surrounding it. It should be 'he hosed up, there are no excuses, this kind of behaviour is not tolerated at this club and he has a lot of making up to do". They've been very soft on him. Even earlier tonight the pre-match included comments about how tough he's had it in the last week. Come the gently caress on.

I think the whole footballers as role models thing is stupid but it reveals the basic dichotomy at work with this kind of thing. It's very easy to be rah rah community values family club when it's round four, and it's not one of your premier players, and let's face it with less on the line he would have been having a week or two off. The club took the most self serving response available - and that's their prerogative, but they can't avoid the scrutiny that comes with it. The flip side to this is, Hodge would literally be a millionaire, how dumb do you have to be to not spend the twenty bucks on a loving Uber?
